The staff were very friendly and attentive even at the busy lunch time. The homemade pita and olive oil with seasonings was delightful. We also ordered hummus which was smooth and a good portion size for an appetizer. My husband enjoyed the chicken shawarma salad. I had the Roman's salad which had some feta salad, tabouli, and a grape leaf. Everything tasted fresh. With a high Greek competitive market Baton Rouge has this restaurant was lacking in flavor for me. The gyro meat and the peta bread was the best. I have seen great things about their pizza as well. This is going to sound crazy but if you sit in the back table next to the hallway I am convinced the air vent sucks the men bathroom air directly out into the dining room. Luckily I was at the end of my meal but there were two young adult males that took turns going to the bathroom before even ordering and moments later I was smelling the worst smells. I had to send my girlfriend to the front to pay while I through the left overs in a box and met her outside. It was my first visit to the Roman Cafe and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and the service is prompt and efficient. I had the chicken shawarma bowl in which the chicken is placed on top of grilled veggies including zucchini, red and green bell peppers, onion, and even a couple of smallish new potatoes. There's a dollop of a sauce, the name of which I forget, but it was similar to tzatziki sauce. Ugh, I hate doing a 2 star or less review and especially to a place I have patronized often! There's competition for my 5 dollar--oops now $20-$25 lunch meal and if I have a bad experience I can go elsewhere---and in the case of this establishment there are plenty of similar type food places as theirs within a short drive--I count 4 other competitors and if you include the gas station there's 5--and right now and in the near future I will go to those 5 before I return here. Why? I just did not enjoy my experience today as I felt the manager/owner was rushing us to order and wanting us to order quickly ---and at that time there were at least 2 open tables. If memory serves me right this location has 9, maybe 10 tables indoors and seating outdoor---so 2 open tables plus outdoor seat does not mean they were at capacity. Anyway, that's how I felt so for the foreseeable future I will take a sabbatical from this location and choose a nearby competitor when I want this type food. But I will return in 3-4-5 months as the food is pretty good but just as Yelp has one focused on food, service and ambiance, I factor food, service and ambiance amongst what I considered in determining where I choose to dine. I love LOVE Roman's. I also love Albasha but I just rather Roman's Grecian sauce and their rice. My husband likes Albasha more but every now and then I'll convince him to get Roman's instead and lately when we've been doing that, I don't know what has changed but they're getting so stingy with how much food they put on your plate especially when their prices went up a couple years ago. If it isn't the rice it's the sauces. It's just very known that they're cutting back with your food. I've attached a picture of my chicken shawarma plate before eating it, look how much rice they put me. If your prices are higher now compared to the last couple of years ago then this is definitely not the time to scoop less when serving your customers. read more

I've been here before and really enjoyed it, gave it a 4 star review. The pizza is fantastic and they have fresh pita bread that is delicious. The times I've been there it's been kind of empty so I've been pleasantly surprised they are still in business. The reason for the updated 21 star review is the fact that one of the employees shut the door on me as I was approaching the store. He saw me approaching the door and got up from eating his dinner and started closing the door. They close at 8pm, and this was at 740. I wasn't going to dine and just order, grab the food, and go. I asked if they changed they're hours but the guy said no, they just shut the kitchen down. For a business that has at least 2 other Greek alternatives within a mile, and doesn't appear to have much business, turning customers away doesn't seem like a good practice. This was a new Romans for us. It was nice! It's a fun atmosphere the waiter was a nice guy. Portions are different than the others, less rice and more salad. Their pita bread is thicker and softer. I love Romans! They have the best hummus and Chicken Shawarma in town by far. There is something creamy and tangy about it that I like more than other hummuses. It's a great spot for a vegan dish as well because they have falaffel and grape leaves without meat. I use to work near Roman's Cafe back in the day and had always use to frequent there for their gyros and shwarma plates. Since then they moved location and I haven't been to any of the other locations probably in years. I decided to try them out today and was definitely impressed by the quality of food and service and deeply missed the food I use to eat following work. To start off with we got the fried cheese appetizer which was delicious! Slightly salty but the acidity of the sauce and feta cut the saltines and gave it a nice good flavor. My main entree was the pizza which I got half chicken shawarma and half gyro on each side! Bell peppers, red onions, feta and a nice sauce with cheese just was the perfect combination for a pizza! Honestly this isn't a pizza place but that pizza was amazing! I love thin crust pizza and with shawarma and gyro on it, just hit a home run for me! We also got the lamb kabobs which was solid, the meat was great but it was little on the dry side but at least the hummus which it came with sort've offset set it along with rice. Oh by the way Roman's definitely has the best hummus in town in my opinion! Overall I highly recommend, awesome service,food, and overall quality just reminded me how Roman's Cafe continues to be my favorite Greek place in town! read more

I love coming across hidden gems and Roman's is the latest on my list of finds. I have passed by this spot while visiting other businesses in this shopping center numerous times but never stopped to try it. One night I was searching around for a place that had pizza with Greek flavors/toppings and came across Roman's. We tried the chicken shawarma pizza for dinner and enjoyed it so much that I came back for a to-go lunch a few days later. I got the grilled redfish and it did not disappoint! The portions were generous and the fish was well cooked and very flavorful, and my order was ready pretty quickly. The only thing I would have preferred is more of the sauce that came on top of the fish because it was bomb. I can definitely see this being a go-to spot for a quick, filling lunch. read more

The food is really good. I have gotten several things but the lamb shank, pita breads and hummus are my absolute favorite. The lamb shank is season well, very tender and served with a small amount of broth. Romans is the only place that serves it that way and it if fantastic. I have been to different Greek/Lebanese restaurants and their bread is the best. It's toasted with herbs, I have not seen any other in the city with this technique/style of preparation. The hummus is so rich, smooth and flavorful it makes you want to go back for more. The service was fair before covid, after covid there was only one server and the individual could use a bit more training. The individual was kind and It seemed as if the person was trying to be as helpful as they knew how. The manager definitely needs to work on improving the server training. If the service was better I would definitely go more often. As far as Ambiance, it's not upscale at all but better than the atmosphere of a dinner. read more

This was some of the worst Greek food I've ever had, to the point where I don't know how they have any business. The pita is the worst pita I've ever had. Super bland, thick, and hard. More like naan, but even then, bad naan. The hummus and falafel also had zero flavor. It's almost as if they make everything with water and no seasoning. It is unfortunate too because the falafel is spot on texture-wise, but I cannot imagine it having any seasoning at all (not even salt). In fact, most falafel I've eaten is slightly green on the inside from all of the seasoning, and this falafel was tan on the inside. We just really "discovered" Roman's restaurants in Baton Rouge. We've eaten at the Bluebonnet location twice and the Airline location once, all in one week! We're partial to the Airline location. BOTH locations have beautiful staff, so friendly and helpful and genuinely glad to have you dining there. But their menus differ just a tiny tad. My husband ordered the red fish both times at this Bluebonnet location. I tasted a bit of it and it was cooked to just the right firmness and the sauce it was served with added flavor but was not slathered all over the fish. I am ashamed I can't remember what I ordered on our first visit. On our second visit I ordered the vegetarian plate. The spinach pie must have been cooked right after I ordered (not pre-made and just warmed up!). It sure did taste fresh! However, I was once told that for falafel to be with authentic, it is supposed to be "green" on the inside. The falafel with this plate was not. It was yellow, like light cornbread. Also on our first visit, the pita bread was all fluffy, warm and "puffed up", really delish. On the second visit, the pita was soft and warm, but not puffed up. The potatoes that my husband ordered were cubed and then sautéed or grilled or something to make them just right, crispy and flavorful. They are addictive. The vegetarian stuffed grape leaves were not as good as the Airline location. the Lebanese iced tea...stilll a treat. treat. Just right sweet and tart. Now one menu item I should have tried at this Bluebonnet location was the cauliflower crust pizzas! I bet they're good! So, I guess I like the Airline location better, but when we go to Bluebonnet location, I've got those pizzas to try! Absolutely love this place. Went here for dinner last night. The staff was overly accommodating. Such a great, small, quaint place to take a date to. The atmosphere is just perfect with music in the background. Our waitress was so sweet. Started out with their complimentary pita with oil dipping sauce. We had their Lebanese tea. Entrees were the grilled red fish and the chicken Shish kabob. Both were insanely delicious. I highly recommend the red fish. You can tell everything is made to order. So fresh! The veggies that they used are sitting in the basket at the front counter. The entrees were served on a hot skillet. There is a special oven that they pulled the entrees from. I just can't express how special this location is for Roman's. I felt like I was dining elsewhere and not in Baton Rouge. My experience was perfection. read more
