My wife suggested this place while we were visiting the area. She knows I'm always looking for a good pizza. We got a nice table outside on a beautiful night. She started with a cocktail and me a beer. We split a wedge salad which was fantastic. I make arancini and I'm always looking for inspiration so we ordered that. They had a nice crunch on the outside but the inside was pretty unimpressive. Not much texture. You could barely tell it was rice. I encouraged my wife to get the rib eye steak. It was pricy but I again thought maybe we'd get some inspiration. It was nicely cooked and had good flavor but they ruined it for me with a slick of barbecue sauce on top. I could see putting it on the side but who serves a $32 steak with barbeque sauce pre-applied? My pizza had lots of nice char from their fantastic wood burning oven but I thought the topping flavors were a bit overdone. I should have gone margarita. Our server was fantastic and the atmosphere was wonderful. I thought the food fell a bit short given the prices (the steak and arancini in particular) but we had a nice night out. read more

Come to this restaurant if you are anywhere near Morganton, NC. Scratch made, creative small plates, wood fired pizzas and entrees to die for. We started with the Roasted Cauliflower Hummus with za'atar flatbread and feta. My tastebuds were buzzing with the spice combination. This was my favorite small plate of the night. The Maryland style Crab Cakes Napoleon with a fried green tomato in the middle were delicious! The remorse sauce had a zing! Cornmeal dusted oysters with bacon and pimento grits was too hot for me but my husband said they were crazy good! We eagerly await our Bistecca wood fired pizza. It has wood grilled flank steak, smoked wild mushrooms, red onions, spinach, mozzarella, sea salt and EVOO. Totally worth the wait! We discovered root & vine using Yelp after being in the area to visit a brewery. It was easy to leave the car park and walk to downtown neighborhood to dinner. root & vine has a nice beer list so we could continue our beer adventure. There is a mix of NC beers as well as many others and a variety of styles. They offer wine & cocktails too. To start, we chose the baby arugula salad. We appreciated our server, Stephen, informing us the salad would be made with spring mix instead ya the chef did not feel the arugula was up to his standards for serving. The salad was still tasty. My husband selected the rack of lamb. It was cooked perfectly and had six ample chops. I went for the pork osso bucco. It too was perfectly tender and flavorful. We were both too full to check out the dessert menu. We appreciated the decor and art hanging on the walls added to the atmosphere. Came in today around 2pm. A young blonde girl being a "hostess" (will use that term lightly) running around and not knowing if tables are available , also serving tables in the front, she didn't really speak at all and just wrote down things on the table map at the host stand and ran off, within about minutes a couple in front of me got sat, The i stood about 3 minutes for her return and told her table for 1 anywhere, she didnt say hello or respond at all, she mumbled that she sat the couple infront of me at a servers section and ran off again to serve coffee to someone in the front. A manager walked by saying "someone will be with you" and kept walking. A server walked by on his way to the outside tables asking the same thing but kept walking. Another server came from the back to grab more menus at the host stans and asked if ive been helped, i replied "i dont know everyone keeps Running around." Wow! Great place with diversified indoor and outdoor seating, mask mandatory, and market attached to take something local home. Their cocktails are crafted with real expertise and yet they do not mind customizing their libations to your taste. We had an attentive server who could not have been more perfect. My husband and I split the meatball small plate and the Cuban sandwich. From the crusty bread through the smoky ham and pork to the crisp pickles it was a gastronomic delight! The new ham shank was horrible. Served totally burnt. Cutting it open looking for some reason they would even plate this meal provided no excuse. It was overcooked, over seasoned, covered in sauce in attempt to cover up the grossly burnt and over cooked meat. The chicken was also overcooked and dry. If it is all about the food, this a place you'll want to check out, for sure. However, if the entire dining experience (service, ambiance, and value) has import for you, all that you seek will not be here, it certainly wasn't for us. When we arrived, shortly before 6 PM, the place was already somewhat busy - the majority of the bar area was filled, as much dining as drinking, and the dining area to the right of entrance (where we were directed), was 1/4 full, and filling. We were shown to a minuscule table for 2 - about half again as big as a chess board - after having to move things around over and over again as the meal progressed, I've vowed not to accept such a table again, I'll leave! Though we were seated promptly, everything after that was slow, slower, and knee jerk reaction. Took 10 minutes to get our drinks, another 10 minutes to have our orders taken (our waiter and another on the floor were having a long discussion with a "manager"? while we sat and waited - these things should be dealt with before you open the doors - we're here to dine, not watch a staff meeting! We ordered Grilled Octopus (a new menu item), PEI Mussels (prepared differently from the previous menu item ), Duck Breast (also new to the menu), and Pan Seared Scallops - and we ask that a selected glass of red wine and a refill of my cocktail be served with the entrees. The apps were out quickly relatively to how things had progressed to that point, and both were excellent. The Octopus was a large tentacle, a bit charred at the "small" end, rather chewy, but with a very nice taste. It was served with a small amount of capers, fingerling potatoes, crumbled chorizo, and a smoked paprika, parsley oil. Great flavor combinations, but for our tastes, it needed salt, but none was on the table - took another 10 minutes to secure a small bowl, as the dish grew cold. Put salt and pepper on the table, as long as I'm paying, I'll determine how much of those seasonings are right for me! The PEI Mussels were served in an amazing broth composed of anchor beer, onions, garlic, herbs, bell peppers, and sliced baguette. The portion was huge, the mussels were tender, and the overall dish was as good as I've tasted, and we order this particular dish a lot! Dipping the sliced baguette in the broth was sublime! The entrees rolled out in a timely fashioned, and our wine order and cocktail refill we were promised took 15 minutes, and the entrees were beyond winding down! The Duck Breast was tasty, but more than a little chewy, would not order again! The Scallop entree was exceptional - they were well sized, perfectly seared with a nice outside crust, and served on an amazing cauliflower puree that exploded with flavor - but at $30 were a bit over priced for 5 scallops. As I said, the food here, on the whole, is incredibly well done, with a great combination of herbs and spices, freshness, creativity - BUT, the overall experience was not one we'd repeat. The slow, unfocused service (wherever it originated), the miserable table setup, and the overall loudness of the place trumped the quality of the food - a shame, but dining is about more than just consuming food! This place is amazing. My dad and I got "stuck" in Morganton for a week while paperwork was being finalized on a purchase we were making. Needless to say living out of a hotel for a week unexpected in the middle of COVID was not ideal, but these guys being open almost every day was a godsend. The service was friendly. We went different days and ended up trying every service, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and all had awesome meals. From the incredibly satisfying brownie desserts to an awesome Thai clam dish, everything was solid. Oh and they had great bourbon old fashioned style drink special (can't remember the name!). We were sat on the outdoor patio under the trees overlooking the festival right at opening and it filled up quickly. My better half started with The Dark and Stormy, Goslings Black Seal Rum, Barritts Ginger Beer, and a lime. Since I was having Iceberg Wedge ( apple wood smoked bacon, red onion, tomatoes and creamy blue cheese dressing and adding fried oysters) I picked the Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefe. We started with the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, cucumbers , kalamata olives, feta, tomatoes on a chickpea flatbread. We live in Mississippi and try yo get to the parkway every summer And this is one of the reason we drive almost 600 miles. The service is wonderful eating outside is such a treat. The Bloody Mary's are so awesome with lots of wonderful decorating it perfectly cooked pork belly green olive filled with pimento cheese, great spicy pickle And the drink is spiced just right we always get the pimento cheese bacon burger which is so yummy and messy and on the perfect bun with homemade chips. If you haven't been there you are missing a treasure Now if I could just get them to open a second restaurant in Memphis . Been going there for years and plan to keep going every year. Stopped in for lunch while on our way to Asheville. This place is really cute inside and out and I love that they sell local art. I tried the hot chicken sammy with the house malt chips. The sandwhich was really good - chicken crispy on the outside while juicy in the center. When it's cool enough, dine outside on the shaded patio. We got a lunchtime seat next to the sidewalk fountain, and it was the perfect atmosphere for a great meal stop on our way to the mountains for the weekend. You've gotta try the Cheerwine BBQ burger with handcut fries. The tender beef blend is cooked medium to perfection, and the sauce is fire! There's a little heat, but not too much. I did leave off the jalapeños. My wife got the fried chicken tacos. She loved the hearty and sturdy flour tortillas, the crispy chicken and the fresh toppings.
