The Grind, the Grind, the Grind. I see that customer service is not your strong suit; perhaps management, as well. I did sign up to wait awhile for my food, being told there was only one person preparing the food. But how did you take money from your last 4 customers and then forget that they ordered food??? I did hear a lot of chatter & socializing behind the counter while we sat there, completely ignored, our little order numbers standing tall on our tables. After waiting an hour & a half, I received my simple salad, which was missing the walnuts & Gorgonzola. No apology or compensation, like it was our fault for trusting the staff. The coffee was okay. Hard to mess up coffee. The food was awful. Both the veggie omelette and the breakfast burrito were inedible. Weird taste of some kind. Bad peppers and onions, maybe? Definitely didn't like pulling a long blond hair off of the toast, either. We dumped $25 worth of breakfast, minus two bites, in the garbage and left. read more

I've enjoyed good coffee and some decent food here over the years when I've been in town. They have seating downstairs and more upstairs. It's situated on a historic street on the edge of downtown Morganton. You can enter from the front or back, where the parking lot is. (Watch your step if you enter from the back!) Seemed like a very busy place so we opted to try. Took forever to get to the counter to order due to a long line and the order taker was also the barista. The food was prepared in an acceptable time and looked quite appealing. The turkey sandwich was done nicely and had great flavor the Rueben however was terrible as the corned beef was inedible. It could not be chewed as it was very tough. Most of the first Hal wound up in my napkin, but the second half was so full of gristle it was impossible to bite. I took it to the cook to let him know. This place is just ok. My experience was at breakfast on a Saturday. The ordering process is...unique. There were 3 people working that morning. You walk in and speak with the cashier person. First come first served, but you can only see the menu once you get to the cashier. This process makes you wait a bit longer than you'd expect. Now when you order, you get your drinks on the other side of the cooking area, instead of right there at the cash register, but you get your table number. Seems like that could be optimized, just all in one area. Next your order goes to the cook who has a micro flat top. My black stone at home is twice the size of what they are working with. While your food is being prepared, you self service your found table by getting your own silverware, napkins, salt, pepper, and sauces, then claiming your table with your number. Someone does bring your food. The food was good, I got two eggs, liver mush, and biscuit. The liver mush could have been cooked more to a crisp. Others at our table got a veggie omelet which was packed with veggies and someone got a quiche, which I heard was tasty. Want a refill on your drink? Repeat the cashier process. Then, at the end you bus your own tables. There was a floating employee that brought us a to-go box upon request. For the most part there is no service. In terms of atmosphere, the music tracks of that Saturday morning were a bit too emo for me. If I were 20 years younger maybe I'd like this place more. Parking is on the street. read more

One of the WORST coffees I've ever had. I asked for a peppermint mocha. I watched the girl make it and she ran out of mocha. She didn't get more, she just shrugged her shoulders and gave it to me anyway. So I essentially got a peppermint latte. She was extremely unsanitary. They handle your money and then walk right over to make your drink. I tried to talk to someone but they were too busy. I left and threw my $6 drink in the trash. Also my kids got a cookie and it was SIX DOLLARS. A CHOCOLATE COOKIE. This place was once good. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Unfortunately, Starbucks is still the best option in Morganton. read more

I came up here with my father and we were just wondering around and found this place and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. Along with the chai tea that we both got my father ordered the quiche and I ordered the breakfast burrito. My fathers first response when he tried the quiche was this is the best quiche I've ever had and it just disappeared. We went here because it was Number 1 rated on Yelp. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! Our coffee was the worst cup we've had on our 5 day trip. It was undrinkable! This place is amazing! We're on the last leg of our road trip from Bend, Oregon to Raleigh and we're craving a breakfast cafe. Turned into Morgantown as it looked big enough to have a good breakfast. This was better than we hoped. Great coffee, delicious southern food. Charming Southern hospitality. I had my fist taste of liver mush, my husband had biscuits and gravy which were the best he ever had. I had the quiche which was light and delicate. I wish we could have tried everything on the menu. Came in for breakfast with my elderly father. Only one worker was wearing a mask and half the customers who came in after us were unmasked. Questioned their policy and was told they only wear masks when delivering food to customers but not while preparing.
