So SLOW. Poor priorities when it comes to time management and customer service. Waited in front of line for 10 minutes while a girl took a to go order via phone, on and off hold multiple times asking questions to her manager. Multiple other people chatting, working behind counter that could've greeted us while we waited for this "to go order" to take forever. Ended up leaving and certainly wouldn't come back. Many other places nearby that run more efficiently. read more

I googled best breakfast places in Morganton and this restaurant came up with pretty good reviews. We arrived at just 11 AM so we could not get breakfast. We love coffee, so decided to stay for lunch anyway. We ordered the lunch special (Chicken salad wrap which came with a coffee and side) and the Rueben which came with a side. I ordered a large coffee also. The one side I ordered was fresh fruit for $1.50 extra. The other side ordered was potato chips. The waitress was pouring our coffee and ran out of coffee from the pump. She handed me my medium coffee and although the large coffee was about 1/4 full, she did not give me the large coffee, but told me it would be 5-7 minutes to brew fresh coffee. This was not a problem, but she could have given me the 1/4 cup so I had some coffee to drink with my sandwich. The coffee was delivered after I finished my sandwich. I asked for a refund on the coffee and she told me they could not give me one, so I had to take the coffee home. The fresh fruit that I paid extra for came out in a sample cup (like they give you samples in at grocery stores!) Honestly, there was maybe a 2 Tbsp of fruit in this cup! The Rueben had 2 very thin slices of dried out pastrami on it. I will not be back! read more

Rude! Snide! Terrible service. This was my first visit and my last. I ordered a Reuben and a dbl esspresso. I was given a number on a tall post. They brought my sandwich but no drink. When I asked about the drink I was told that since they opened 13 years ago it has been the same that you have to go to the back of the counter and pick it up. This was my first time here....why would they give me a number for the table and not explain I needed to pick up the drink?! As I said....my last time eating here. The group I was with was also horrified at this woman's responses to me. They are local to Morganton and said they would not be back either. Food is very basic. What a great treat to find (thanks Yelp app) while on a road trip back home to Nashville, TN. A short drive from the Highway but well worth it for healthy non fast food option. It's not always easy to eat healthy on the road, but The Grind Café allowed us to do that as well as take a quick break from being cooped up in a car for 7+ hours. Great vibe and options (yay for organic eggs) - a gem in this quaint downtown district. If I were a local, I'd definitely be back. read more

Food is good, staff is friendly, and facilities are nice - however the owner/manager (apparently) decided to visit and basically shut down production at lunchtime on a Saturday while he pontificated. Cook and waitress were completely distracted having to listen to him. Waited 45 minutes to get a meal... and only after they finished his to-go order. Before he leaves, he puts up a step ladder to turn the ceiling fans on high. It then rained dust bunnies for 10 minutes. It's probably a fine place if they can refrain from unstructured staff meetings while customers are waiting... and maybe dust the overhead ceiling fans regularly. read more

Excellent little cafe in the downtown area of Morganton! I only had a special coffee drink-almond milk mocha that was delicious. The food smells amazing but we were on our way to lunch elsewhere so didn't eat there. I like the mocha flavor, subtle coffee and rich chocolate notes. The price seems fair compared to Starbucks. The free wifi and ambiance are great. I met some friendly people too. Parking is in the lot behind the cafe or on the street. read more

So the foOd is great and the customer service was pretty stellar. MY reason for the score is mainly due to the time it took to get my breakfast ( I was the first customer, and only customer there my entire experience), and their pastry's, and sweets were not out yet. I was there round 25 minutes from order to finish, and watched them continue to open the restaurant. I guess my point is, running a business myself, if there had been more people there at posted business hours time, it would have been a mess. Not to mention, I was getting breakfast for a coworkers birthday and would have loved to have taken her some of the sweets you offer daily. Bummer. read more

Great little shop. I often meet people here for breakfast. They offer delicious food and great coffee! I really appreciate that they use real mugs and not disposable paper when you dine in. My favorite is usually the dark roast coffee! Pay for refill up front if plan to stay a while. read more

Walking into the Grind, you seem to be transported back in time. To a prepandemic time. No masks and not a care in the world. Not even a sign. It's sad to see a local business putting on such a fake face. They claim to care about the community, while Morganton COVID-19 deaths climb higher everyday. Dozens of maskless customers and employees standing around in an enclosed area just isn't safe. Times like these are true a testimony to which local businesses actually care about the community. I grew up in a small town and the atmosphere is typically to keep it friendly. This place have most of what you want in a GRIND cafe, no fresh fruit, unhelpful and disrespectful staff, pastries that look like they were made centuries ago with layers of dust on top. My biggest complaint is that you have to have a$4 minimum to receive the password for internet. Although my espresso was only $2.79(roughly) I always gave the girls 1.5 or over $4 with tip. Everything was OK until the 12th or 15th time, an employee walks up to me and tells the that it needs to be $4 before tip in order to use the WIFI internet....Its not like they could have told me that any other time while I was there...... In all honestt, it was a nice setup, but in all fairness, there was nothing else nice about it. read more

When I first visited the Grind Cafe I thought I'd found heaven. One of the best sandwiches I'd had in a long time. After frequenting the place I realized the service is sub-par for a coffee shop. As a former coffee shop employee I am really disappointed every time I go in there with how just uninterested the employees are in being friendly to customers or trying to get them interested in being there. Its a shame too since they are one of the few places that has nightly events which could be great. read more

Great local coffee spot with breakfast and pastries on site. The have a good selection of beans and flavorings for those who prefer that sort of thing. The Quiche is phenomenal and everything is prepared fresh. You may wait a little longer than starbucks but it is well worth it. I haven't tried their lunch yet but they have local ingredients and boars head brand meat. Swing in for a morning stop and you'll dig it for sure. read more

The best part of Grind Cafe is creative names of coffee flavors such as "Tulip Bud Latte" and "Cherry Blossom Latte." I also think this place is definitely a deaf friendly cafe. My only reservation about going five stars is the sophistication of some of the baristas and the lack of alternative brewing methods. Been here for two meals and both have been good. Importantly the coffee is good. We liked breakfast better than lunch. Breakfast portions seemed more generous. Biscuits and gravy is memorable. Reuben and the Burke Turkey are good but the Lunch portions were a bit skimpy comparatively and the kids PB&J was pretty disappointing. We will keep this as a go-to place. This is a really nice coffee shop in downtown Morganton! The interior is pretty, cozy, and has a lot of mismatched seating. The breakfast selections are pretty impressive --I enjoyed the quiche with a cup of hot chocolate. A lot of their ingredients are sourced locally, which I appreciate. Best coffee shop around! I got a lavender latte on my last visit and it was wonderful. I really appreciate that they use real mugs, and also have no problem with me bringing my own to-go cup. I do wish they had real cups for cold beverages when dining in. I have tried a couple of their menu items and was pleasantly surprised each time. My husband and I stopped for lunch at this cafe in Morganton. I was quite surprised to note the level of sophistication for a coffee shop in a small town. I was also pleased and to discover that they serve beer and wine. I ordered a salad, which contained baby greens, dried cranberries, pecans and gorgonzola cheese. It came with a vinagrette, which was not too sour the way some vinagrettes are. My husband ordered a BLT on wheat with fruit and had no complaints. The staff was friendly, upbeat and polished.
