Lemongrass in sushi. Roasted... not just plain jalapeños in sushi. I had the Firecracker tofu; it was great. But it was not hot at all. My hot is burn your face off. So I know others might feel differently. Husband and Son in Law had the Green Curry. Both were very happy with it. Great spice. Best they'd ever had. Both said. And my husband has had his share of curries around the USA. They do have a kids menu. Grandchild said the cream cheese wontons were not as good as Panda... but... that might not be a bad thing. The inside of the Roka is so cool, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was so delicious. We ordered potstickers and calamari which was perfection. I ordered Mongolian Beef and my husband ordered Bulgogi Beef, Xaimen Mei Fun and we shared a Tiger Stripe Roll. We even ordered a California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll and Yorissa Roll to go. Never been to Oklahoma and randomly chose this restaurant and what a pleasant surprise! The decor is elegant and tasteful with plenty of parking. Came here for lunch and ordered the five spice calamari which was delightful not heavily breaded but crunchy on a bed of fresh salad. For entree I ordered the beef bulgogi which is a smorgasbord of flavor from the earthy flavor of the mushroom to ginger to a slight spice from the pepper. My partner ordered the chicken fried rice which is flavorful and filling. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and provided superb service. Don't go on a Friday at 6:30. We had a party of 9 so we expected a little bit of a wait. However, an hour and a half for food to arrive was a bit much. Especially since the food was not warm and some dishes were tasteless. Sent back the Pad Thai, just no savory thai sauce taste at all. Pork steamed buns arrived instead of chicken. The place looks nice. The service was good. The food is not that good. Food is the main thing for a restaurant, therefore the review is low. Just what it is. I am a Chinese who immigrated to the US at a young age. My parents grew rice and worked the rice patties until they immigrated. I was looking forward to getting some modernized Americanized Chinese food--call it what it is. My wife and I had not eaten rice for 2 months, so I was looking forward to the experience and the meal. Serving size was ok, but the rice was just really really bad. I don't know why the rice was so hard. It gave me indigestion. I asked my wife to try her rice and it was the same. I don't think it is too much to expect for an Asian place to have eatable rice. It looked like good long grain rice, but it was not cooked, so the grains were hard. Cooked rice should not be individually grainy (as it was). The rice grains should be a little sticky and clump together. One should be almost able to pick a bunch with ones chopstick. They should be soft to eat, not hard. There are rice cookers. Measure out the proportion of rice to water and push the button. It stops cooking when done and keeps warm. Easy. Tip for the restaurant: if you are in a hurry to get the rice cooked, use hot water rather than cold water in the rice cooker. It will drastically shorten your cooking time. I brought the left over rice home and add a 3/4 cup of water and cooked it. It doubled in size. It was perfectly fine afterwards. Going out to eat, I did not expect the need to cook my own rice. I want so badly to LOVE this place and I just don't. I don't think their sushi is that good and their sushi menu is just weak. I hate writing a negative review but I'm just not a fan. The pictures I took are BEAUTIFUL and the food looks so good, but it's not. There's a lot of sushi places I'd recommend before this place. Way too much rice in their rolls, Bland sushi rolls, the quality of fish is extremely disappointing and just looks gross to me. The tuna especially looks bad. Just mushy and transparent. Great service!! The wine was good but the Mango Mojito and Mai Tai were terrible!! They were very watered down and bland. Edamame was super tasty, they put some spices on it that work really well with it. Crispy Avacado rolls were really light and good. Pot stickers and chicken lettuce wraps were perfect. The building and interiors of the place were probably my favorite thing about Roka. The bar has a very neat set up and next time I come here I very well may insist on sitting at the bar. Whoever decorated the place was clearly a pro, it has an upscale feel without seeming pretentious and highlights the culture of the food served. The service wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I think our server was fairly new and a little awkward but I won't hold that against the restaurant; I definitely plan on giving it another try and expanding the sample size. Same goes for the food as was for the service. I had the tiger stripe roll and my date had the 314 roll. I snuck a bite of his and it was tastier than mine so if I had to recommend one I'd choose the 314 roll. The house sake was average but served properly so that's a plus. The server recommended the Kung Pao and perhaps I'll have to try that next time. In addition to a pretty good variety on the menu they had a special sauce set up which was soy sauce and some type of chili paste sauce that you mix together to make "Roka sauce" which was a pretty yummy dipping sauce. Overall, didn't take the cake for best sushi in town or best service in town but I definitely plan on returning to try other Asian flavors! read more

I went here with my mom and my boyfriend for a fundraiser. It's a nice-looking restaurant and I had been there when they were the previous one as well. I had a skillet with steak and veggies on it. The meat was pretty good but a little tough. And the vegetables were good but kind of large and I had to cut everything up. My mom had glazed salmon and it was excellent. Monday night is $5 Roka Burger night! They are delicious! Topped with mushrooms and an Asian sauce and a wasabi sauce and mustard, you will be pleased. It comes with a side of fries that have sesame seeds on them. I'm not really into fries, but my husband said they were great. From 3-6 is happy hour. They have appetizers from $3-6$. We tried the spring rolls and fish tacos. Both were good, but the fish tacos get 5 stars. Each appetizer came with 3 of the item. The rolls were $3 and the tacos were $6. The staff were all nice and helpful. The environment is interesting and different. They have a bar area that looked pretty cool as well, but it's Monday and we had a baby with us, so water it was. Asian food isn't my husbands favorite but I got my way today! AND: so many gluten free choices!!!! I cannot stress enough I had a hard time deciding. We hadn't been to Roka as a couple for several years. I went a month ago with some friends and decided I missed it! First off, I have to say our server Edwardo was excellent. The hubs appreciates that! I started with some Tom Kha soup and it was spicy, flavorful and nice and hot on this cool day. For the entree I went with my favorite Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken. It had more vegetables than I remember and was a nice balanced dish not too sweet. The hubs was sweet and ordered something gluten free as well so we could share which was fun! He got the beef bulgogi. They can make it less hot by leaving the peppers out and serving them on the side. It was a good decision, those peppers were hot! The dish was a flavorful mix of beef, mushrooms, spinach, translucent rice noodles in a savory slightly sweet brown sauce. It was amazing! Also need to mention that the stir fried rice is gluten free-they use tamari sauce! On another occasion I have had the dragon roll and it's not super spicy. I loved it! Roka may well be my favorite spot in Tulsa. The menu is unique and inspired by multiple areas of Asia. The building is beautiful and the interior is cozy and warm with a large bar, tasteful decor, and intimate booths. It's a nice "date" destination. The food is prepared very well and is really fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the chicken pot stickers served with two sauces. The soy cream sauce is a standout. I then had the Bulgogi Beef and it was absolutely delicious. It's full of tenderloin steak, mushrooms, and vegetables served over sweet potato noodles that were so light they seemed like cellophane noodles. I'm going to dream about it tonight. Full of Umami goodness! My daughter enjoyed the rice paper salmon (a little heavy on the cilantro) and a side of fried rice which she loved. I give this place a 5 out of 5. I always thought this space was nice and interestingly designed. I was unimpressed with the food when it was Tei Keis. While the food seems to have improved, there are other places (both upscale and downscale) that are doing asian inspired dishes much better. Was with a large group, so I was impressed with how timely the food came out. No one ended up having to wait and there were no messed up orders. Various appetizers were shared, and I did really like the avocado egg rolls. Sushi was pricey and didn't see any rolls that were overly unique. I judge places like this by their hot and sour soup. While the soup had large pieces of mushroom and meat, this didn't past muster as it was neither hot nor sour. I also ordered the pad thai. While it tasted good and had that perfect balance of spice, sour, savory and sweet, by the end it had turned into a wet, soggy, limey mess. Other people ordered the bulgogi which looked fantastic. Inside the lighting is dim and the decor is ornate and authentic - it just feels special. We sat a huge booth with cool pillows. After getting cozy, mama was ready for a drink! Hollllaaa... they use Oklahoma's Prairie Wolf Spirits for drinks! I asked for the Blushing Dragon and for it be spicy (I mean come on... it was date night.) The muddled fruit was the perfect amount of natural sweet and the spice added was ace. Food-wise we went with the tempura avocado, pad thai, dragon and 314 roll. Sauces are made in-house on the daily and paired incredible well with everything. The tempura avocado had just the right amount of breading and is something I will order every single time I come... there isn't anything like it Tulsa I've found. The pad thai was on the sweet side and came with both shrimp and chicken. The sushi? Out of this world fantastic. Everything from the presentation to every bite is something dreams are made of.
