Where to start, the naan was burned literally to a crisp. The chicken Tikka masala was flavorless but so hot you couldn't have tasted it anyway. This is such a hidden gem in Temple, TX. Really good traditional Indian food. Also, if you check in on yelp you can get 10% off your order. I've had the paneer tikka masala, butter chicken, goat biryani and of course their naan bread which is all good. This particular visit I decided to do something different. I ordered the masala dosa which is a large Indian pancake with a curried potatoe mixture inside. It comes with 3 different sauces that are all good. I ate the whole thing and was full for hours. I also got the Indian lemonade which was refreshing. My friend got the spiced Indian tea and I was immediately jealous because it looks like a chai tea. Anyways, can't go wrong here! read more

I am East Indian so I have quite a high standard for Indian restaurants. I can say that without a doubt, this is very legitimate food. First of all, don't be scared of it being too spicy - they will ask you what spice level you want so you can be cautious at first, if desired. I've had the chicken 65, the cauliflower 65, the chicken korma, the chicken curry, the butter chicken and the garlic naan. If you're new to Indian food, start with something a little more mild like butter chicken but if you want more depth of flavor, go with the chicken curry or biryiani (goat served on weekends only). The naan is pretty large, so it could serve 2 people unless you're really hungry. Food is served with basmati rice, but upgrade to the lemon rice or biryani, for a small price. At the end of the meal, I recommend ordering Chai. This isn't ordinary bagged tea. This is fresh chai, spiced with notes of fresh cardamom and vanilla. It's made in-house and so good. read more

Pulled off the freeway for some Indian food and saw the reviews for this place. WOW! We could tell from all the other diners that we were in the right place! Food was fresh, hot, wonderfully spiced, and clearly prepared by a fine, fine chef. We travel this route often, and we will make this stop again the next time we pass through Temple. read more

Gluten-free friendly! Approved for someone like me with Celiac. Super authentic, which translates SPICY! Our waiter was a tall young gentleman who knew all the dishes very well. He recommended the cauliflower for appetizer and it was tasty spicy! I am not a heat tolerant person, which means I do not take spice very well, so for my entree he recommended butter chicken and noted the chef to make is very very mild. The dish was huge in proportion and delicious! My SO is a huge fan of the ethnic food. He said "If it weren't for Roopa having worthwhile ethnic food, I don't know what I would have done." I've been here a few times. We gave no other Indian food in our area. Its mediocre at best and way too pricey for the size and quality. Today, I stepped out of my norm and tried the grilled tilapia with veg. biranya. Oh so disappointing. So bland, where is the salt, fish was dry and the veg in the biranya so mushy. My wife and I love Indian food, so we were very excited to see a well reviewed Indian restaurant in Temple that advertised "Authentic Indian Food" . That excitement quickly turned to disappointment. We ordered take out. So let start off with the samosas. Outside nice and crispy, inside the right texture, but lacking any kind of spice/flavoring at all. My wife order the chicken tika masala and I ordered the butter chicken. Both of these entrees were in what looked like thin turmeric water with some chili flakes, and they tasted exactly the same. We've had both of these dishes before, Indian is usually thick, rich and full of spice(flavor), neither of these dishes fit the bill. The tika masala didn't even have any tomato flavor to it at all. The chicken in both of these dishes tasted like straight grilled chicken, lacking any marinade or spice on it Now the best part of the meal was the naan. We ordered the regular and garlic, both were cooked well and were very buttery. Honestly I've had better Indian food out of the frozen section of a grocery store from brands like Tandoor Chef or Saffron Road. read more

This is a pleasant place to eat and meet people. Somewhat quiet. Service is decent. The menu is somewhat small but offers enough variety for most people. Standard Indian dishes, including dosas. the prices are normal enough too, although I find naan and changing from white to lemon rice at nearly $3 or $4 expensive. the portion sizes are pretty good too. I just didn't find the taste of the two dishes I tried to have much flavor. The ingredients, etc., seemed fine. We stayed pretty late and they waited until we were done. That was nice. I decided to let Yelp select my dining spot tonight. I searched "Best Restaurants" and I saw tons of killer reviews. I love Indian food so here I am. The Samosas are HUGE! I was a bit overwhelmed. They came out hot & delicious-crispy as well. The potato-vegetable filling was pleasingly spicy and the biggest I have ever had. This is going to be great. The sauce alongside was spicy with a hint of sweet that beautifully accentuated the Samosas. I ordered Chicken Vindaloo they said a variation on a Portuguese dish. I have known a number of Indian natives with Portuguese surnames so the connection is obvious. A note about the service. My server was attentive, efficient and friendly. She kept my tea glass full and was working most of the room. The Vindaloo resembles Tiki Masala in the dish but has a delightfully different flavor with a distinct chili bite. Extremely high quality chicken and fresh ingredients make the dish. The unexpected accompaniment of a cool and refreshing cucumber based salad gave a cooling splash. People who don't know Indian spices must just dislike flavor. The look, taste, smell and spicy bite combine to make a dining experience unlike any other. Roopa's fully lived up to it's lofty reviews. The food was okay we ordered the garlic chicken, chicken tikki masala and garlic naan. The tikki masala tasted like curry. The garlic naan was about $3 and it came with 4 triangle cut pieces I have tasted better naan and I could have gone without getting this. The restaurant was empty when I went and there was 2 servers. Service was kind of slow and the servers were not very attentive to refilling drinks. The flavor of the food was bland and I will stick to a restaurant that's closer to home Taj Indian restaurant and bar. I have posted a review of that restaurant as well. read more

Very clean and well taken care of restaurant. Our service was excellent the food was even better. We had wonderful potato and pea samosa to start off the meal. The pastry was crisp but not too hard and the potato was soft, flavorful and served at the right temperature. The chicken tikka masala was our main course and was also, cooked perfectly. We did order the lemon rice with it. Separately they are both wonderful dishes. Together, they are still good but the lemon rice overpowered some of the creamy flavor of the tikka masala. This place definitely met my expectations! Dishes were well seasoned and came in perfect portions. Service was attentive without being interruptive. I chose to go "spicy" since experience has taught me most places daily back the heat level for American palettes. This place does NOT, which I appreciated very much! If you're not accustomed to heat, "mild" gives just a touch of heat but is quite manageable. We will be going back for another opportunity to try out their lamb and host dishes since those are only served on Friday and Saturday. read more
