I love Harry and David and there are no stores around me so imagine my surprise to see this. I was so excited to walk around and picked up my Asian pears - they are the best and my chocolate covered cherries - mouth watering goodness. Wish there was still one near me.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. I ordered a gift basket from Harry & David with next-day delivery, yet it didn't arrive until two days later. When it finally did show up, it was immediately obvious that something had gone wrong during shipping. The insulated shipping bag contained ice packs that had completely thawed, and as a result several of the chocolate items had melted. This was especially frustrating considering these products are marketed as premium gourmet gifts. The packaging was also unacceptable. The outer shipping box was badly beaten up, and the decorative metal basket inside had been bent during transit. To make matters worse, two items that were apparently supposed to be part of the gift basket weren't even packaged with the rest of the basket--they appeared to have simply been tossed loose into the box as an afterthought. I even reviewed my doorbell camera footage of the delivery. While I understand that Harry & David may rely on third-party carriers, the condition of the shipment and the delayed delivery reflected poorly on the overall customer experience. When a company promises overnight delivery of perishable or heat-sensitive products, customers shouldn't have to wonder whether the items will arrive in gift-worthy condition. After this experience, I looked through other Yelp reviews and was surprised to see that many customers have reported similar issues. I wish I had read those reviews before placing my order. Harry & David has built a reputation as a premium gift company, but this order fell well short of that standard. Between the missed delivery promise, thawed ice packs, melted chocolate, damaged packaging, bent gift basket, and sloppy presentation, this was not the quality I expected. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Harry & David based on my experience, and I won't be ordering from them again.

    The famous Royal Riviera pears.

Harry & David's was founded in Oregon by two brothers, Harry & David, in 1934. Their inspiration was to share with the world their exemplary Comice pears that they grew on their farm, which have been dubbed "Royal Riviera." Gift sets from Harry & David are popular, especially during the Holidays. On the website you'll find items for every budget & taste ranging from sweet treats to dinner feasts. They also offer flowers & spa gifts. (Side note: The company has been acquired by 1-800-Flowers.) Our office receives numerous gift baskets from Harry & David during the holidays. The pears are a staff favorite. The quality is superb and they are thoughtfully packaged. I typically don't like pears but I will eat these. I also puree them and use the pulp to make a pear martini. I absolutely love their Moose Munch Popcorn. It's addicting. The dark chocolate is my favorite. It's an indulgent treat that is hard to resist.

12/3/25- Received a Fed Ex notification that a shipment would be arriving... My Uncle (who lives in San Bruno) always sends the nicest gifts.. Arrived and packaged nicely! Perfect and crisp apples-( just ate one).. They will come in handy with the breakfast smoothies-.. Cheese is perfect timing for the soon to be turkey enchilada.. Plus I have a nice wooden crate- !!

    Moldy cherries

I received organic Fruit of the Month as a gift for the year. So far this year, 3 of the 7 shipments have been moldy, two of them completely inedible. Their online customer service is atrocious. I spent 30-45 minutes each time in attempt to get a replacement. After all that, this month's fruit is no longer available. In summary, unreliable product quality and very poor customer service.

This review is for their main store in Medford, Oregon. It seems like the one star reviews are for their mail order. I have a feeling, that most of the mail orders go very well, but people don't write reviews of those. But hey, my opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee...Aaaaanyway...... I had not been into a Harry and David store, since they closed them all due to the pandemic. They are starting to reopen them, and the Home store here in Medford has always been open. I have not been up here in years as well. It's just a fantastic store. All of the goodies that you could get in their gift baskets are available. They have a good fruit and vegetable section, a frozen food section, wine, and hard cider section, lots of. Gourmet goodies as well. My absolute favorite Harry and David product, is their "moose munch" gourmet popcorn. They have lots of different flavors, and it is so good Prices overall are reasonable, but they are definitely higher on the high-end items. Lobster pot pie, anyone? They do offer a military/veterans discount, Plus, as an added bonus, it's Oregon! You can still get your groceries in plastic bags, and also, NO SALES TAX!!! it's the little things, people...... They are always running specials, as well. I was there in late, January, so they we're still running a lot of after Christmas specials. A 5 pound box of their pears was running for only eight dollars, not a bad deal at all. I took a box to my sister down in Redding, and she said that they were delicious. I love this place, this store is the main reason I made a run up to Medford. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

The sympathy plant on their website vs what we received - very disappointed!! (Sept 2025)
    Hannah S.

Growing up, I remembered Harry & David always being a big deal - such a bougie gift. It's always been my go-to for sympathy gifts but after this last experience I think I may have to move on unfortunately. The snack basket was ok - definitely not the presentation quality it used to be - but the plant was so sad and definitely NOT how they present it on their website! My dear friend in Utah lost her father. So I ordered one of the sympathy baskets with their signature pears and lots of other snacks. The website photo is definitely presented much more beautifully than it actually arrives - but all the items were included and my friend loved the quality of the goodies. I also ordered a lilly flower bush in a ceramic pot with an angel ornament. My friend loved the gesture and loved the ornament. But the plant was so sad - the leaves were yellowing and the plant was way overgrown and unkept - and the pot they sent was too small for the plant itself. Very poor quality - I'm so embarrassed!! Ordering on the website as easy enough and they have lots of choices and options. My gift arrived speedily so that was no issue. I'm just very disappointed in the quality this time. I doubt I'll be ordering from them again. For the prices they charge, they need to do better.

I'll likely update this review but my initial assessment is that the pears look bad. I see lots of other complaints about the pears. Thankfully, this was a gift from work and not a gift I sent to someone in my family or friends. The pair I ate was good but it didn't look great. I'll update as I try the other items.

Harry and David were always my go to for gifts for family and friends. It's been years since I placed an order. My best friend Shirley has been through a lot lately with the loss of her only child. She has been so supportive and kind to me sending my daughter and me gifts during my recovery. I wanted to make her birthday next week special. So! Low and behold Harry and David had huge Holiday Gift Sets for 50% off! The downside is shipping was $30! Good news she received the gift very quickly! She took a picture but not of the fruit. I don't want to bug her for better photos. I do get nervous when packages are left on doorsteps. She was at work when it was delivered. When she got home she let me know she received it. So far she hasn't eaten anything because she said she is having fasting blood sugar test this morning and can't eat anything until afterwards! I'm hoping that the fruit is fresh and delicious. I'm still recommending Harry and David unless I am told by Shirley she has a problem with anything.

I think today's gift box is the best I've ever received. Besides the perfect pears and apples,an assortment of cheese, crackers and candies was exceptional. A special shout out to my Yelp friends from Ireland for the thoughtful gift.

    Sandy H.

I sent a gift basket to my son. It arrived with rotten pears and apples. I contacted customer service. They sent out a replacement. It arrived with rotten fruit, also. And they sent out the wrong pears. Not the gold wrapped ones. I called and requested a refund. Quite embarrassing for a Christmas present. They had absolutely no emotion that it was a horrible gift to receive. It must happen frequently. I have sent these type of gift baskets from them for years, with great fruit. Not ever again. Sad and disgusting. I would give NO stars, but you have to select at least one.

Thank you Lillie Belle for bringing so much joy and goodness to the world. Trust. See original review back in 2010 below: For me - chocolate is seeped in nostalgia. We sat down fast and ordered pretty quickly. I ordered a pesto bacon and egg biscuit sandwich it was 10/10. It is a small, intimate space where we were greeted with a big smile by the hostess and our waiter came by soon after we were seated. It was a chilly walk around the corner so I was looking for a hot coffee to warm me up. Having never been here before I opted for the special of the day, which was something with lavender in it, and I was surprised at the delicate way the latte both supported the robust coffee flavor and the delicate lavender addition. It was better than I anticipated and I knew that we had stumbled upon a gem of a spot that emphasized quality of what they serve. Now, for breakfast, I love a good gravy but I am always disappointed by my order. The country gravy is usually too thin, to bland, too chunky with some sort of meat product, and too small of quantity to really enjoy a good biscuit with it. With this skepticism in mind, I ordered the "The Works" assuming at the very least, the addition of fried eggs and ham were good enough to eat on its own when the gravy, which I also assume will disappoint me, runs dry. I apologize for my assumptions, ButterCloud Bakery, because I was served a thick, seasoned, peppery gravy and plenty of it. This is actually the best gravy I have ever ordered from a restaurant, if I was not traveling, I might have bought a few sides of this delicious concoction and brought it home for the next several mornings! Nothing skimpy on my plate. My husband ordered the beef and blue and devoured every last bite. I managed to steal a few bites off his plate and was pleasantly surprised, I did not expect to like it as much as I did. I stole a few more bites when he was in the bathroom! We left very satisfied with our meal, our drinks, and our service. Fast forward a few months later and we are traveling with my parents to California and we insisted that we stopped by ButterCloud Bakery to share our gem of a find. My mom considers herself quite the cook and she also was skeptical of the gravy. One bite and her eyes popped...she was also impressed. This time round I had the scone and gravy and enjoyed every last bite. My mom tried a specialty hot chocolate and I, again, had the latte special of the day, both were rich with flavor. Our second round at ButterCloud Bakery did not disappoint and we have decided it will be our go-to spot when we are in the area, there is still a lot of menu items to try!
