My daughter and I were at the Food Festival and we passed by Vito's Pizzeria, so we had to try it. As soon as we entered the establishment, we were greeted by the staff. The restaurant is small but it does have a small patio outside to enjoy your pizza. We ordered two Pepperoni slices and they came out in about five minutes. The pizza was good and it had a thicker crust. I would compare it to a Greek style pizza because of the thicker crust. The sauce had good flavor and the crust was crispy. No, no, no. I wanted to like it. The dough is thick and dense with no air bubbles. It can't have risen at all. The sauce tastes like tomato paste/sauce from a can with added salt. Too salty! Dough = zero; sauce = zero... what else is there? The cheese is mozzarella, the toppings are alright. Reminds me of Hometown. It's not that I don't appreciate a Greek-style pizza but there are much better ones out there-- Max Pizza in Bristol for example. I do believe people become partial to pizza that resembles what they grew up with so maybe this fits for them. At first glance you think it's Greek style- but after you taste it seems very bread like and reminiscent of an Italian mother's home made pizza. Idk but it's good, the slices are cheap and the toppings are high quality. As you walk inside The display case has a variety of slices and the service is friendly. Try to find a great place for a slice or two in Wolcott. with all the pizza places in Wolcott it is hard to find a good slice. one place only serves slices between 10-12 tues thru Fri. very unhelpful for someone like me. many of them do no slices at all, and for the very few who do their slices they always look like dried snot bec its been sitting there for over 3 hours. Having grown up in the greater Waterbury area, there are a lot of pizza places and Vito's is certainly in the top 3. The sauce is perfect and the homemade sausage can't be beat! The pizza dough is made fresh, allowed to raise properly and cooked until it is brown and crispy. So when you're eating the pizza it tastes like bread and not like cardboard or all doughy as it is at some other pizza joints that don't know what they're doing. "What did you like about it, Mom?" Mariette says, "Everything. The crust was perfect. The sausages and mushrooms were loaded on. The sauce was good sauce. The cheese was yummy. All in all, 5 stars." I love Vito's pizza and would eat it everyday if I could....but not Mondays or Tuesdays because they aren't open either of these days! I really do love this pizza - the fresh tomato and basil is my absolute favorite. The dough is not too thin, not too thick. While this could potentially be one of my top 5 favorite pizza places, there are things about it that really turn me off: 1. Again, they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. That's just annoying. I could see having Mondays off, lots of family owned places do that, but Monday AND Tuesday? That has thrown a wrench into my dinner plans many a night, once I realize what day it is. 2. They ONLY take cash. I am not someone who carries a lot of cash with me. The cash I do carry, I carry for emergencies. Normally, I use my debit card for everything - it's just easier. I went there Saturday for the first time. I got 2 medium , 1/2 sausage and 1/2 pepperoni and all cheese , and a large all cheese . I will say- It was the best pizza we ever had. We have had Vito's pizza at our friends house and decided to order it for ourselves. We went with a Broccoli and garlic pizza. It was AMAZING!!!. We are 20 minutes away but when my husband got home the pizza was still hot and so nice and crispy. This is because they put it in a paper bag rather than a pizza box so it doesnt continue to steam and get soggy. The broccoli and garlic were chopped up nicely and completely covered the pizza.
