They also sell a variety of products from other cheese makers, as well as other goodies to pair with your cheese like Olympic Provisions and Molinari meats. We shared a classic rogue grilled cheese ($8) and 12oz tomato soup ($6). While super satisfying, including the bread they used, I personally would have loved more blue! We picked up some of the Rogue River Blue (made with AUTUMN milk, wrapped in Syrah leaves soaked in pear spirits - mind blowing) and the new BluZu (soaked in yuzu-infused sake) and are looking forward to enjoying them at home. Last year, I ordered more than a hundred dollars in cheese from Rogue Creamery. I wanted their award winning Rogue River Blue for my son-in-law who loves cheese and that alone was $80. I ordered some other cheeses to try as well like lavender and chocolate stout. After it arrived, we all got together and made a lovely cheeseboard as a family and had a great time. At that time, I started a five-star review in my drafts on Yelp and I never got around to finishing it. When I realized I would be passing by the creamery on a recent road trip, I knew I had to stop. My first experience with them had been so amazing, I could not wait to visit. From what we could tell, the parking for the creamery is in the lot of a different business that is adjacent to it but it was a bit confusing for us. We travel with our dog and pets are not allowed inside so my husband and I took turns looking inside. The cheese area is quite small and there is another small shop area attached that sells miscellaneous kitchen items as well. There is a window where you can look into the creamery but no one was working when we came and there was a couple seated in front of it blocking the view anyway. They had one cheese out for sampling but it was quite plain and I did not enjoy it. The employee was not very welcoming and overall, we were pretty disenchanted. Still, we decided to get the "Classic" grilled cheese and tomato soup because it's one of my favorites and hard to mess up. We were told it would be brought out to us so we waited outside with our pup and after quite some time I asked my husband to go back inside and see if it was ready. There were only 5 other people at the shop and 3 were women already seated outside and eating their food so I really don't know what took so long. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup and I was incredibly disappointed in their take on it. The grilled cheese was made with a blue cheese and some sort of spicy honey. The flavors were a mishmash of sharp and creamy and sour and sweet and we did not enjoy it. The soup was also a big let down. It was thin with chunks of tomato and overpowering spice instead of creamy with a warm natural flavor. I realize everyone has their own tastes but I really wish I hadn't stopped here as it literally and figuratively left a bad taste in my mouth. I do not like blue cheese. I'll get that out of the way first. But Rogue Creamery with their world renowned cheese? There's no way I could resist visiting. On a weekday morning right during opening, as soon as I opened the front door, I could smell funky blue cheese wafting through the entire shop. Rogue Creamery doesn't make many types of cheese - just a couple of blues and cheddar, nestled in a single refrigerated display case, but they also offer other cheeses from several different outside suppliers. To complete a cheese plate, they also sell an assortment of charcuterie items like jams and honeys, and plenty of items in the fridge. Of course, since we were traveling, we couldn't exactly buy much, so we went with one of their famous grilled cheeses: Classic Rogue Grilled Cheese ($8) - This sandwich includes a drizzle of honey on both faces of bread followed by a sprinkle of blue cheese. and then a veritable mound of cheddar, which is then sandwiched together and pressed in a panini press. The amount of cheese included creates an awesome cheese stretch. The sandwich is rich and fatty, and the bread, cheese, and honey blends creates a somewhat salty, funky and sweet bite. While the bread is toasted, I don't believed it's buttered, so it isn't that crisp. I'd like to see some additional crunchy elements in the sandwich - perhaps some toasted nuts? I dislike blue cheese immensely, but it's surprisingly mild and sweet in this sandwich, being blended and balanced with the cheddar. Would I get this sandwich again? Probably not, due to the blue cheese, but it was great to try! Rogue Creamery Rogue Gold Pepper Spread Spicy, 8oz ($7.25) - This seems to be Rogue Creamery's version of pimento cheese, colored orange by addition of plenty of red colored piquillo peppers. That adds a delightful mild spiciness along with a flavor that is kind of fruity and very peppery, different from pimentos. The cheese is high quality and there isn't any liquid precipitating out of the spread. It's easy to spread while still having plenty of soft cheese shreds. It's a great replacement for pimento cheese and I ate most of it spread on biscuits and baguette slices. (5/5) PS: Make sure to look at the best buy dates. The first couple of containers in the front looked kind of funky with oils/liquids precipitating out of the cheese. Turns out those were expiring/best by the day I went. Further back there were much fresher looking ones packed the previous day, which is what I chose to buy. Wow. This place is so amazing. Stopped in for lunch and perused the small, neat store. I got a grilled cheese (the #1) and tomato soup - it was heavenly. Staff told me it's 2/3 cheddar, 1/3 blue, and honey to give it some sweetness. They also showed me their trophy for best blue cheese in the world - so cool! The most incredible, delicious cheese you will find. We literally only found out about this creamery after seeing a sign on the side of the freeway and ended up stopping by two weeks later on our way home. 100% worth the diversion. You can come here and eat a meal, get food to go, or take some cheese with you. They had two different grilled cheese options, so naturally we tried them both. The classic was of course delicious - fresh, flavorful cheese with those perfect cheese pulls. While I'm not a fan of fig, we also tried the special grilled cheese that had like a fig jam on it - was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it even with the figs. The sweetness complimented the cheese just right. And they also have tomato soup - delicious and a must with any grilled cheese. Definitely take home some of their cheese. We grabbed some of their special Rogue River Blue cheese. Not available year round, but it is the best blue cheese I've ever had. If you like blue cheese, this is a must buy. Saw this place on our drive up to Seattle and was intrigued. Apparently they have a very storied history about being one of the leading creameries in America. So stopped by here on a whim on the way back home, and glad that we did. Got the grilled cheese with the tomato soup as everyone recommended. And honestly one of the best grilled cheese I've ever had in my entire life. Also had to get some of the Rogue River Blue Cheese to take home, which is a limited release blue cheese (that I didn't know at the time was highly renown). World's best bleu cheese?! Sign me up! This was one place we had intended to visit while down in the Medford area, but I never looked up where it was located. Fortuitously, we happened to drive right by it on the way somewhere else, so I made a quick U-turn and parked in the adjacent gravel lot. Obviously, we were going to leave with a hunk of the Rogue River Bleu, which we did; a half pound runs you about $22, but absolutely worth it! We also "rescued" some garlic cheese from the bin on the counter, purchased a handy cheese knife, some crackers to spread everything on, and a couple of beverages, placing them in the cooler for the four-hour drive home. Happy to say that everything made it intact, and was still as tasty, potent, and fresh as as stinky cheese can be! We've been slowly rationing it out on all sorts of things, including the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches we had last night. Is there anything the blue cheese doesn't improve?! Lots of other snacks and treats are available here, such as chips, honey, hot sauce and the like. I YEARN FOR THIS GRILLED CHEESE!! We were in Ashland for the OSF and before we hit the road back down to San Francisco we had to make a pit stop at Rogue Creamery. Wife and I love cheese and we don't mind it FUNKY ;) It's been a week and I still think about this grilled cheese. Look, it's not covered in gold leaf, it doesn't have truffles and it doesn't cost $25 --- it's a freakin' deliciously approachable and affordable grilled cheese and we LOVED IT! Cute cheese shop/facility filled with tons of pre-packaged picnic items; including wine/beer. There's also a large window so you can watch them make the cheese! The staff were welcoming though I wish they were a bit less modest about their cheese. Not that I needed to be sold on it but as a first-timer I would have loved a more thorough run down on the whole operation and glorious selection. A regular walked in and was offered a sample, while the newbie (that's me) was left wondering which cheese(s) to pick. Neither here nor there, we had a great cheese experience. There were three grilled cheeses on the menu and the third was sold out (bummer as it had fig jam on it, mmmmm), so we opted for one of each of the other two (see pictures, Classic & Hopyard). At an average $6/sando these were FANTASTIC. Loaded with cheese, perfectly toasted, oooey-goooey with a smack of blue funk! They are cut in half, making it perfect to share :) Washed it down with a cold pilzner which was the perfect palate cleanser. If it weren't 100deg out that day we definitely would have added a tomato soup to the mix (sounded yummy). HOT TIP - if you're getting cheese to-go, like we did, be sure to be mindful of the moisture/liquid whey that the blue cheese will release. We didn't realize this and let's just say the car smelled like blue cheese for a few days (I could see some ppl liking this, lol). Luckily, the people behind the counter are very knowledgeable, patient and excited to have you try some cheese. Upon recommendation, I visited a couple days before Christmas 2019. It was a pleasure to be a customer of theirs. I might have been one of the only out-of-town visitors that afternoon. It seemed like everyone else kind of knew what they were doing. That said, a gentleman was offering samples of cheese and answering questions from the others. The store area was a bit cramped for the amount of customers, but it was the holiday season. I found all of the cheese samples to be most excellent! They had crackers and some fruit jam spread to pair with the cheeses. I remember sampling cheddar, and 3 different Bleu cheeses and loved each of them. I ordered a cheese sampler platter to go, and also a half pound of their international award winning Rogue River Blue cheese. Both were a hit at our family festivities. They also carry local honey and some local wine, but I didn't spend much time looking at their selections.
