The service here was excellent! I am a big fan of Indian food and this was my first time at this location. I got my entree with the hottest level of spice and let's just say they bring the HEAT! Even with that being said they didn't compromise on the flavor. It was delicious. My only disappointment was the appetizer :( I got myself some samosas and they were dark dark brown and tasted burnt, it was really crunchy like a tortilla chip but the sauce helped a little. I was really looking forward to them because it is my favorite thing to get and as a single mom who doesn't eat out much it was upsetting. This place hits every time! I have yet to try everything on the menu but I try something different every time I go or order out and it's never disappointing. Service is excellent! I once ordered take out and they forgot one of my items but did everything they could to reconcile and I appreciate a place that cares about you having a great experience. Went here for the first time and brought my family. We waited a very, very long time for everything and finally had to leave for a concert before our food was able to be finished. Considering how crowded the restaurant was, it seemed the waiting time was still longer than could be anticipated because we got there in plenty of time (we thought). As for the food quality, I have had much better Indian food in restaurants located in other places around the globe. There was nothing distinctive or special about the chef's cooking abilities. On the way back home from Temple I was looking for a place to eat and based on Yelp reviews I was debating between this place and Thai restaurant. Since they offer 10% off on any purchase I gave Indian place a shot. Customer service was amazing and girl was super sweet. Food was delicious and well presented. Very clean inside and in bathroom. Nice Indian music and pictures of Taj Mahal in addition make this spot more authentic. Fish pakora was soft and slightly spicy. Dessert gulab janum was so good and sweet, I would order it again. Three small donuts for $5.49 is a bit pricey but its worth a try. read more

Today I ordered take out. This is only my 3rd visit to this place (my first and second visits were well over two years ago so I didn't remember much) and I wanted to give it a fair shot and eat something "different" and "healthy" today for lunch. The order taking was easy, efficient and delivered on time as promised. I ordered the Medu Vada and the Chicken Reshmi Kabab with a side of chicken biryani. Let me start by saying that I don't know that I would classify anything fried as "healthy". The medu vada had a good texture as far as "fried donuts" go and the onion was definitely a prevailing flavor however they were somewhat bland. The sides that they came with, coconut chutney and sambar didn't do anything to compliment the bland donut. The chutney was runny, and somewhat floury in its flavor or rather lack thereof. There was no pronunciation of coconut or whatever else is supposed to be in there and again it was so bland. The sambar was another flavor that I was not expecting. While it had some heat (which I love), it also has a very strong flavor that reminded me of the smell of petrol and was not at all appetizing. Its unfortunate as this was the most "flavorful" part of this dish. The Chicken Reshmi on the other hand was just ok. The chicken was really dark in color which I attribute to the marinade and cooking process but it certainly did nothing to appeal to the "eye" which opens the gate to the appetite. The flavors were simple and somewhat understated, again lacking in salt (or seasoning). I chose this dish because it said it was seasoned with ginger, garlic and chilis of which I couldn't really make any out. The accompaniment of the mint chutney was really its only saving grace, but again ... meh. The biryani was good and even though it was meant to be a side dish it ended up bein my actual meal out of this whole $30 lunch! The only thing that would have made it better would have been smaller cuts of chicken as the "chunks" they added were rather bulky and needed to be cut down to edible bite size pieces. It also had a side of what was supposed to be a cucumber salad? Again sadly, this was lacking in flavor and where it not for the onion, there would have been no flavor at all, just watery cucumber with specks of mint. I have had good Indian, and Nepalese food and I understand that like with any meal, dishes vary from region to region however this place is not a do over for me. If you enjoy simply seasoned food with not much pop or salt to bring out the flavor then this is your spot. As for healthy ... I don't think so. read more

Kudos to the wait staff they were very sweet and worked hard to ensure we we enjoying our meal. The Samosas was very good. however, we were so disappointed in the entrees Butter chicken and Vindaloo chicken. The Vindaloo at minimum spicy was inedible it was so hot and smelled highly of fish. The Naan bread also smelled of rotten fish and tasted awful. Might have been an off night but next time thru Temple we will go elsewhere. read more

Very upsetting I absolutely love the food and amazing authentic flavor however the service staff is less than satisfactory, on serval occasions I've had problems with attitude from the wait staff and they just seem overall irritated and annoyed to be at work. I've also have had several problems with inventory shortages I understand that with fresh food running out of some things is bound to happen however it would be amazing if we knew about being out of stock before Ordering, I drove all the way from Austin to enjoy the fantastic flavor and wasn't notified until about 5-10 minutes after placing my order and informing me I got the last one they were actually out of stock for my entree, and not once did the wait staff apologize for inconvenience or the miscommunication on their behave. Went here based on reviews. Will admit I was skeptical about it due to our relatively small population but took a chance. We have a large Indian population here so I had hope. We went in around 5 pm and there were three other tables with customers. We were greeted immediately and seated. Our drink orders came quickly and we opted for the onion pakora app. It's kinda like the Indian version of onion rings but with a curry flavor and a coconut chutney dipping sauce. The onions were sweet, batter like tempura- not greasy at all. The dipping sauce cooled the heat from the curry. They were delicious. We decided to order the chicken tikka masala- a staple favorite for this type of cuisine. There are three spice levels- mild, medium and hot. We tried medium at my husband's bequest and against my better judgement based on reviews. Oh man- it was hott! I like spicy but this was a bit much for me- like the spice took over my palate. I could still taste the flavors of the masala but they were muddied by the heat level. The gravy was well rounded and unctuous, well seasoned. The basmati rice was perfectly fluffy and separate. The chicken was juicy and toothsome. The garlic naan was perfect for dipping sauce- but alas- the sauce was just too much for me. Overall this meal was delicious and I WILL go back and choose spice level more wisely. Sooo... the reason for 3 and not 4 stars is the cleanliness of the place. We were seated right next to a swinging door- hidden wait station that was very visibly soiled and the bathroom door was the same. Watching waitstaff flat hand these doors and then bring out drinks and food was hard to watch. The staff need to take some Lysol wipes to clean off the oils/ filth off the doors. It really is awful. Next time I will order to-go I hopes that waitstaff touching those doors won't touch my food. Otherwise- good job! read more

I have had a lot of Indian food in my day. I've been to maybe 25 different Indian restaurants and have been lucky enough to eat my Indian friends' mothers' cooking a few times. Roopa's is better than all of them (sorry Mrs. Parekh!) We tried the biryani and the tikka masala and both were the best I've had - especially the biryani. The prices are correct for what you get - it isn't a bargain but it is not overpriced either. Good ambiance inside too, nothing fancy but comfortable, clean, and great service. I live in Silicon Valley in California, home to a plethora of Indian restaurants. We came to visit our daughter and her in-laws in Temple this week. When my daughter suggested this place, my first thought was, "How can this place in Temple, Texas (of all places) be any good?" I try to eat vegetarian most of the time so I ordered the Palak Paneer (mild, because I'm kind of a pussy when it comes to spicy food) with Lemon Rice (because my daughter said that it was to-die-for delicious). The others ordered the Butter Chicken, and the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Dal Fry. We also got some Garlic Naan (because nobody makes bad naan). The servers were very friendly and attentive and the food came quickly. OMG (sorry, I've always wanted to say that in a Yelp review). The first bite of my Palak Paneer was heaven (not in a cloud-filled or harpy kind of heaven, but the kind with the angel choirs and colored lights and the boomy voice)--and so was every other bite. In short, it was literally the best (yes, I said, "the best") Indian food I've ever had. The sauce was smooth and creamy with just the right amount of spice and ohh-sooo-yummy. I couldn't try the chicken (because, you know, it's not vegetarian) but the Dal Fry was also very, very good. The others liked their meals as well. We topped off the meal with hot chai and a very delicious pistachio cheese cake. So, how good is this place, really? Well, we went back the next day for lunch (yesterday) and tonight, we are going back for another dinner--in a town known for good BBQ. Yes, it is that good!! read more

Best option for Indian food in this area! FOOD: My favorite would have to be the garlic naan and butter chicken medium spice(stick to mild if spicy isn't for you) so creamy and delicious! The chicken vindaloo is flavorful as well, and Definitely has a kick. Tried the chicken biryani once and it was just way too oily to even appreciate the flavor. Fish pakora is crispy, flavorful, and actually pretty spicy so be warned! The dosa is average but not bad, seemed like some of the chickpeas were undercooked. ATMOSPHERE: Clean, pretty nice decor inside, seems a little empty with a strange distribution of seating but I've always been seated promptly. SERVICE: Friendly, quick service. Nice clean place, if lacking in character. The samosas were beautifully spiced and moist inside and didn't even need the chutney. The homemade chutneys were packed with flavor. I like hot but if you don't you can ask for things mild. They also ask if you have peanut allergies (I don't) but I appreciate they ask. The aloo gobi was ok but there was a flavor in there I didn't care for. The chicken vindaloo was OK but not my favorite. It was tender but there was something about it I just didn't care for. The lemon rice is pretty spectacular with lots of spices adding crunchy flavor. The garlic naan bread is life changing, I don't why, but you've got to try it. However, it was unevenly cooked. I love this place and will return. I will keep trying the different entrees to find my favorites. read more

My Husband took me to 'Indian Bistro' in KilleenTX; which he didn't care too much for. So he asked me to come & try out this place. The atmosphere is very 'Casual Romantic'... Meaning- it's a nice place you could visit- Alone; with Friends; or even for 'Date Night'. (Which I will definitely have my Husband bring me here) :) ... Lightly Dimmed w/ Romantic lighting. To drink, I had the 'Indian Lemonade'... It's delicious- if you like Lemonade & Herbal Tea... The lemonade is made Fresh; and you can taste the Herbs within it... It's a lot healthier than the usual fountain lemonade drinks. To eat- I ordered the 'Chicken Tikka Masala' & the 'Garlic Naan'... Which both were simply AMAZING. :) The Garlic Naan- is like a Garlic Pita Bread. But very tasty... I've had before; other places I've tried was heavily buttered. (Yuck!)... But, this place- it was a 'JUST RIGHT' bread- to order with your meal. The Silverware you eat off of- is even thought of... Perfect for a Date... Because it's not that 'standard, cheap silverware' many places use. I definitely will come back!!! From the Customer Service- to the Food- to the cleanliness of the Restaurant & the restroom... Absolutely love Roopa's Kitchen. It's my favorite restaurant in Temple. I would not say I'm well-versed in Indian cuisine, but I love trying new dishes from Roopa's, and none have disappointed. You must order the samosas!!!! In my opinion the spice level here is a little on the high end compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to.
