Root was one of my husband's finds and must-try spots during our first trip to Newport. We grabbed a late lunch at Root on a Wednesday. I had an East Bowl and a Recess drink. Very good. I felt satiated at the end of the meal.

This place sticks true to their ~roots~ in that everything is super fresh! I got their matcha pineapple sunrise bowl and after talking with the nice staff I learned everything is fresh fruit, no sorbet ingredients used to create the bases like at other places. I told her how I was craving pineapple and she ended up adding some as a topping for me!!! I've also had their grain bowls before as well as their avocado toast and it's unreal. Price is what you would expect, $11-20 per meal item after tip. The portions are huge and everything is fresh so you get what you're paying for. Location is along the classic Broadway strip, lots of stores to jump around. Entrance is handicap accessible, leads you straight to the order counter where there's menus with large print and the staff is helpful. There are a variety of coffee drinks, teas (including matcha) and smoothies available. There's ample seating, including window seating to enjoy people watching. Could be a good place to bring your laptop and get some work done. Taylor swift heavy playlist which I'm a fan of.

Came here for a quick breakfast meal. Restaurant is very small but has a decent amount of seating. It's run by what looks like a family that was very friendly and warm. We got the avocado and pesto toast. The avocado toast was great, very fresh spread and well flavored on a multigrain bread. The pesto toast was good too, but the pesto was a bit too tangy I think.

The best vegan food cafe in Newport, RI. Started off my day with the Frozen Cocoa: Blended bananas, avocado, almond milk, dates, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberries, banana, cocoa nibs, coconut and my own idea, a shot of almond butter for extra protein. Omg, yummers! Delicious!

Stopped by Root for breakfast. We got breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Everything was great. We ate inside the restaurant, which is very small, but nice. Root is a great place to stop by for a quick meal and coffee! The servers were very nice too.

Glow bowl was fantastic. My favorite part was the avocado herb dressing. It was very uniquely smooth and satisfying. The ingredients all tasted fresh. You get a choice of quinoa or brown rice. I do wish there was a little bit more grains, as I wasn't quite full afterwards. Acai bowl was even better! It was extremely smooth, and not too sweet. Really really well done. Orange Ya Glad: These juices are also fantastic. I could chug one in seconds, they're so good. Really flavorful. In summary, I'm very satisfied with the freshness of their ingredients and with their prices. The prices are quite fair compared to other breakfast/brunch places. I really love the concept of this cafe, and the interior is well decorated too! The staff are incredibly friendly. Great experience. Would definitely come back.

The Quick: Loving this spot for healthy and delicious options. I love that the menu has plenty of sweet options and plenty of savory. Acai bowls were incredible, and then there's the avocado toast which we were so impressed with. It was very reasonably priced for what they give you and such an easy meal. This shop has convinced me that the acai bowl is a must have. My boyfriend and I stopped in before our mansion tour in Newport RI. What a cute little spot. The inside is small and definitely decorated like an instagram spot. I got the acai bowl. The bowl was perfectly blended into a smooth thick consistency. Very important for the spoon-ability of the dish. The bowl had great banana flavor. The toppings added great texture to the dish. It was a light and refreshing breakfast on a very hot summer day. My bf had the coconut BLT. This was an interesting one. The flavors surprisingly worked. Is it really a BLT...? No not really, but an interesting sandwich. I think if they could, the coconut should be bigger pieces instead of the bits. Very hard to eat. Great cute spot to hang out with friends and eat great vegan things :)

I've always been a person who loves vegetables, but as I've gotten older, I've wanted them more and more frequently. I'm definitely not scared of kale, and I love the opportunity to substitute beans and rice or other legumes like lentils instead of meat options. Because of this, we were motivated to find some vegetarian/vegan options and just happened upon Root. When we arrived, we were surprised at how many people were there. Seating is limited, but the place was packed. We sat awhile and looked at the menu and then decided to both get grain bowls and a fresh juice. I ordered the Asian bowl with brown rice and hubby ordered the Greek bowl with brown rice as well and for our fresh juice we ordered the second on the menu. When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully and it was packed with flavorful items. The hummus on hubby's bowl was delicious as well as the vegan yogurt sauce. My bowl had edamame and ginger which was awesome but the best part was a giant pile of kimchi which I really enjoyed. The juice was good as well, similar to what I make at home. Prices are high but what you get is a good product, well-plated, from friendly people, and high-quality ingredients. Downsides are lack of parking on the street, lack of seating indoors, and no restroom so you're just going to have to hold it if you need to go. The owner is military-friendly, as his daughter is in the Navy and they offer a military discount for active duty families which is awesome. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to try more off of their vegan and vegetarian menu.

Lunch today at Root in Newport, Rhode Island was awesome. It's a small casual place with really friendly service and delicious food. I had the Frozen Cocoa Bowl (blended banana, avocado, almond milk, date, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberry, banana, cacao nibs, coconut). It was absolutely delicious! My sweetie had the AÇAI Bowl (house acai blend topped with strawberry, blueberry, granola, chia, cacao nibs). He said it was good. I would definitely recommend!

This plant based Restraunt right on Broadway with amazing coffee and a wide variety of options for a breakfast is a must try. First off, ownership is so warm and welcoming! They thanked everyone authentically for coming in and making an order on the 5th of July. Their passion and drive to serve the community with their kindness is so clear and heartfelt. The smoothies are terrific and well priced and feel free to add to them with their options. I went with the seaside with some pea protein and my fiancée went with the awakening. Delicious and filling. The best part was that the cold brew coffee was some of the best coffee I've ever had. I'd go there every morning if we spend any more time there in the future. So good we went 3 times in 24 hours! I'm not even vegan! The options are really delicious, filling, and clean. We're from NYC so we can be picky about food but Root didn't disappoint. By far my favorite lil place in all of Newport. Everything I ordered was so fresh and delicious. It was perfect for the hot summer weather. I went back twice the same day! We did the cliff walk early in the day and found this place in the afternoon. We ordered the Avocado Toast (pictured) and the Chai latte iced tea. The gentleman who took our order was really nice and we asked for a cup of ice water (being tired from the walk) and he brought us an extra just to be nice! It is always nice to see good service - I feel like they did a great job making us feel welcome and the avocado toast was delicious! Certainly hit the spot! Was looking for a healthy breakfast spot and this place had a delicious "breakfast egg sandwich" the coconut bacon and faux eggs were hard To tel a difference from the real thing. But did spend 40 bucks on a coffee, two sandwiches and a green juice which is absolutely insane to me! Not the restaurants fault entirely but it would be nice to see a healthier restaurant not break someone's wallet. read more

Nice place, friendly staff. I had the Awakening smoothie which was delicious. Family had avocado toast and the frozen Cocoa bowl. The smoothie was lovely. The bowl was a blended banana bowl and the bananas weren't blended enough - 2 huge chunks. It was just okay. Coffee was not warm enough. But having said that I liked Root. It just doesn't get any better than Root, and there are a lot of reasons why, but primarily, of course, it's the food, which rivals the best vegan anywhere - even NYC and L.A. And truth is, even if you're not vegan - my husband isn't - we enjoyed the freshest, tastiest sandwiches and salads imaginable. The chickpea salad is bursting with flavor; the smoothies were healthful and delicious. Paul, the founder and owner, is a charming, caring guy, and his dishes reflect that. You know what they say...you are what you eat. If you wanna have a healthy meal and a boost in energy, go to this place. We got a green juice and a grain bowl. Green juice was a bit sour; they should use sweet apples instead of green apples. We ordered the Arriba bowl and the Greek which hit the spot. Everything was fresh and the service was fast. Newport lacks many vegan options and while I'm not strict vegan I think it's nice to have the option. I tried the beet juice and the smash white bean toast. The place was quit, dimly lit, which I like! I've been in a juice bender lately and I love trying new combos. The one I tried had beets, pear, cabbage. It was delish! We've been on a WFPB, whole food plant based, journey since early January. Monday will make a month. Surprisingly enough, it hasn't been as hard as anticipated. We are doing well with it all & feel so much better physically speaking. So much so, I'm sticking to it. For breakfast today we went to Root, on lower Broadway, across from Fastnet. It was amazing. The owner's husband was working the register & both he and the staff were very friendly & so accommodating. Don explained we didn't know this place existed, finding it when searching for vegan places in our area. They were just as excited to see us as we were to find them. They offered a taste of their "bacon", the basis of which is coconut flakes, and it blew my mind. So much so, I ordered the BLT sandwich and it was awesome. Don ordered their Arribe Arribe grain bowl which was as fresh as gets, including the avocado. That too was a great meal. My favorite hands down was the BLT. It felt like I was "cheating" since we've been so good sticking to WFPB, even when eating out the few times that we have. From the flavoring, the fresh ingredients, as well as the texture & freshness of the multi grain bread used, it was an epicurean party on the tastebuds! Not only did Root offer to let us taste their "bacon", they let us try a scoop of their chickpea salad, also referred to as the No-Tuna Salad in the WFPB/Vegan world. It blew my mind, seriously the taste and texture was great for chickpea. I would have never guessed it would be so good. I'm looking forward to that sandwich next. And last but not least, the owner's husband brought over a sample tasting of their beet juice concoction. It was a light & refreshing taste. Definitely a heavy beet taste, which I've come to "appreciate" myself lately. I think I would ask for extra lime juice myself should I order one. Give this place a try for sure! They were all so welcoming. It's such a great atmosphere. Vegan or not, plant based or not, this place suits all & I highly recommend a visit. read more

Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! 10/10 across the board - great food, super fast, fresh ingredients and the friendliest service. We each got a bowl and they were delicious! We tried the Arriba, Greek Goddess and Glow Bowl and all were great. We will be back to try a smoothie, oatmeal or toast - we saw others ordering them and they looked great. Our food was ready within minutes and the man who served us was very kind and thanked us for coming and offered us recs for our visit in Newport. Very friendly team. They took orders right up until close. The food was delicious. We ordered one of each bowl, everyone was happy with their meal. We took it out to eat at picnic tables near the water but there is seating there too. The chickpea "tuna" was really great, my 1.5yo really liked it. The Hibiscus tea was really good too. Definitely recommend. The restaurant is Kosher and 100% vegan. read more

Being vegetarians we are always on the lookout for good places and we found this gem of a place. Completely vegan food. Lovely food. Tried the Avacado toast, pesto toast, the ciabatta bread mozzarella sandwich. The hummus sandwich. They had vegan chocolate brownies which was very similar to the shredded coconut sweet of India. Overall great place to have sumptuous vegan meal. read more

We had the best experience this morning at Root! The food was amazing, with fresh ingredients, great portion sizes, and very reasonable prices. The savory bowls and toast are piled high! My friend and I ended up with 2 coffees each; they were that good! The best part of the experience was the proprietor. You can tell how much he loves his business and how much he wants each customer to feel valued. There seemed to be a decent amount of juice spots nearby, but I chose this one bc of it's lists of delicious beverages and the proximity to our B&B. So glad I did. Worth every penny plus. Paul the owner was super nice and accommodating even added watermelon to the juice I ordered, free of charge. It's right in town and has a very chill vibe, you could easily come and get work done here and I don't think the people around would be absurdly loud. Right when you walk in, there is a welcoming feeling. It is very tidy and the staff is friendly. The food is as fresh as anyone could ask for and presented as so. my daughter in law and I stopped in for a coffee break during our afternoon visit to Newport. Ate here on a recent trip to Newport. Beautiful location, the street. We ordered sandwiches. Service was quick. The staff was very polite. The food was delicious. It would've been a perfect experience if a bag of chips or a pickle spear had been included. Just sayin'. Would definitely eat here again. Yum. read more

At the end of the day, it's just a really solid coffee shop and that's exactly why I keep coming back. I can always count on my drink tasting the way I like it. The ratio of espresso, milk, ice and syrup is perfect, which isn't something every coffee shop gets right. I totally understand why some people think it's overhyped, but if you go in expecting a great cup of coffee with fun vibes instead of some life-changing experience, I think you'll really enjoy it. I've also always had a great experience with the employees. Everyone I've interacted with has been friendly, and even when the line is long, they have almost an assembly-line system that keeps things moving really quickly. I've tried the banana pudding, which was delicious, and their chocolate chip cookie was really good too. I love that they're always coming up with fun seasonal drinks and different flavor combinations to keep things interesting.

Came across this place while window shopping on Thanksgiving weekend and I'm so glad I did. It's adorable inside, with a hand painted menu wall and reclaimed wood bars and tables being the focal points. I tried an "East Bowl" which is an asian influenced grain bowl with edamame, kimchi, seaweed, etc. featuring house made ginger miso dressing! Yum! It was chilly so i opted to order a bowl of their soup of the day, a puree of beet, coconut milk, raw cashew, and ginger. Also yum! My boyfriend had a vegan lasagne which was a special as well as a smoothie with coffee, peanut butter, and bananas. I wouldn't have known the lasagne was vegan unless someone told me. It was so good! So excited to have a local place with healthy (and VEGAN!) options! Way to go Root!!! read more

Thankfully, this place caters to both plant eaters and meat eaters... Wife and I had a hospital appointment that ran from morning until afternoon, and we had a short lunch break. We came here since it was really the only location nearby we could walk to and walk back that was not a really horrible pizza... We both got the grass feed beef hamburgers which were pretty good. For the price, I thought they would be a little bigger, but they weren't bad... They were cooked decently, still juicy and not dried out, and the sweet potato fries were outside. The sweet potato fries that came with the burger were the real stars of the meal. They were home cut sweet potatoes that were cut into large wedges and seasoned with light salt and pepper and baked. Not greasy, they were super soft and tasted great with Siracha and Ketchup. I don't think I'll be back again since the burger was one of the non-vegetable options, and I have had better. But it had a lot of those vegetable wraps and everything else... So if a friend takes you here and you aren't into the "Super Green Food" concept, don't be scared, they have real food too...
