    Oatmeal and latte
    Melencia J.

Stopped in for a coffee and oatmeal after an appointment down the street. Very chill vibes with inspirational music playing softly enough to read without distraction. The barista was very welcoming and even suggested a drink. My seasonal brown sugar latte was deliciously sweet. The oatmeal was the right amount of sweet and savory for breakfast. I will definitely return.

Oatmeal is hard and dry. Used to be great. I hope they teach the employees how to make it.

Sitting along busy Central Avenue, it's actually pretty easy to pass right by if you aren't looking for it. From the outside, it looks like what it is -- an old Augusta bungalow that found a second life as a neighborhood coffeehouse. Walk inside, though, and something happens. Everything slows down. The rooms are small. The furniture doesn't necessarily match. The chairs look like thousands of people have already found their favorite position in them. There's a porch, little tables tucked into different spaces, and none of it feels staged or designed to manufacture some trendy "coffeehouse aesthetic." In fact, I noticed something while sitting here: I don't see electrical outlets conveniently positioned at every table. I don't see a sea of laptops. Instead, I hear locals talking about doctor appointments, seeing the grandkids this weekend, and how ridiculously hot Augusta has been. People are simply here. I came in expecting to grab a coffee and leave. I have places to go and things to do today. But I sat down. Then I started looking around. Then I realized I didn't really want to leave. At some point they had probably been calling my drink for several minutes and I hadn't even noticed. And then I ordered a second coffee. That might be the best review I can give Buona Caffe. The coffee itself is absolutely on point. The staff knows what they're serving, makes thoughtful recommendations and genuinely seems to care about getting it right. But what makes this place special is everything surrounding the cup. It almost feels like they don't completely realize what they have here -- or maybe they do and simply have no desire to make it anything more than what it already is. As this part of Augusta continues to grow, with new homes and businesses coming into the area, I hope places like Buona Caffe remain exactly as they are. Sometimes you need a place between where you've been and wherever you have to go next. Somewhere neutral where you can sit down, let a little time pass, decompress and breathe before heading back out onto Central Avenue. Buona Caffe is that place.

You drive by it a few times and think about…read morestopping in, you mention its name to others and they don't know what you're talking about, and then you finally visit. Such was the case with this coffee shop. The location is the first selling point. Right on the corner of 8th and Greene Street. You might not notice it except for in the evening. The large windows in the front allow the light from inside to spill out. During the day, you get the opposite. The sun gives this place such a warm glow. I already love 8th Street because it is unique with its presence of pine trees (all the way to the riverfront), but is also home to some amazing other businesses. Walking in, you are greeted by plenty of seating selection and smiling team members. The coffee bar is straight ahead with the options. I have to give props to the design team as they did an amazing job with the overall theme, the rustic industrial feel. Again, the contrast of the dark wood and white walls with the sunlight is perfect. They will let you know upfront that they are the fruit of a collaborative effort by United Methodist Churches in the area. The primary goal is to provide a coffee shop where college students can come to study, fellowship, and grow. I mention this because I also want to add that, based on my observation, this was the only religious reference present. So know that there aren't various sayings on the walls that might offend or disturb the atmosphere. Also, because it falls under the churches, it is a nonprofit. This means payment is suggested, they can't charge per se. So have an idea of what you think a latte or hot cup of coffee is worth to you. I went with a nitro cold brew coffee and was told their cold brew and all of their beans come from Stone Roastery (in North Augusta). It is good to hear them supporting local and not trying to produce something they may not be ready for just yet. There is free WiFi and soft acoustic music playing and the invitation to come and setup to work anytime (without them knowing the company I work for). I look forward to returning soon. Stop by, if your schedule allows. Currently they are open Monday-Wednesday, 11 am-3 pm. They hope to expand hours soon.

I got the TCB delight iced with whole milk and the hash brown focaccia. Both were around $8 which may seem like a lot, but I say you get your moneys worth. The TCB delight was so flavorful and sweet enough where it's not too sweet. The hash brown focaccia... I have no words. There's breakfast sausage, hashbrown, eggs, cheese... breakfast loaf!! It can feed 2 people. It was so cheesy, a little salty, but perfect breakfast in a loaf of focaccia. The service was nice too! It did get busy around 10am, so it may be harder to find seating inside. It also does get loud and I did see some families there with their kids which is completely fine. If you want quiet, I'd say go earlier in the day when they open. Overall, great food and drinks, amazing service, and definitely recommend!!

Line was out the door which I already expected. I got inside, ordered, waited patiently. The big guy that took my order was super nice. Then proceeded to wait another 10 min for sugar....i still did not have my croissant in hand. So boom, I understand being busy. I understand maybe even losing track of time/orders etc. what I don't understand is the lack of professionalism when dealing with customers that are standing right in your line of sight. She wasn't overly rude, more like nice nasty, condescending. In all I waited INSIDE for half an hour. 5 min in line, an additional 5-8 for my coffee and the rest of the time was waiting on sugar and a croissant. I'm proud of myself for not letting my nerves and the situation get the best of me. I stayed, but there was a point where I almost threw my coffee in the trash and left. Not sure why it took so long just to get sugar. Would have been nice to drink my coffee while it was hot versus lukewarm.

Yelp nudged us toward New Moon Cafe, and while the signage from the street is minimal enough that we almost walked past it, we eventually found our way inside and were glad we did. At 12:30 on a Saturday the timing worked in our favor. We stepped right up to the counter with no queue at all, placed our order, and settled in. By the time our food arrived about fifteen minutes later, the line had grown to the point where people were waiting nearly that long just to order, which gave the whole place that lively, slightly chaotic weekend energy without ever feeling rushed. Mrs. K chose the smoked salmon bagel, which came out panini pressed, a small twist on a classic that she enjoyed. I am still keeping things keto, so the chef's salad with blue cheese was exactly what I needed, a generous portion that felt balanced and satisfying without pushing me off track. They offer plenty of coffee drinks and smoothie combinations, but we kept things simple and were perfectly happy with our choices. There is outdoor seating if that is your preference, and the whole experience had that relaxed, local charm that makes Augusta lunches feel unhurried even when the dining room is filling up around you. I was shocked by how something so simple was so delicious. I ordered a side of bacon--seemed to be more like the consistency of microwave bacon but I was just grateful to have a protein option outside of eggs. I also ordered a decaf iced caramel latte with coconut milk. Their regular caffeinated iced lattes are made with their cold brew. If you are someone without food allergies, their pastry case looked AMAZING. Highly recommend for breakfast, brunch or lunch!

Lots of seating options and we opted for the comfy little couch and chair in the back corner, which was great to just have coffee, a quick sandwich, and chat. My friend got the Good Tidings (think all the Thanksgiving flavors in one sandwich) special and I had serious jealousy over her food because I just got a simple breakfast sandwich and made the mistake of opting for sourdough instead of the amazing ciabatta it was supposed to come on.
