First the good. The service was fabulous! The food well -very disappointing. I had the avocado toast the flavor was good but everything was cold. The avocado was over ripe and brown in spots. The toast, the eggs, the hash browns, all cold. The americano was even just warm! My husband had the breakfast plate eggs, bacon, and sourdough toast ALL COLD. His regular brew coffee was hot. We put this on our list as the "place to go" for breakfast on our visit to Hickory. It is easy enough to find and seems like it had plenty of tables. We were seated but then it took a long time (maybe 5 minutes) for a server to come over. We ordered coffee and waters and then when the server came back we ordered our dishes. I wanted the Killer bisquits and sausage gravy and my wife ordered overnight oats. Just so you know they have a daily flavor choice and it took a few minutes for the server to find out what that day's flavor was. We waited for around 10 minutes talking and someone brought our dishes. My wife got her's fine and mine was something completely different. I told the person who brought it what I ordered and she said, yes that was not it. The server showed up again and said she was sorry about the "mix-up"...I don't know I am pretty clear when I order and something that has "killer and gravy" shouldn't be unclear. After more time passed the server came around again and said she would check to see what was going on....then came around again to say "it's still not here?" No, it was not there or I would be eating it. After I want to say around 15 minutes passed I finally got the food and had to chow it down because we needed to be someplace before the rain was going to start. But then the server came over and said to my wife (not me), I took the dish off you didn't order. Really, you took the dish off I dish I didn't order and charged me FULL price for the order I did and then no further discount....how nice of you. There was no manager to be seen or I would have said something then, but then my wife said don't, so I didn't and now this is the review that the Frothy Rooster gets because the server needed a clue and then did not do anything except make a good breakfast bad. Food was delicious, very trendy nice breakfast place in Hickory. My peanut butter chocolate overnight oats was so decadent. My husband really enjoyed his killer sausage and biscuit dish. Would have given it five stars but the service from our waitress was just so bad. She took forever to bring us coffee, we can forgive that no problem, but she wasn't really listening when my husband was ordering and brought him the wrong dish. Then she told him "Well, it's because we have two dishes called killer" , he made it very clear though that he wanted the sausage biscuit one, not the pancake one. We understand that too, but the problem was that we had to wait a long long time for them to bring the right dish to him. Then at the end she brought over the Bill and made a weird point that she didn't charge us for the wrong dish... Wow really? thank you for not charging us for the wrong dish! I think maybe she's new to waitressing. Anyway, it put a damper on our experience there. But weirdly, I would still recommend this place to people, just based on the food. read more

Great, clean food and super accommodating staff! My daughter's potatoes were a little too spicy, and they had no problem swapping them out. We left feeling refreshed--not overly full. The almond milk lattes were delicious, the kids loved their pancakes and bacon, and my avocado toast was perfectly done. Definitely a spot we'll come back to! What a cute breakfast/brunch spot right in downtown hickory. Service was excellent, my Bloody Mary with bacon was yummy and the eggs Benedict was perfection. Think this place is fairly new but we're so glad we happened upon it. I don't have a single complaint about this place. I really enjoyed my eggs Benedict and the egg was cooked perfectly. Love when the yolk breaks and coats all the stuff with buttery, yolky goodness. Makes my mouth water just thinking of it. I have lived above this establishment for 3 years. I have tried it multiple times to give it a fair shake. Coffee is burnt and over extracted but is good if you drown out that taste in sugar. The avocado toast is one slice and priced at $15. You could make better avocado toast at home for that price point. The chicken sammy is $17. You could get a better chicken sandwich anywhere really for that price point. Really you could make all of this at home, better, and for cheaper. read more

We both asked for eggs over medium and got eggs with broken and hard yolks. The breakfast potatoes were not freshly made, that I could tell. Probably frozen Ore-Idas. The avocado "toast" was a bagel. Not great. Loved the London Fog tea. Everything was presented well, but the quality was so-so. Me and my family loved this place because they allow dogs and then when we got our food they had this heavenly syrup. The potatoes were a bit on the spicy side but not too bad. The wait wasn't to long and the waiter was super kind and kept coming back and petting our dog. read more

The short stacks taste like Christmas if it was a food and I wish I lived closer to treat myself to them at least once every few months. Food was amazing, the service left a big to be desired. They were not exceptionally busy but it took a long time for everything, from drinks and ordering to getting our check. What was meant to be a quick brunch was probably close to an hour and a half total for two people. The prices felt high for the quality and especially for the experience. read more

This place is super cute, really well put together. Our food was pretty good not amazing, but good. What really hurts them is the service. We watched several other groups come in, wait to be acknowledged by the wait staff and then leave after 10-15 minutes of being ignored. We decided to wait it out because we weren't in a hurry and had made the decision we wanted to wait it out and try the food. It wasn't even busy on a Sunday just before 12. There were 5 to 6 tables in use that should have been the hint we needed that the service wasn't stellar. Once we were seated and had orders we were not checked on until the food came out. They dropped the food and ran. Members of our group had ordered biscuits on the side as they looked good at other tables. We waited 15 minutes and were done with our food before they came back and we had a chance to ask for butter/jelly for the biscuits. We got frozen butter pats and orange marmalade as that was all they had. With a stone cold biscuit and frozen butter we just left it all on the table. I want this palace to be better. It's in a great location, it's a nicely done place, they just need some coaching on service. read more

We waited a very long time before being greeted nor acknowledged and were only seated after asking a waitress if we needed to wait or seat ourselves. It was not busy; no one else was waiting to be seated and about half the tables were taken. Our waitress was ok at best--she was not friendly and none of the other staff we interacted with appeared happy whatsoever. Really wanted to try this place. Sad to say we won't be going back. The restaurant was clean and cute. Breakfast menu was sparse. On the breakfast plate the menu said hash, it wasn't "hash" it was hash browns, I asked for the biscuit to be grilled, waitress looked like I was crazy. About 20 minutes later said the chef needed clarification on the biscuit. I said slice it and put it on the grill. When breakfast came the biscuit was sliced but no butter so a couple grill marks. Asked for butter and waited forever, waitress finally came back with frozen butter patties. (Frozen butter, cold biscuit, not idea) coffee was so strong I barely drank a cup of it. When I put cash for the check and needed change she said sorry I didn't have coins in the register. She shorted me, the customer, instead of giving me the extra dollar sand taking the 30 cent shortage, felt like she was stealing from me. Didn't make say anything I just gave less of a tip.
