The pizza wasn't cooked. It's a shame the Pizza didn't look anything like the Pizza in the pictures.

Every once in a while you find a place that's been around forever, and after one visit you…read moreunderstand why. Olde World Apizza is one of those places. I ordered two pizzas. A plain tomato pie and their Italian combo. Let's start with the plain. This isn't a mozzarella pizza. It's just dough, tomato sauce, grated Pecorino Romano, and olive oil. That's it. When there are only four ingredients, every one of them has to be good. And they were. The sauce had a great tomato flavor with a nice balance. The Pecorino gave it that salty bite without taking over, and the olive oil tied everything together. Simple pizza sounds easy. It isn't. There's nowhere to hide. The crust was thin with a nice crisp crunch. Good oven spring around the edge and just the right amount of char. That smoky, savory flavor is exactly what I look for in a brick oven apizza. The bottom had a great bake too. Crisp enough to hold the slice but still had a little chew. The Italian combo was loaded. Sausage, pepperoni, bacon, onions, peppers and mushrooms. Sometimes a pizza with this many toppings turns into a mess. This one didn't. Every bite was balanced. Salty, savory, a little sweetness from the onions and peppers. It all worked. Two completely different pizzas, both done really well. Olde World isn't chasing trends or trying to reinvent pizza. They're just making honest brick oven apizza with quality ingredients and it shows. I'll definitely be back. There are a few more pies on that menu with my name on them.

There's about 8 booths- It's a bit on the small side but the food was fantastic. Hubby and I were born and raised in NYC. It's been so long we've had really good pizza. John and Steve brought out pie after pie. We had the plain, plain with grated cheese, tomato with fresh mozzarella, clam with bacon, mangia special, Stevie Gs apple pizza, mashed potato pizza. We brought in our homemade suppi and they put it on some of our pies. We also tried the eggplant Parmesan and garlic knots. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. Even better than their pizza- is their service. It was my first time meeting them and I felt like an old friend. They were so friendly, chatted with us, told us stories -- we really had a good time. The older gentleman who brought out the food and took away the empty trays was very thorough- checked in on us regularly. Mangia Apizza is easy to miss - connected to Vick's Cafe (really it's a bar). Stop in and grab a pizza. You won't be sorry. And if you want someone to talk your ears off - stop in and eat at a booth. I wish they were closer!!

"Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace Molly is the singer…read morein a band Desmond says to Molly, "Girl, I like your face" And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand" (Lennon and McCartney) Man oh man do we love our Italian markets and delis. And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.
