    Wild Mushroom Puff Pastry
    Alex W.

I came here last weekend with a friend because we were so excited to check out one of OpenTable's most romantic restaurants in the US! Chanterelle did live up to the hype! The interior was extremely well decorated with a nautical/colonial theme; the seats were extremely comfortable; there was an indoor fireplace going in one corner; and the tables were far enough apart that it didn't feel crowded even when other parties were sat next to us. The service was also incredible. Our "captain" was extremely attentive, and we never had to wait long for our dishes or if we needed something. Onto the food! My friend and I split an appetizer of the mushroom vol au vent (puff pastry), and it was _divine_. The ingredients were so fresh, and the pastry itself was warm, flaky, buttery, and crisp. It was everything I wanted flavor wise and pretty filling even when split in half! I then got the duck a l'orange while my friend got the pork croute. I tend to be a fan of more rare cookings of meat, so the medium-rare (slightly more rare than one might think) duck was just about right for me. The orange reduction sauce was great, too, and the crispy skin they also had was perfect! The only suggestion I might make is that the restaurant default to providing steak knives for the duck, as it was a little tough to cut with a normal knife. I also tried the pork en croute, which was another well-balanced and delicious dish, but pretty well marbled. For someone looking for a lighter entree, splitting this one might be the best move as I could see it being a bit rich if eaten in its entirety. Then the desserts! I got the Grand Marnier Souffle, which was very light, fluffy, and wonderful. It was pretty strong on the Grand Marnier, though, so I would say it's not for the faint of heart. My friend's warm pear tart with vegan vanilla ice cream was also great; it can be difficult to poach pears without it getting too soggy, yet Chanterelle pulled it off! All in all, an amazing meal. Will have to be back again and again! PS with Parking -- they give you a pass so you can park in one of the church parking lots just down the street, so make sure to stop into the restaurant on your way to the lot so you can find a spot easily instead of circling the narrow Newport streets!

    Profiteroles with Chocolate Mousse

I recently came here for dinner with my husband. The restaurant was dimly lit, making the experience feel really intimate. For a starter, I had the Mixed Green Salad, and a glass of Pinot Grigio. The salad was the perfect amount and the dressing paired well with the pecans and butternut squash. For my entree, I ordered the Cornish Game Hen Supreme and loved it - the buttery sauce was delicious. The small sides (mashed potatoes and a mixture of sweet potatoes, carrots, and ginger) was a nice bonus. My husband ordered a Special - Swordfish Steak - and he loved it. We finished our dinner with Chocolate Mousse Profiteroles - yum! Throughout our stay, the server was fantastic - knowledgeable and attentive. I highly recommend Chanterelle, and would love to dine here again during my next trip to Newport.

Our meal was divine. Started with the mushroom and asparagus pastry that perfectly showcases the flavors of the vegetables in a light butter sauce. The pork entree was perfectly cooked. For dessert, our poached pear tart was perfectly poached with a gorgeous coconut based vanilla ice cream. Our server was incredibly attentive, and the ambiance was intimate and warm on a freezing day. Would highly recommend to couples looking for a classic French meal in Newport.

Delicious restaurant in Newport! Classy old-style French food with a fun ambiance with jazz music in the background.

Our server Karen was kind and attentive with our large party. The sampler appetizer was splendid. Clams Casino was cooked perfectly, the oysters Rockefeller were delicious, I loved my mushroom 10 out of 10 appetizer. I got the beef Wellington as my entrée without the pate. It's rare to find a restaurant that can offer beef Wellington let alone one that cooked it to absolute perfection. I prefer mine rare plus and the chef nailed it. They do family style sides for a vegetables which was nice. My fiancé got the rack of lamb and they weren't joking. It's a whole rack, he said the flavor was spot on. This is the hidden gem that everyone needs to know about, highly recommend for any date night or if you're just wanting really good quality food.

The prime rib was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beef Wellington was one of the best Beef Wellington I have ever ate. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Never had potatoes prepared that way so it was great trying something new. The frog legs were also cooked great very tender and moist. The breading was light and crisp but could have used some salt. If you want a really nice evening, at a fancy but not too expensive restaurant , this is the place for you. It is very quiet restaurant, great for a romantic meal or taking your parents out to eat. They are also don't seem to be as busy or booked as other restaurants in the area , so it may also be a great last minute decision for a nice night out. Another big plus is that the prices for full bottles is very reasonable!

We looked online for local restaurants to dine at during our stay. Neither my girlfriend or I have ever gone to a French restaurant, so we decided on The Metro Bistrot, due to all the fantastic reviews. I called and spoke with Jay (chef and owner) a week prior to make the reservation. We took an Uber from the hotel, as it's BYOB and brought a couple of bottles of wine. This was a Saturday before a big snow storm the following day. I think due to this, the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. We ended up being seated in the back room all to ourselves. It was a very nice room that had about 4 tables. Stephanie, our server was an absolute delight! Turns out she works for the hotel as well and she's the one I spoke with when we booked the room. She opened our Beaujolais for us and brought some wine glasses. She kept the bottle chilled in the fridge for us. She went over some of the specials being prepared that night and was able to make some nice recommendations. My girlfriend ended up with the special seafood soup special with a lobster stock as a base. I ordered the escargot. Both were absolutely fantastic. She kept our bread basket filled with wonderful fresh warm bread to soak up all the goodness of the soup and escargot. My girlfriend ordered the boar shank and I ordered the stuffed quail that was stuffed with foie gras and pate. The boar meat fell right of the bone and was some of the most tender meat we've ever had. Both dishes were phenomenal. Jay stopped by our table to chat. He's super nice and even took some photos with us. We ordered 3 different kinds of cheeses prior to ordering dessert. All three we ordered were great! Stephanie also brought us a bowl of crackers to go with the cheese. For dessert, my girl had the cheesecake with an oatmeal crust and fresh berries. I'm not usually one for sweets, unless it Crème Brûlée, so I opted for the Boursin stuffed Shrimp, forgetting it wasn't an appetizer, but a main entree. It was out of this world! All the fish Jay brings in are always fresh and NEVER frozen. He even poured me a small glass of some white wine and it went so well with the shrimp. We cannot wait to go back. The prices are very reasonable and the service and food is second to none. Cheers!

One chef and one server. It is byob and the menu isn't extensive. But it is mostly local and classic French. It is accessible and not pretentious. Reservations a must; dressy casual although some gents had on sport coats and ties. No need to valet - plenty of parking 100' from the front door. When making our reservation, we noticed there was an option to mark that we were celebrating an anniversary, and I have to say, they truly acknowledged it in such a thoughtful way. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who immediately wished us a happy anniversary. We were then escorted upstairs to our table, where we were treated to a beautiful view overlooking the harbor. The restaurant itself is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. Our server, Cailin, greeted us promptly, wished us a happy anniversary, and offered us a complimentary champagne toast. While neither of us are big champagne drinkers, it was such a thoughtful gesture that immediately made the evening feel even more special. It's little touches like that that turn a nice dinner into a memorable celebration. Moreover, it was just nice to hear the champagne flutes clink. (Plus the champagne was great!) To drink, we both ordered the dragon fruit margaritas. They were not only delicious but absolutely beautiful, with their vibrant pink color and striking black salt rim. To start, we shared the Caesar salad (without anchovies) and the stuffed artichoke. The Caesar dressing tasted homemade and was packed with flavor. The stuffed artichoke was easily the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and served with a divine green goddess sauce that I could have eaten by the spoonful. My husband also ordered the clam chowder, which he absolutely loved. I don't eat seafood, but I tried a spoonful of the broth and even I thought it was excellent. For our entrées, my husband ordered the pork, and I chose the New York strip steak. Both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I paired my steak with both the horseradish crema and Bowen's steak sauce, while my husband enjoyed the chimichurri with his pork. Every sauce complemented the dishes beautifully. For sides, we ordered the seasonal vegetables, which were perfectly cooked green beans, the four-cheese potatoes au gratin with crumbled bacon, and the truffle mac and cheese. The potatoes were rich and comforting, the green beans provided the perfect balance, and the truffle mac and cheese was absolutely incredible, not to mention a very generous portion. Before our entrées arrived, our table was presented with beautiful steak knives, another thoughtful detail that elevated the experience and made cutting into the steak effortless. By the end of dinner we were completely full, so instead of dessert we each ordered an espresso martini. They were perfectly balanced and the ideal way to end such an incredible meal. From the stunning harbor views and elegant atmosphere to the impeccable service and outstanding food, every part of our evening felt special. We left feeling celebrated, and we're so happy we chose 22 Bowen's for our first wedding anniversary. If you're looking for a restaurant in Newport to celebrate a milestone or simply enjoy an exceptional meal, this is one I wholeheartedly recommend.
