Well stocked with local color and their precious and priceless persiflage, Pat's Snack Bar offers a pretty tasty lunch served up by an outstanding staff. I don't know when I have been in a restaurant with a more friendly, hard working, cheerful staff. They appear to truly enjoy the opportunity to serve their customers. The burger tasted good, though the patty could have been a tick bigger. The hot dog all the way was good as well but could have used a bit more chili. Crinkle fries were cooked just right. In the back is a large selection of homemade goodies that looked delicious. The "plate" was a piece of wax paper, and only about a third of the lights were turned on. I wonder if Pat's is on some kind of mission to save the environment... The dim lighting made it difficult to see the nostalgic artifacts adorning the walls and shelves. Honestly, the food was probably just shy of 3.5 stars. But this is one of those cases where the exceptional service and excellent price make a big difference. So Pat's a solid 4 stars for me. read more

First, I like consistency and Pat's Snack Bar relievers in every way. The food is fresh and made to order. To boot, the three folks who take your order also cook your food. May seem like a minor deal but consider the order is never messed up because they cook it! The menu isn't robust, about a dozen items or so, but it is good. I stick with the cheeseburger or hot dog on most days and again, it doesn't disappoint. Both are cooked perfectly and to my liking. Don't come here expecting out of this world decor. Frankly you will feel like you are stepping back in time. But, I'm okay with that. Only adds to the nostalgia. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars I really do love this place. The only knock I have on this place is their drinks. I'm very much an avid drinker when I eat. I love a good Diet Coke with my hotdog and cheeseburger. While you can get one, you will pay for each drink. No free refills. That adds up on my bill as I can easily drink 3-5 during a sitting. I know, I have a problem. read more

I eat here 2-3 times a week sometimes !! Cheese burger, fries and drink for $6!! It's one of his old school places with the counter where people take your order and make your food is freaking awesome! And in the back of the place they have a lady that makes delightful cakes and pastries and cookies :) on Fridays she makes a coconut cake that always sells out .. so get there early!! Wednesdays is caramel cake day which is so delicious and my favorite!! You should definitely make this one of your stops if you're in town they do close however at 2:30 PM so eat lunch early!! Stopped here while in Morganton this week on a research project because I had seen them on a PBS show on places in NC and it looked intriguing. Good sandwiches and fries for lunch, from very helpful and friendly servers. The gem is the bakery in the rear of the store, which had homemade cookies, cakes and pies. Terrific coconut cake. Wouldn't drive two hours for another lunch; but, if you're there, it's a good choice as a change of pace and a slice of americana. read more

Love this place. Been going here since I was a kid. They will make you anything. I love the chicken salad sandwich and the fries rock. Cherry soda and you're in love. I was passing through so I thought I'll check it out. Well, to begin with, it didn't bother me so much that the place was kinda shabby and dust riddin' with a lot of junky relics. I kinda like that kinda thing sometimes. It didn't bother me that my burger was served on a paper towel instead of a plate but when the lady that served it (I assume Pat) put her fingers all over my french fries and picked up a few that were falling out of the tray and put them back in it was kind of a turnoff. I was tempted to say "do you always handle the customer's food like this?" Anyway, I didn't want to be a problem so I didn't say anything. As I ate I noticed she had her hands all over the bar and was taking money from customers as well. Not very sanitary when you are handling a customer's food but haven't gotten sick yet. The burger was good although the bun far exceeded the boundaries of the thin meat patty. The price was reasonable but don't think I'll be back. read more

Overall, a tasty breakfast sandwich. Stopped in this morning for a breakfast to go order. Service was friendly and prompt and the livermush and egg sandwich was pretty good. I prefer livermush cooked on the flat top rather than deep fried so it makes it much better than some other fast food places. Good prices, your money is well spent. Great Burgers or Breakfast. If you are looking for a local Grill this is it! They may have the best sandwiches in the downtown area. They offer grilled cheese, grilled hotdogs and heck they even have Livermush! Local favorite for many years, belly up the the Pats Snackbar and have yourself some home town food. read more

A great hole-in-the-wall. I had the egg salad sandwich and the pimento sandwich. My group also had the hot dog "all the way", which included slaw and chili I think, and the chicken salad. Three of us just ate at Pat's Snack Bar in Morganton, NC, this afternoon. We were absolutely astonished at the paltry amount of food for the inordinate, ridiculously high price that we paid. Literally, we paid $15.70 total (not including the tip) for 3 TINY cheeseburgers ($2.80 each), 1 incredibly small serving of fries ($1.50), and two bottles of water ($1.60 each). Our total bill (in retrospect) should have only been $12.70 plus tax, but somehow it ended up being $15.70. I think we must have been charged for the three cups of ice that we were offered by the waiter/cook. By the way, Pat's does NOT take credit cards; this is a cash only establishment. The hamburger patties did not even come close to covering the buns, and the hamburger patties were nearly paper thin. In all fairness, the cheeseburgers and the fries were at least OK, but the cheeseburgers and fries were far from being anything special even if they had cost half the price that we actually paid. We were VERY dissatisfied with the VERY SMALL, VERY INADEQUATE, STINGY PORTIONS. We overpaid for what we got, and we left very hungry. Pat's Snack Bar cannot go out of business too quickly. We will NEVER eat there again. I cannot possibly recommend eating at this RIP-OFF of a lunch hole unless you want to pay way, way, way too much for little kid-sized portions of below average, just OK food. By the way, I considered rating Pat's Snack Bar as 2 stars so that anyone reading this review would not immediately dismiss this review as some unwarranted, nasty, mean rave. Even so, considering the rip-off and disappointment of this afternoon's lunch, I cannot force myself to rate this any higher than 1 star. I didn't have the option of choosing no stars. read more
