Goetta grilled cheese sandwiche
Alan G.

I've been here many times but never wrote a review. Their fried chicken is the best as it's been a west side staple for 64 years. This time I got the burger and my wife got the goetta grilled cheese sandwich. The burger was okay and the tartar sauce was just that, nothing special about it. It was a hand made burger not a premade patty. I don't recall ever getting the burger there, mostly the chicken or their German meals. The wife thought the goetta grilled cheese sandwich was dry and I had a bit and it was. It needed something else as it was plain. Service was good as the waitress was a multitasker and kept up on the refills.

We have ordered delivery from Ron's Roost many times. The chicken and Saratoga Chips are fantastic! The do a good delivery business. Our in-person visit was our first. We met with a group of friends. The restaurant is comfortable. Our waitress was great. Mark and I both ordered something different. I started with hot bacon slaw which was fantastic as usual. I ordered the lunch sauerbraten. The taste caught me off guard because it was definitely 'sauer'. After a few bites the flavor settled in. The meat was tender and each bite was quite good. Regarding the potato pancake, it was smaller than you know who's, but I vouch for the flavor! It was the better potato pancake! Mark ordered the Swiss Mushroom Burger. He thought it was okay. We had Saratoga Chips delivered back in the day. We didn't have any during lunch, but they are top notch! Overall.. good food and great service.

The Ron's Roost is casual with a sports bar vibe. We came on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed. We were seated right away. The current basketball and football games were playing on the multiple t.V We ordered the hot slaw. I really didn't like it It was basically a small bowl full of raw cabbage and an acidic, watery, vinegar at the bottom with bacon bits on top. At least the bacon bits were was real, cooked bacon. It was a watery, acidic, mess. Yuck! We also ordered the Bourbon Angus Burger. You could get it with. Onion straws or onion rings. I got mine wet onion rings. I took the onion rings off and ate them separately. They were crispy and delicious. That burger... wow! Juicy, quality beef with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and crispy pickles! Yummy I'd come back just for that burger! We didn't get our complementary rolls though. We didn't know we were supposed to get them until we saw a few other folks with them. By the time we figured it out, we had already eaten. :-( Our server was Isabella was very sweet and provided honest recommendations! It was an overall good experience:-)

The price on the website

We used to love eating the buffet here but recently the price doesn't justify the selection. Items are missing and now the website price is different from the dry erase board price, the menu says prices subject to change. When you call to confirm prices, you get no option for a human. How sad. Used to go there weekly.

I went here and got the chicken and waffles with coleslaw. The chicken was amazing and so was the coleslaw, however the waffles were a little dry. Service was great and attentive. The ambiance was amazing and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back

A Cincinnati staple, Ron's Roost has been in business for almost 65 years! Located in Cheviot, not far off of I-74, they have a really nice bar area and larger dining area. Came here for their famous fried chicken and it didn't disappoint! Beautiful crispy crust and the chicken comes right off the bone. Told the man who I assume was the owner that it was our first time there and he brought us a free plate of saratoga chips and warm barbecue sauce to dip them in. So many good options on the menu but it would be hard not to order the chicken again! We are already thinking about when we can go back!

My grandma was born and raised in Cincinnati and she is Cincy through and through. I've heard her talk about Ron's Roost multiple times, but had never been there with her because she acted like it would take us forever to get here (she lives in Fairfield). When she turned 90, she kept saying that this is where she wanted to go for her bday dinner, but that it was too far away for most family members. So I got on a plane from Phoenix, surprised her for her 90th bday and took her to Ron's Roost the day after her bday. She was delighted! Honestly, my rating for this place mostly is because my grandma loves it so much and seeing her so happy makes me enjoy this place all the more! The reason my grandma (Nammy, as us grandkids call her) is such a fan is that she (like many native Cincinnatians in the 1930s) is German through and through. She was raised with authentic German cooking and there are few restaurants in the City that make German food the way her mother did. Ron's Roost is the exception. I personally was looking forward to trying this place out only because I was perplexed at how a joint known for fabulous chicken also makes authentic sauerbraten, mock turtle soup, etc. When we walked in, I got more of a sports bar vibe than anything (which added to my perplexity). It seems that the sauerbraten is a menu staple item, which attracts many folks to the restaurant. But most others come for the delicious chicken. Conflicted between ordering one of my favorite menu items ever (chicken tenders), with wanting to pay homage to my Cincinnati German roots (I am a 4th generation Cincinnati-born German after all!), I was unsure what to get. Ultimately, I figured I could test out Nammy's sauerbraten and get my own tenders--- but I did order a cup of the mock turtle soup. Yum! The sauerbraten was great-- extremely tender. I could see why people would come here just to get that. I also really enjoyed the chicken tenders and just as easily can see why this place would be known for their chicken. Why a 4 star rating instead of 5? For me are two things: 1) their fries are not that good. When you are known for chicken, you also have to step it up a bit in the potato game so that your fried potatoes (whether they be classic, waffle, or wedge) need to be the perfect complement. I found their fries to be lacking in seasoning and a tad too crispy for me. 2) I got excited when I saw some Rhinegeist marketing in the window. I figured they'd have a decent selection of this fantastic Cincinnati beer. However, they only had one option. Either way, I still loved Ron's Roost and am glad that there is a Cincinnati staple that serves authentic German cuisine. I feel like my grandma when I say "we need more places like this in Cincinnati!" We are already planning to head back here in April when I am in town for Easter. (Also, this is only a 30 min drive from Fairfield. My grandma acted like it would be a 50 min drive lol.. So I'm sure we will get here more often now that I know it's not THAT far away....)

Don't order the boneless wings, nasty compressed overly breaded chicken. Chicken fingers are good.

This is a truly hidden gem…read more On a dead end street at the beginning of Harrison Ave where it's "interrupted" by I-75, there's plenty of street parking. You've got to be observant or you might miss the place. Housed in what I suspect is an old factory and operated by a skeleton crew, this place gets it right. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to whatever eclectic spot you choose to sit. The food is prepared where you can clearly see the cook. The care taken when preparing the food seems extraordinary in today's automated rush rush world. I would recommend this place without hesitation. Cold beer, healthy portions, not too bad on the wallet (not cheap though). If you can find it, go there.

There seemed to be just one front of house person taking orders and pouring drinks, so there was a bit of a wait to order. They were unfortunately out of the cheese/onion spätzle so my fiance ordered currywurst instead. The rest of us ordered schnitzel with buttered spätzle. When the plates were set down, my finance immediately said he had plate envy. The schnitzels were huge and amazing. The buttered spätzle was the best I've had locally, both in texture and taste. The pork was pounded thin and fried but remained so tender and juicy. The currywurst was a bit of a let down for my finance. He said it seemed like regular wursts, with regular ketchup and some curry powder sprinkled on top. There was also not much ketchup. Maybe we are just used to Germany where they are swimming in a curry ketchup. The potatoes were great however. Overall, I would definitely recommend Kantine and hope to be back when they have the spätzle with onions and cheese.

I settled on the Waves of Grain ale which I enjoyed. We ordered #1 pizza - toppings were very good but the crust was ordinary (did not eat the crusts, a sure sign of a lackluster dough). Service was friendly but spare (it's almost all self-serve, so not much of a role for staff except to direct confused patrons). The space was open with lots of seating. Ambiance is industrial/parking lot. It's located where the old (and kitschy) Rancho Rankin motel used to be, which old time Cincinnatians might remember.

They have a beer "Vending Area" area. You get a cash card then you pick and dispense your beer of choice. It's a great concept. Since I'm as newbie, I tried a small sample of several to find my favorite out of about 30 in-house brews. Then I got a full glass and sat down to some local entertainment. Tonight's band was "Twice Is Nice". A couple of talented guys who can sing pretty good, playing the music of Tom Petty, James Taylor & Elton John and a few of their own. After a few beers, We ordered food from the other "Vending Area". "Plan your own pizza" Sauce, cheese, toppings. Pick it up at the window when your buzzards goes off. The pizza was just "Ok". The giant pretzel was tasty. All said, the home brewed beer and the entertainment made this a great experience.
