On our first visit to Morganton we were looking for a lunch place as it was early afternoon. We wanted something quick and easy so that's why Blackbox Sandwiches caught our attention. It's in a tiny strip center on the way out of town heading to I-40 and from the outside seems like a very generic shop. There was no one else there, as we were late in the lunch window. We were greeted instantly, and from there every interaction with the team was very engaging. Even the people preparing the food interacted with us to ask how things were as our meal went along. Very personable. Let's get to the food. I opted for their special of the day, which was The Shawarma pita sandwich. I'm including a picture of its description and of the sandwich itself. My wife ordered the Kaleidoscope, which is a vegetarian sandwich, but she went with their option to have it served as a salad, which meant it was in a bowl and on a bed of seasonal greens and topped with lemony garbanzos. The Kaleidoscope also boasts kale, red wine shrooms, crunchy house pickle, caramelized onions, and an herb green sauce. It was a flavor explosion. Everything blending unbelievably well. The dish showed creativity not only in the mix of ingredients, but the presentation as well. I'm sure it would've been a great sandwich, but it was killer as a salad. My special of the day, The Shawarma Greek pita was wonderful. Everything I love about Greek food and spices all neatly put together in a tasty pita sandwich. I opted for it to be "herby"rather than spicy and it was a beautiful blend of flavors. Blackbox was surprising for its food quality and tremendous customer service in a non-descript setting with paper plates and cans of soda. We would absolutely recommend it. There are some tables where you can eat on site or it appears many people takeout. This is a gem. Try it! read more

Wow, wow, wow. These sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had. We ordered the midnight snack and the kaleidoscope+pastrami. Not only were they large, but everything was fresh, and crazy delicious. I could drink the herby sauce on the midnight snack. The owner was so kind, grabbed a high chair for our toddler, and gave us a cookie to try. It was the best chocolate chip I've ever had. They swap out baked goods and I'm always envious when I see the daily special on instagram and I'm too far away to snag it. We can't wait to go back! read more

Finally tried this new sandwich shop in town, and I was impressed. I got the midnight stack, which was absolutely amazing. Quality ingredients- loved the pickles and roasted peppers on the sandwich. The sandwich was thick and jam packed with ingredients. The prices are a little high for sandwiches, but I will say that I'll gladly pay for quality ingredients and a sandwich that's packed with ingredients and will fill me up! I can't wait to come back and try something else on the menu. Service was excellent- these people are super friendly and checked to make sure everything was good multiple times.
