I live in town and have visited The Grind Cafe a few times. It's in walking distance to my house and I find myself really wanting to like it here. But each and every time I experience lousy service. But the coffee is quite good. I love Cafe au laits, simply coffee with steamed milk. Every time I order this, the staff is confused and makes it incorrectly. Not only do they stink at it but they don't know what to charge for it. I ended up getting into an argument with the girl taking my order over the prices. I was charged over $4.00 for a large cafe au lait. She told me it was for the milk.. which is dumb because they offer free milk on the counter. I went in today to get a regular drip coffee (how can you screw that up, right?) and decided to order a breakfast burrito and a plain bagel. I waited 20 minutes for the food, only to get sabotaged by another customer, who took my food. I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to make me a new order. The burrito was nothing special, with canned salsa on the side. When they presented me with the order, I found they forgot my bagel, which took another 10 min to get. No apologies given and the rude customer who took my good, cracked " I liked eating your breakfast, it was really good" as I was leaving. I made the suggestion to the staff of asking for the customer's name when taking the order to help alleviate that problem. They guy just stared at me with a blank expression. If they just sold their coffee by the pound, I would buy it so I could make it at home to reduce having to interact with the staff here. Overall, the place has potential but it's way too expensive for what it is. I would love another choice in the downtown area. That's the con of living in a small town.. I have to drive to Starbucks. At least there the service and product is consistent. read more

Best coffee in town hands down and I live in California so I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I also tried one of there wraps and it was just amazing! If I ever find myself in this neck of the woods again Ill be stopping by The Grind Cafe for sure! Loved it!!! Its a Must try. read more

Better Americano than Starbucks, & I love Starbucks. Some reviewers have complained about the service. Yes it can at times be rather slow, but since I'm never in a hurry when I come here, it doesn't bother me that much. They have some really good sandwiches here too. read more

I am giving this review of 2 stars only because the coffee was good. As far as the staff, cleanliness (especially in these times), customer service - these will not encourage me to return. First, cleanliness - after witnessing several people using the touchpad and no wiping/hand santizer/etc. in between, nobody using face masks anywhere..I used cash and left the change. At the accessory station (ie, napkins/sugar/etc.) everything was there for the grabbing..no cleaning, etc. When my coffee was ready, I wenWhen t to pick up one cup and the top had not been put on securely. It popped off, coffee went all over the counter and floor, my hand burned. I called over the young gentleman for help, he simply thru a dishrag on the counter mess..didn't ask if I was okay, didn't check the floor mess, didn't offer to refill. When the young lady who poured the original cup came over to deliver the next order..and saw the mess..I stated she needed to insure the tops where on tight because mine was not and thus created the mess. No response. I left with my coffee and burned hand..never to return. Thankfully Starbucks will be moving in soon! read more

I am from out of town, and am a fellow barista. Not sure if it was just the machines, but my friends and I stopped by for an afternoon pick me up, and every single one of our drinks were scorched. I had to let my cappuccino sit for 10 minutes, and it still singed my tongue. When it was finally cool enough to drink, the espresso tasted burnt and bitter. As disappointing as it was, I did appreciate the pleasant atmosphere and the friendly staff. Perhaps it was just an off day. read more

Had a breakfast burrito for the first time at your establishment this morning. Loved sitting outside on the sidewalk tables. But what I REALLY loved was the burrito! It probably was the best thing I've ever eaten for breakfast!! It tasted so fresh I thought you went out the backdoor and got the ingredients fresh from the farm! My girlfriend got the egg rounds and they looked spectacular! I'm getting those next time. And maybe a burrito to go! read more

Nice place to sit awhile and have a tasty sandwich or special coffee. We stop in a few times a year and the food is always well balanced in flavors. Nice little place to go with a friend. They always seem to be out of regular bagels when I'm there, but they will go and get them for you.

It's unfortunate that I have to down vote this place. This is my favorite sandwich shop in town, but, as others have said, the service leaves something to he desired. I typically place to-go orders, and doing so over the phone is seldom a good experience. I called in an order today, had to take over 5 minutes just to ensure my meal was taken down correctly, only to find out when I got there that they did not put my order through to the cooks. Also, when I first started eating here I was told that as long as they had the ingredients I could order any of their past lunch specials even if they weren't on the menu. A few visits later they refused to do this for me regardless of ingredient availability. I'm sad to say that service (and, in some cases, competence) in this restaurant seems worse with every visit. That being said, this place is easily a 4 or 5 star restaurant for a small town if not for the counter staff. The cooks seem talented and personable enough. The employees at the counter could take a lesson from them. Also, they only serve food until 3pm which is highly disappointing for those of us that work until 5; should we care to get something tasty on the way home. read more

I am a Morganton native and visit family up there quite a bit and I'm always looking for a good coffee shop! I went to Grind Cafe twice last week and I was kind of disappointed. The first time I ordered an iced coffee and the guy obviously didn't know how to make it (he poured hot coffee over ice so the coffee was weak). The second time the lady that worked there actually used coffee that was brewed to serve cold and it was much better...but it is expensive! It was $3.44 for coffee there that was a Starbuck's grande in size. I can get a Venti iced coffee at SBX for $2.85! And their pastries were expensive - $2.95 for a brownie, over $3 for a lemon square...$7.95 for a chicken wrap. I like this shop, but they won't make it in Morganton if they don't adjust their prices. read more

It is one of my favorite places to eat in Morganton. Yesterday was Vegetarian day special order.. falafel sandwich.. It was very very good. I was thrilled to see the menu that had falafel !! As usual I love the place and food is usually very good and enjoyable. PLEASE get the barista real training! The machine is beautiful but is probably being abused by employees that don't know what the hell they are doing. I literally watched the girl pull a shot and dump the used "pucket" into a tupperware, stir it, and scoop it back into the portafilter, to then pull more shots. WTF?!?! Then I watched her line up more portafilters with the "pre" ground espresso (hopefully espresso) from the effin tupperware!! My drink was HORRIBLE!!! It was incredibly bitter, and burnt tasting. I pretty much knew it was going to be bad but they charged over $6 for a Vanilla Latte. I could only take two sips before trashing it. What a waste! Do you all need someone to come in and train? There are people that do that. Can someone please help them? The Grind is such a cute place, I hate to watch them waste such a beautiful opportunity for great coffee, GREAT money and loyal customers! read more
