We had a wonderful birthday dinner for my husband this evening. The staff were incredible and the food was outstanding. We split a dozen oysters to start. My husband had the braised short rib and I had the duck - both were fantastic. We split the creme brûlée for dessert.

The food is excellent! Waitress is quite personable and the place is a little bit formal, noise level is low but you don't really need to hush hush to talk. I truly enjoyed the soft shell crab appetizer as well as the duck. They were delicious. Won't mind coming here again when visiting Edgartown

This place is incredible. Let's talk about the decor first. Gorgeous, simple sophistication. The have an outside area that's under a tent but we sat in the dining room right by the fireplace. The bar area is beautiful. I love how they have the star theme throughout but in a very pretty way. The outside is beautiful. They have 5 lawn chairs in the front surrounded by gorgeous hydrangeas and flowers, it's such a heavenly looking spot. The service was superb, superb, superb. Our waitress, Charlotte, was incredible. Very friendly. Genuine smile. I felt like we were in great hands. She was very attentive and detail oriented. The hostesses were very professional and sweet. The food was delicious. I had the lamb and it was so tasty. My husband is a very picky eater and he ate everything on his plate. He had the duck and it looked like it had cooked/grilled bok choy and my husband raved about it! I never thought he would eat, let alone love bok choy. But he loved it. His dish looked incredibly delicious. I had the rhubarb-berry pavlova and it was so good! It was so sweet and it looked so pretty. I loved it. I highly recommend this place. You must come here.

Anniversary dinner, top notch experience in Edgartown. The vibe was intimate and formal, with a cute exterior with hanging lights and a front lawn. The service was attentive and they did a nice candle on our dessert for our anniversary. My husband and I enjoyed the gnocchi and Spanish octopus, both well made, light, and flavorful. We shared the duck entree which was also extremely well made and delicious. Our dessert was the cream brûlée which had the perfect balance of textures, not too sweet. The cocktails were well made and we enjoyed a solid bottle of red during dinner as well. Would absolutely come back, and my husband is definitely a tough critic on French cuisine and loved it!

Excellent food. Our best meal on the island so far (skip Detente). Loved the etuvee lobster entree, which came with lemon pepper pappardelle, but it was very heavy and buttery - could've used a bit less butter. My husband got the surf and turf, which was half the etuvee lobster and a 13 oz ribeye, which he enjoyed (and also came with the pappardelle). For starters, we loved the oysters two ways and the gnocchi with truffle. Both fantastic. The only disappointing item was the dessert. We got a white chocolate pistachio creme brûlée but the top coating was way too hard and thick. I did appreciate they put a candle on it to help celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. I'd recommend indoor dining - the outdoor dining is too hot without the AC and doesn't have as nice of an ambiance. There also appears to be a bar where you can order food as well, which might be a good option if you can't get a reservation. There was nothing available online so I called, and they managed to squeeze us in so also try calling. Also as a heads up, parking is very difficult so plan in advance for that. Luckily we walked from our hotel.

Came in for an 8pm reservation, we were seated right away. The service was impeccable. The food was the best meal we had on the island during this stay! We split the surf and turf as well as a few starters. The rhubarb desert was 100/10! It was my husbands birthday and they came out with a little candle on the dessert, thank you!

My first experience of Martha's Vineyard was at L'etoile! Straight from the airport, my friends took me out and man did they! What a beautiful space. They currently only do outdoor seating, on the lawn and under tents, with heaters. The area was decorated so nicely. The staff was incredible. Friendly, attentive and they caught my name and called me by it all night. IMPRESSIVE!!! Than you MB for making it such a great night. The menu is limited, but I was able to find something that tempted my appetite. We shared a couple of orders of sautéed potato and truffle gnocchi! They were Devine. Man did we love those. I could have had them all night long and been a happy man. For our meals, I had the seared halibut with baby watercress chimichurri. Was not sure exactly what I was going to get, but when it arrived, I was blown away by the presentation and the taste. What a way to start my first MV visit. My friend ordered the short ribs and stopped talking for awhile. They were good. The dessert options are so worth it. You have to try them. The gelato was out of this world. I should have started with that. We made our reservation and they were able to seat us a bit earlier since my flight arrived early. We were able to sit and enjoy each other's company while enjoying the fabulous meal and a nice bottle of wine. What a great place! Thank you for a wonderful evening and I do plan on returning.

    mini cosmo, $16

4 of us had dinner reservations at 6:45 on a Tuesday evening. 3 1/2 stars is more accurate. ATMOSPHERE: Inside is classy, beautifully decorated, several rooms which provide a romantic and intimate feel. We did not sit in the tent section, but could see it was also tastefully done with greenery and lights. BAR: Well made drinks, however, for the price, the volume is lacking. My Tito's cosmo was tasty, but served in a coupe glass and charged $16. For this price, it should have been double the volume and served in an adult sized martini glass, which I could see they stocked at the bar. The modest wine pour of Rombauer Chard was $24, which is silly high. FOOD: After reading all the reviews of the truffle gnocchi, my expectations were set way too high. It was difficult to actually taste any truffle. So disappointing as I love truffle. The spinach salad was excellent, fresh ingredients, generous portion so easy to split. The Lamb Rack Chops were very good. Salted Carmel gelato was good, nothing special, but good. SERVICE: Our server was attentive and friendly, but had a few misses. When the apps arrived, my salad was missing. A second round of drinks were ordered but one of the wines which should have been red was a chard. One other in our party accepted the white, and a correct red was then delivered. It would have been a classy move not to charge for the mistakenly delivered white, but no recognition was made there, and another full charge of $24 was put on the bill as if we had ordered it. Our bill arrived with 2 charges which were not ours, which were then corrected after we pointed them out. Always awkward to have to ask the server to review the bill and ask for corrections. The couple in our party was celebrating an anniversary, so I asked if something special could be put in the gelato. Our server agreed, but when dessert arrived, there was no cookie or cute celebratory candle included. No recognition I had even asked or that it was forgotten. :( This place is pricy, and has some really nice aspects, however, did not meet my expectations and didn't earn 5 stars. 4 stars is on the generous side, but giving 3 seemed too harsh as the atmosphere and some of the food was quite good.

For an occurrence to become an adventure, it is necessary and sufficient for one to recount it, and I implore that your own adventures should take you to L'Etoile. The manicured grass pathway to the elegant Greek Revival mansion in the heart of Edgartown that hosts L'Etoile is flanked on one side by guests, lounging in Adirondack chairs atop manicured grass, sipping drinks in anticipation of their placement by the host at either the small tables on the adjacent lawn or the canopied patio along the side yard. I would suggest you arrive fifteen minutes before your reservation to enjoy a leisurely moment in those chairs and whet your appetite, imbibing one of the specialty cocktails, such as the 'Startini', which are superb. During my pleasant wait, I was brought a perfectly crafted Basil Hayden's Old fashioned and enjoyed possibly my favourite moment of the weekend. Our table was on the front lawn and was well shielded from the passers-by on Water street while retaining the open-air feel of being outdoors on a beautiful summer night. We are our choices, and we chose to precede our entrées with the raw oysters. As a New Englander, I'm typically a purist when it comes to shellfish; light lemon to add zest to the natural sapidity of my favourite appetizer and nothing more. The chef took a bold approach and flavoured the raw oysters with a limoncello and pomegranate mignonette which spectacularly added to the flavour without overwhelming the subtle complexities of fresh shellfish. For my entrée, I elected to try the rib-eye, medium-rare. The steak was cooked to the precise temperature with a flavourful port sauce. Similar to my taste in shellfish, I prefer a fine cut of steak to be sparingly altered, however, I break from this dogma in the case of French cuisine, and I was greatly rewarded for doing so. At the suggestion of our waiter, my girlfriend selected the pan-roasted duck. I've spent considerable time in Beijing, where duck is a delicacy, and the chefs of the east would marvel at the creation being served at L'Etoile. Remarkable skill was shown by preserving the moistness within the lean, sliced breast. The tangerine honey & pickled ginger sauce perfectly enhanced the flavour. The purpose of spending time on Martha's Vineyard is to savour life amidst the natural beauty of the island and create memories with those whose company you cherish. If you embody that outlook, then a centrepiece of your time on the island must include dining at L'Etoile.

Great experience at L'etoile. Upon arrival was lead to the outside tent. It was covered in greens and white lights which had a cozy, elegant vibe. Tables had sufficient space between them and the service was excellent. Food was fantastic. My favorite was the foil gras. It was bursting with flavor and had a nice balance of sweet and salty---- and just melted in your mouth! I would almost give 4.5 stars as it is pricy---- so be aware the bill will add up quickly.
