Root was one of my husband's finds and must-try spots during our first trip to Newport. We grabbed a late lunch at Root on a Wednesday. I had an East Bowl and a Recess drink. Very good. I felt satiated at the end of the meal.

This place sticks true to their ~roots~ in that everything is super fresh! I got their matcha pineapple sunrise bowl and after talking with the nice staff I learned everything is fresh fruit, no sorbet ingredients used to create the bases like at other places. I told her how I was craving pineapple and she ended up adding some as a topping for me!!! I've also had their grain bowls before as well as their avocado toast and it's unreal. Price is what you would expect, $11-20 per meal item after tip. The portions are huge and everything is fresh so you get what you're paying for. Location is along the classic Broadway strip, lots of stores to jump around. Entrance is handicap accessible, leads you straight to the order counter where there's menus with large print and the staff is helpful. There are a variety of coffee drinks, teas (including matcha) and smoothies available. There's ample seating, including window seating to enjoy people watching. Could be a good place to bring your laptop and get some work done. Taylor swift heavy playlist which I'm a fan of.

Came here for a quick breakfast meal. Restaurant is very small but has a decent amount of seating. It's run by what looks like a family that was very friendly and warm. We got the avocado and pesto toast. The avocado toast was great, very fresh spread and well flavored on a multigrain bread. The pesto toast was good too, but the pesto was a bit too tangy I think.

The best vegan food cafe in Newport, RI. Started off my day with the Frozen Cocoa: Blended bananas, avocado, almond milk, dates, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberries, banana, cocoa nibs, coconut and my own idea, a shot of almond butter for extra protein. Omg, yummers! Delicious!

Glow bowl was fantastic. My favorite part was the avocado herb dressing. It was very uniquely smooth and satisfying. The ingredients all tasted fresh. You get a choice of quinoa or brown rice. I do wish there was a little bit more grains, as I wasn't quite full afterwards. Acai bowl was even better! It was extremely smooth, and not too sweet. Really really well done. Orange Ya Glad: These juices are also fantastic. I could chug one in seconds, they're so good. Really flavorful. In summary, I'm very satisfied with the freshness of their ingredients and with their prices. The prices are quite fair compared to other breakfast/brunch places. I really love the concept of this cafe, and the interior is well decorated too! The staff are incredibly friendly. Great experience. Would definitely come back.

Stopped by Root for breakfast. We got breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Everything was great. We ate inside the restaurant, which is very small, but nice. Root is a great place to stop by for a quick meal and coffee! The servers were very nice too.

The Quick: Loving this spot for healthy and delicious options. I love that the menu has plenty of sweet options and plenty of savory. Acai bowls were incredible, and then there's the avocado toast which we were so impressed with. It was very reasonably priced for what they give you and such an easy meal. This shop has convinced me that the acai bowl is a must have. My boyfriend and I stopped in before our mansion tour in Newport RI. What a cute little spot. The inside is small and definitely decorated like an instagram spot. I got the acai bowl. The bowl was perfectly blended into a smooth thick consistency. Very important for the spoon-ability of the dish. The bowl had great banana flavor. The toppings added great texture to the dish. It was a light and refreshing breakfast on a very hot summer day. My bf had the coconut BLT. This was an interesting one. The flavors surprisingly worked. Is it really a BLT...? No not really, but an interesting sandwich. I think if they could, the coconut should be bigger pieces instead of the bits. Very hard to eat. Great cute spot to hang out with friends and eat great vegan things :)

I've always been a person who loves vegetables, but as I've gotten older, I've wanted them more and more frequently. I'm definitely not scared of kale, and I love the opportunity to substitute beans and rice or other legumes like lentils instead of meat options. Because of this, we were motivated to find some vegetarian/vegan options and just happened upon Root. When we arrived, we were surprised at how many people were there. Seating is limited, but the place was packed. We sat awhile and looked at the menu and then decided to both get grain bowls and a fresh juice. I ordered the Asian bowl with brown rice and hubby ordered the Greek bowl with brown rice as well and for our fresh juice we ordered the second on the menu. When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully and it was packed with flavorful items. The hummus on hubby's bowl was delicious as well as the vegan yogurt sauce. My bowl had edamame and ginger which was awesome but the best part was a giant pile of kimchi which I really enjoyed. The juice was good as well, similar to what I make at home. Prices are high but what you get is a good product, well-plated, from friendly people, and high-quality ingredients. Downsides are lack of parking on the street, lack of seating indoors, and no restroom so you're just going to have to hold it if you need to go. The owner is military-friendly, as his daughter is in the Navy and they offer a military discount for active duty families which is awesome. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to try more off of their vegan and vegetarian menu.

Lunch today at Root in Newport, Rhode Island was awesome. It's a small casual place with really friendly service and delicious food. I had the Frozen Cocoa Bowl (blended banana, avocado, almond milk, date, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberry, banana, cacao nibs, coconut). It was absolutely delicious! My sweetie had the AÇAI Bowl (house acai blend topped with strawberry, blueberry, granola, chia, cacao nibs). He said it was good. I would definitely recommend!

My friend, sister and I took a day trip to Newport, RI, and needed a place to eat since we had to leave at the crack of dawn. Unfortunately, there aren't too many places with vegan food in Newport, which surprised me a bit. Fortunately, I found this place and it's awesome! My sister and I both had the smashed white bean toast, which was piled high, while my friend had the acai bowl, which was huge, and two of us had the salted caramel iced coffee (even my sister who doesn't like coffee [I only like iced] said it was really good). Everything was reasonably priced and delicious. As a bonus, the owner was extremely nice and gave us a quick lay of the land when we asked him about places to go. I wish they had a larger menu for lunch or dinner, but I definitely plan on going back to Newport again and will make a point to stop by Root. read more

We love this place and will definitely be back. My husband and I took a day-trip to Newport, expecting to eat only boring "vegan options" at seafood places. We were so pleasantly surprised to find Root. Great location, inviting interior, yummy food. The owner was there and took the time to chat. We each had a sandwich and a flavored coffee drink, and we shared a cinnamon bun. I can't gush ENOUGH about this spot. A group of girlfriends and I came visiting from out of town and were looking for a quick bite but enough to hit the spot. Root caught our attention and I'm so so glad it did. I started off with an Iced Matcha Latte with Lavender and added a pump of Vanilla to it and I LVED it. On top of that, I got the Ariba Ariba and all I can say is WOW. It was packed with flavor and everything was so fresh. Every friend of mine loved their food. At the end, I also got another Iced Matcha Latte with Mint and I was shocked by how yummy/ fresh it was. My friend said it reminded her of a mint girls scout cookie and honestly she wasn't wrong at all. If you're in the area, GO HERE. Seriously. The Arriba Arriba bowl was very good. My coworkers and I just had some of their food for lunch and overall it was very good. The bowl needed a bit more dressing, as we got takeout I lost that chance once home already and realized but thats find. The green machine juice is also very good. The food would have received a 4-5 if it weren't for the plastic straw. The bowl & fork seemed to be biodegradable materials, although the plastic straw not so much. We were on the beach and did not feel like leaving but were very hungry so we discovered Root on yelp and ordered through doordash. Food arrived fast and was delicious. We tried chickpea sandwich which was so fresh and you could feel the crunchiness of vegetables and Ariba bowl, also super fresh and filling. SO excited for more vegan options on the island. I visit often because one of my friends lives there and until recently options were very limited. Stopped in here before a show at the theater (which is within walking distance). We both had grain bowls (hers was one with black beans and avacado-the name escapes me) and mine was the goddess. They were both delicious and you can choose quinoa or brown rice, which was a nice option. She had a cookie and I had a cinnamon roll. Those were both great too. The staff (owner perhaps?) was super helpful, patient, and checked in to make sure everything was good. The whole menu looked yummy, I can't wait to go back! read more

I was so happy to find a juice/smoothie place during our stay in Newport that doesn't add sugars and syrups to the drinks. Especially because I drink very similar juices every morning, and would have gone without it for several days otherwise. We came here twice and were not disappointed. I had the green machine one day, and the awakening the next. The green machine tasted almost identical to the juice I make every morning, minus the beets :). I LOVED the awakening. Not sure how this place has as stars many starts as it does. My friend and I went here for a healthy breakfast. We both ordered the avocado toast and a green smoothie. The avo toast was on thin/tasteless wheat bread. We were both expecting nice and think toasted bread slices. The avocado spread was boring too and the tiny little side of veggies tasted a bit old and came on the side which I thought was weird. Not impressed AT ALL. The smoothie was also watery and had no taste at all. We both made the comment that it tasted like OJ more than anything (weird because they claimed water was the base and I didn't see OJ as an Ingredient in this specific smoothie). Totally expect and happy to pay 20$ for healthy and delicious food but there's no way this meal was even close to that. Sorry. Wanted to like it. read more

I'm just gunna say WOW. What a wonderful place. First of all they are soooo nice and really pleasant to talk to. They make you feel so welcomed. Also juices are so great, I had green machine and my husband has the one with orange and carrot ... out of this world. Also, when I asked to adjust the food, to make it with no grains no problem. I really love that Newport has so many healthy eating choices. Root has definitely been one of - if not my favorite visit thus far. A simple, yet diverse menu, a very friendly staff and owner, and of course delicious food. It's worth mentioning the avocado toast in particular; I've paid anywhere from $10-13 in different places around Newport. They weren't bad, but wholly underwhelming for the price. Then you have root - $6.50 and it's the best avocado toast in town, by far. Other places would skimp on the avocado for that price; root does not. The owner is also very friendly and it feels good to support his business. Give this place a try if you haven't yet! read more

Newport finally has an outstanding vegan option! The menu is extensive, with great items for breakfast, lunch, and a late afternoon pick me up. The nitro brew lattes are also amazing. Small place with friendly service. All vegan, with clearly marked allergens (gluten, nuts) on the menu, as seems to be the trend in plant based eateries. Unfortunately no customer restroom even for those dining in, but the bar across the street they pointed us to was obliging. Food was good and it's nice to have an entirely plant based meal option that doesn't break the bank. If they had a restroom I would def be back to try more options. read more

Came across this place while window shopping on Thanksgiving weekend and I'm so glad I did. It's adorable inside, with a hand painted menu wall and reclaimed wood bars and tables being the focal points. I tried an "East Bowl" which is an asian influenced grain bowl with edamame, kimchi, seaweed, etc. featuring house made ginger miso dressing! Yum! It was chilly so i opted to order a bowl of their soup of the day, a puree of beet, coconut milk, raw cashew, and ginger. Also yum! My boyfriend had a vegan lasagne which was a special as well as a smoothie with coffee, peanut butter, and bananas. I wouldn't have known the lasagne was vegan unless someone told me. It was so good!
