We shared several things, with the highlights being the duck lasagna, the tomahawk, and the porterhouse steaks, although everything we ordered on the menu was delicious. I went to Bowery Meat Company for an early Friday work dinner with a group of five, and overall had…read morea good experience. One thing I liked right away was that it felt more modern and trendy than some of the old-school NYC steakhouses that have been around forever. The dining room is dimly lit and has a polished, upscale feel. The servers also wear white coats, which I initially thought made them look more like scientists or doctors than steakhouse waiters, but it definitely fits the whole concept once you get into it. Service was excellent. Everything came out quickly and in succession, and the staff checked on us often. We ordered the tomahawk steaks, lamb chops, shrimp, Caesar salad, asparagus, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and salt & vinegar fries. The tomahawk comes rare by default, which was fine for my coworkers, but I prefer mine a little more cooked. They were happy to cook a few pieces for me separately. The steak itself was good, and my coworkers really loved the house steak sauce. I thought the sauce was fine but I've had better. The fries and asparagus were both good, and we ordered about the right amount of sides for five people. The Caesar was probably my least favorite thing. I actually like anchovy, but this was way too heavy on it for me and had a noticeably fishy flavor that overwhelmed the salad. The lamb chops were also quite small, more like little lollipops, and weren't particularly memorable. The bread pudding, though, was excellent and probably my favorite thing I ate here. We ended with that, tea and a few drinks. My coworkers thought the espresso martinis were a little watery, although I didn't have a strong opinion on them myself. We were eventually told they needed our table and were moved to the bar, which was fair and handled well. Overall, I thought Bowery Meat Company was a good steakhouse with great service, a nice atmosphere and a more modern feel than some of the classic NYC spots. The steak was solid, the bread pudding was a standout, and a few of the other dishes were more hit-or-miss for me.

It's a very small, but cozy restaurant, and one could tell that those that own it care about the space and how well organized, clean, and put together it is. The sense of minimalism and European food brands (ex. malt vinegars) add charm to the simple setting giving off a non-pretentious, relaxed, ambience. The waiter was friendly and efficient. Now for the most important part: the food! The fish n' chips are deliciously superb. The cod tasted fresh. The batter was light, crispy, and spiced well. What was noteworthy was the tartar sauce. It has a unique tang to it that made the fish n' chips refreshing despite the fact that it's deep-fried. Maybe it was a usage of lime and celery? The chips were nice and crispy, but you could definitely taste the potato still. I ate the whole plate. A pleasant experience. I know where I'll go to get my fish n' chips next time I'm in Manhattan.

There are numerous locations now in the city but this was my first time going and I was definitely eyeing it for awhile. They do weekday lunch specials of $14 pastas, boozey weekend brunches for around $24/25(not including food), and $12 Sunday dinner specials on entrees as well as happy hours on weekdays from 4-7pm that include: $7 snacks, $8 wine, $5 beer, $9 spritzes, and $9 wells. I happened to come in for Labor Day Brunch on Saturday. We both said we were going to do unlimited but honestly could only finish about a pitcher of mimosa and they only charged us for the one pitcher was the nice part. I went with Carbonara Pasta and my boyfriend had the egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich with fries. I'm not gonna lie, I've never gone to aycd brunch and have not finished my food but I could not finish my entree it was so massive and filling. I haven't had a pasta this rich in ages and it was so so good and I am all for not having those skimpy little portions. He couldn't finish his sandwich either. I tried one of the fries and it was nicely battered thick cut wedge fries. Maybe I haven't been eating out alot lately but I was legit impressed. The staff was wonderful and thoughtful. The cafe in itself is very cute and Italian with black and white marble in the bathrooms, white marble bar top, hanging plants, interesting light fixtures. I'm definitely going to make a point to come back soon.

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain why labeling those items as gluten free is misleading, but he seemed completely disinterested, even annoyed, dismissed what I was saying, and simply responded that the pasta is gluten free. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.
