We stayed at the Chanler as a Valentine's getaway and booked Cara for our special dinner and made the reservation 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived, they "lost" our reservation. The young girl couldn't be bothered to do anything about it and we had to leave and find anything that was available at 8pm on a Friday night. This morning at breakfast we learned they could have accommodated us. This idea that "people are doing their best" during Covid is nonsense. People have just found it convenient not to care, to provide poor or no service by using "COVID-19" as the go to excuse for anything. Very disappointing. UPDATE: They're squeezing us in for the smaller 3 course seating this evening. Still disappointing, but at least they tried once someone else found out there was an issue. UPDATE: It is very clear that all of the staff at the resort have worked very hard to overcome the few mistakes that happened early on. It's still sad that we missed the later 7 course seating, but they really went above and beyond to make for an excellent experience. Both the chef and sous-chef visited our table and they included some nice extra touches. A few minor inconveniences were the lack of dark linens. They were able to bring a set of white linens that did not leave lint, but mid service it was replaced with a regular napkin that did leave me covered in white lint after. This is really such a minor thing, but it certainly is an expectation when you're spending in excess of a thousand per person. My wife and I each had a duck course, but at different times. We received different portions of the same dish. Is it because they wanted to give me extra? Did they presume my wife wouldn't want as much? Seems weird that the plating wouldn't be highly precise given the fine dining nature of this restaurant. The effort goes a long way. It's been clearly conveyed that the staff here truly care about our experience and have done all they could to try to compensate for the early inconveniences.

It is really hard to put into words how amazing the 5 course blind tasting was! It's a MUST try to really understand! Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, Pastry Chef Brittany and their team treated us to masterpiece after masterpiece all evening long. This was not dinner...it was an experience to be savored! The service was spot on, the cuisine impeccable, and the atmosphere incredibly beautiful and relaxing. Highly, highly recommend!

    Lovely dining area.

We celebrated our anniversary here and I am SO glad we did. The food was phenomenal and the service was superb. Our server Teddy went above and beyond - he was personable and professional and took care of a few requests that we had. We had an amazing time and we were extremely impressed with the cuisine. I can't wait to go back. This is THE place for a special occasion. It is a gorgeous eleven table restaurant tucked into the Chanler Inn. Our reservation was for 8 pm and it was dark outside so we didn't see the spectacular view other people raved about. Go with the tasting! We debated for at least 15 minutes about whether to do one of the six-course tasting menus or their three-course prix fixe. We finally chose the "Plunge" tasting & OMG it was perfection. Plunge is a little more protein oriented than their other tasting. But, first we had a glass of wine and we were offered either onion bread or Japanese milk bread. Then, each course came out in a well timed cadence. Our favorite course was the duck - it was exquisite with beautiful crispy skin, blackberries, and foie gras. I cannot do it justice on this page. I didn't even take pictures because I was all encompassed with each morsel. Dessert was a deconstructed rhubarb pie on a lovely plate but my husband said he preferred "constructed pie" - fair enough. I had a perfect chocolate soufflé. After dessert, we had orange cello candies and a pretty box of homemade chocolate truffles to bring home. Side note: The waitstaff press linens of vacant tables with an iron. Overall, The kitchen and servers are a well-oiled machine & I love that. We left happy with great memories of our experience. Can't ask for more than that. Some patrons here are Newport preppy casual or they take it up a notch. The kitchen is open and you can see it operating as you walk by.

The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic. Our server was efficient, friendly, and extremely attentive. The food was out of this world! Our meals were perfectly prepared and presented like works of art. Prior to our visit I had made a very specific and challenging request for Chef Jacob Jasinski. He was very gracious about my request and seemed to really enjoy customizing our dining experience. To say that Jacob and his teammates knocked it out of the park would be a huge understatement! Our meals were not only customized as requested there were several unexpected surprises provided that made it even more special. If I had to sum up our entire dining experience in Cara with one word it would be...EXQUISITE!

Our server Karen was kind and attentive with our large party. The sampler appetizer was splendid. Clams Casino was cooked perfectly, the oysters Rockefeller were delicious, I loved my mushroom 10 out of 10 appetizer. I got the beef Wellington as my entrée without the pate. It's rare to find a restaurant that can offer beef Wellington let alone one that cooked it to absolute perfection. I prefer mine rare plus and the chef nailed it. They do family style sides for a vegetables which was nice. My fiancé got the rack of lamb and they weren't joking. It's a whole rack, he said the flavor was spot on. This is the hidden gem that everyone needs to know about, highly recommend for any date night or if you're just wanting really good quality food.

The prime rib was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beef Wellington was one of the best Beef Wellington I have ever ate. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The pastry and pate surrounding it was also cooked to perfection . The red potatoes cooked in chicken broth were also very good. Never had potatoes prepared that way so it was great trying something new. The frog legs were also cooked great very tender and moist. The breading was light and crisp but could have used some salt. If you want a really nice evening, at a fancy but not too expensive restaurant , this is the place for you. It is very quiet restaurant, great for a romantic meal or taking your parents out to eat. They are also don't seem to be as busy or booked as other restaurants in the area , so it may also be a great last minute decision for a nice night out. Another big plus is that the prices for full bottles is very reasonable!

Lovely high ceilings and beautiful tables :) We got dozens of oysters each that comes with hot sauce and mignonette and lemon. There was also wings and beer for happy hour. I had to get the mussels and fries cos I was slightly buzzed. Very balanced broth that came with the mussels and a generous position of a grilled sourdough (?) everything tasted very fresh The wings could be a lot hotter but very crispy outside and super juicy inside - comes with generous portions of carrots and celery Overall, highly recommend this place!!

I had noted it was our anniversary on the reservation but I feel like restaurants seldom take notice. Not only did many of the staff wish us a happy anniversary, our dessert was inscribed and champagne was received. The server, Max, was meticulous with detail and made sure our dining experience was top notch. We started with wine by the glass then switched to a half bottle of wine, which was perfect for dinner. For an entree, I got the Cornish game hen supreme, which I will be thinking about for a long time. It was well seasoned and the mix of accoutrements made the dish. I wish I got more of the butternut squash/carrot purée!! This will definitely not be our last time at Chanterelle!

We enjoyed a 2021 Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir with our dinner. My husband and I shared two appetizers, the beef tartare and the lobster raviolo. Outstanding! The beef tartare was so fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, there were only two pieces for $19. The lobster raviolo was filled with mascarpone and lobster topped with trout row. Decadent. One ravioli priced at $21. I had the Dover soul with almond sauce ($64) and hubby had the roasted duck ($34) for entrees. Both perfect in every way. One minor suggestion is that the Dover didn't need the frisée. It just got in the way. Our friends who recommended Chanterelle suggested that we order the Grand Marnier soufflé when we ordered our dinner because we shouldn't miss out on this dessert and it takes some time to bake the soufflé. Oh my goodness...I have never tasted something so divine, creamy and luscious. Silk on my tongue. The service from Nick and the young lady assisting was spot on. It is an expensive restaurant but I think worth the $$$$ Just be aware of the cost so you're not surprised. I've dined at Alinea in Chicago which is a 3 Michelin star restaurant ranked 9th on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list, and Chanterelle might be my 2nd most favorite restaurant after Alinea. Fine dining at its best!

We looked online for local restaurants to dine at during our stay. Neither my girlfriend or I have ever gone to a French restaurant, so we decided on The Metro Bistrot, due to all the fantastic reviews. I called and spoke with Jay (chef and owner) a week prior to make the reservation. We took an Uber from the hotel, as it's BYOB and brought a couple of bottles of wine. This was a Saturday before a big snow storm the following day. I think due to this, the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. We ended up being seated in the back room all to ourselves. It was a very nice room that had about 4 tables. Stephanie, our server was an absolute delight! Turns out she works for the hotel as well and she's the one I spoke with when we booked the room. She opened our Beaujolais for us and brought some wine glasses. She kept the bottle chilled in the fridge for us. She went over some of the specials being prepared that night and was able to make some nice recommendations. My girlfriend ended up with the special seafood soup special with a lobster stock as a base. I ordered the escargot. Both were absolutely fantastic. She kept our bread basket filled with wonderful fresh warm bread to soak up all the goodness of the soup and escargot. My girlfriend ordered the boar shank and I ordered the stuffed quail that was stuffed with foie gras and pate. The boar meat fell right of the bone and was some of the most tender meat we've ever had. Both dishes were phenomenal. Jay stopped by our table to chat. He's super nice and even took some photos with us. We ordered 3 different kinds of cheeses prior to ordering dessert. All three we ordered were great! Stephanie also brought us a bowl of crackers to go with the cheese. For dessert, my girl had the cheesecake with an oatmeal crust and fresh berries. I'm not usually one for sweets, unless it Crème Brûlée, so I opted for the Boursin stuffed Shrimp, forgetting it wasn't an appetizer, but a main entree. It was out of this world! All the fish Jay brings in are always fresh and NEVER frozen. He even poured me a small glass of some white wine and it went so well with the shrimp. We cannot wait to go back. The prices are very reasonable and the service and food is second to none. Cheers!
