Delicious vegan bowls and friendly staff!

I can't gush ENOUGH about this spot. A group of girlfriends and I came visiting from out of town and were looking for a quick bite but enough to hit the spot. Root caught our attention and I'm so so glad it did. I started off with an Iced Matcha Latte with Lavender and added a pump of Vanilla to it and I LVED it. On top of that, I got the Ariba Ariba and all I can say is WOW. It was packed with flavor and everything was so fresh. Every friend of mine loved their food. At the end, I also got another Iced Matcha Latte with Mint and I was shocked by how yummy/ fresh it was. My friend said it reminded her of a mint girls scout cookie and honestly she wasn't wrong at all. If you're in the area, GO HERE. Seriously. The Arriba Arriba bowl was very good. My coworkers and I just had some of their food for lunch and overall it was very good. The bowl needed a bit more dressing, as we got takeout I lost that chance once home already and realized but thats find. The green machine juice is also very good. The food would have received a 4-5 if it weren't for the plastic straw. The bowl & fork seemed to be biodegradable materials, although the plastic straw not so much. SO excited for more vegan options on the island. I visit often because one of my friends lives there and until recently options were very limited. Stopped in here before a show at the theater (which is within walking distance). We both had grain bowls (hers was one with black beans and avacado-the name escapes me) and mine was the goddess. They were both delicious and you can choose quinoa or brown rice, which was a nice option. She had a cookie and I had a cinnamon roll. Those were both great too. I was so happy to find a juice/smoothie place during our stay in Newport that doesn't add sugars and syrups to the drinks. Especially because I drink very similar juices every morning, and would have gone without it for several days otherwise. We came here twice and were not disappointed. I had the green machine one day, and the awakening the next. The green machine tasted almost identical to the juice I make every morning, minus the beets :). I LOVED the awakening. Not sure how this place has as stars many starts as it does. My friend and I went here for a healthy breakfast. We both ordered the avocado toast and a green smoothie. The avo toast was on thin/tasteless wheat bread. We were both expecting nice and think toasted bread slices. The avocado spread was boring too and the tiny little side of veggies tasted a bit old and came on the side which I thought was weird. Not impressed AT ALL. The smoothie was also watery and had no taste at all. We both made the comment that it tasted like OJ more than anything (weird because they claimed water was the base and I didn't see OJ as an Ingredient in this specific smoothie). Totally expect and happy to pay 20$ for healthy and delicious food but there's no way this meal was even close to that. Sorry. Wanted to like it. read more

Small place with friendly service. All vegan, with clearly marked allergens (gluten, nuts) on the menu, as seems to be the trend in plant based eateries. Unfortunately no customer restroom even for those dining in, but the bar across the street they pointed us to was obliging. Food was good and it's nice to have an entirely plant based meal option that doesn't break the bank. If they had a restroom I would def be back to try more options. read more

I really love that Newport has so many healthy eating choices. Root has definitely been one of - if not my favorite visit thus far. A simple, yet diverse menu, a very friendly staff and owner, and of course delicious food. It's worth mentioning the avocado toast in particular; I've paid anywhere from $10-13 in different places around Newport. They weren't bad, but wholly underwhelming for the price. Then you have root - $6.50 and it's the best avocado toast in town, by far. Other places would skimp on the avocado for that price; root does not. The owner is also very friendly and it feels good to support his business. Give this place a try if you haven't yet! read more

The food and the smoothies are really delicious and I would hardly recommend the "Smashed White Bean Toast". The employees are also very friendly and care about your well-beeing.
