Dr. Chan is excellent and very professional. But his office reception staff is the worst. I called today for my eye contacts ordered 4 weeks ago, after I mentioned my name and the reason calling, the reception staff immediately put me on hold as she said she is going to checking my order. I wondered if she got my name right .... After couple minutes waiting, she said she can't find my order. I asked if she knew my name to make sure she checked for the right person. She said yes so I asked her to spell my name out and she gave me totally a different name. Then I told her my name and was put on hold again (I was kind of surprised as professional reception staff will normally ask you to spell your name to confirm, but she didn't). After another couple minutes waiting, she told me that she can't find the order for me. As I already felt that she was not doing the job right, I asked her how did she check and if the name she checked was right. She spell my name out and it was wrong AGAIN!!! What she was doing there? My go to optometrist retired and Roger's practice came up . He is old school practical and with so much experience offers great service for his prescriptions. The place looks messy but organized to meet his needs. I don't care about going to a fancy building but rather getting a good diagnosis of my eye conditions so this place is fine for my needs. read more

Went online on my insurance provider website and saw that Dr. Chan was near my home and was ecstatic! Calling and setting up an appointment was a breeze. The day of my eye exam Dr. Chan walked me through every little thing. I will admit, I was a little nervous since it had been almost 2 years since my last eye exam. I was frighten at the idea that my eye vision had gotten worst through the years. Luckily, Dr. Chan informed me in detail how my eye works and how my vision is. Reception staff are all A+! They are all nice and very informative. I even asked one of the girls for advice when it came to picking my glasses. I opted for a luxury brand which I love thus far! The best part is that the eyeglasses selection here is phenomenal! They have a wide selection for everyone and it only takes roughly 1 week. I tend to get nasty headaches whenever I go to the optometrist. I don't know if it's because the offices I've been to are just terribly stuffy and not well-lit, or what. Thankfully, this place was a little different! But that's not what I'll really discuss here this time. The people working at the front desk have always been extremely friendly whenever I called (which was about 3 times) and whenever I've gone to the office. Dr. Chan was very helpful, as I discussed my vision history (or at least what I could remember) and my concerns about having dry eyes. The eye exam was pretty normal, and one great thing was that they don't use that scary machine that blows air into your eyes. I hate that machine! Instead, they use this other thing that just gets really close to your eye in order to check the pressure. Thank goodness... Choosing out lenses took me an insanely long time for some reason, but the people working on front desk helped me figure out all my options and didn't try to empty my pockets (and wallet!). I bet they got pretty tired of me and my indecisiveness, but I'm thankful they were so helpful. read more

Dr. Chan helped me see. Before I went to his office, there was two of everything. This wasn't good unless i was looking at money in my wallet, it was great seeing double the cash. Driving was kind of a challenge. But I visited his office for the first time 3 years ago. I did a vision test and discovered that I needed glasses. I got them eventually. He's pretty reasonable, he gives discounts on the frames if you end up buying. He's pretty nice to talk too and makes your visit very comfortable. I'd recommend him. read more

They offer brands ranging from Versace, Gucci, Ray Bans, to sunglasses and a wide range of contact lenses. The front desk staff have always been friendly and accommodating. I brought my 2 sons to Dr. Chan for eye examinations as they both were last checked 2 years ago elsewhere. They both wear eyeglasses for near-sightedness. I observed that Dr. Chan was extremely thorough ... more so than their previous optometrist. Apart from determining their current refraction grade, he also assessed for their color vision, reading vision, peripheral vision, eye pressure and examination of their retina (after having placed pupil-dilating medication). Wow, that's as thorough as it can get! Dr. Chan is easy to talk to and his pleasant demeanor makes it so much easier to do so. The front desk assistant, Jennifer, was efficient and helpful. When I tried to make an appt with Dr. Chan this week, I was told that Dr. Chan is out of the country and there is a replacement doctor from another office that is seeing his patients. Their office opens from 9 to 5 and when I tried to make an appt around 4 to 4:30pm, their next available appt was in two weeks. There are better Opt. offices in Dublin. read more

I recently switched to Dr. Chan from an office that I have been with for a couple of years that was more local to me. As much I didn't need to move I didn't feel I was getting the proper care. I think in todays age of technology, automation and convenience that somehow we have lost value in someone knowing you as a human and not a file number. Dr. Chan has perfected the lost art of patient care and for the first time in a long time have felt like someone was really interested in making me better. I've been coming to Dr. Chan for the past two years now (ever since I got VSP). I have been nothing but pleased with his service. He's always nice, likes to small talk about life, and isn't pushy on selling product. What I really like is that his office is open until 7pm on Fridays, something that is truly uncommon for small eye shops. I am writing this on behalf of my soon to be 12 year old daughter who has seen Dr. Chan for 3 years now. I have worn glasses and contacts for more than 20 years now and have seen many doctors as a young adult, however, I have never met anyone as throrough as he was. Dr. Chan was not only professional and precise, but also a perfectionist in his craft. He found that there might have been a concern and wanted to look into a genetic disease that my daughter had textbook symptoms of. He went beyond what I would imagine any doctor would do and took the extra step to book an appt. for us with a colleague of his for a second opinion, accompanying us on the visit. He was right and I am truly in debt to him for his expertise in this field. Not too many doctors would have done what he did and we are thankful for that! read more

I've been visiting Dr. Chan as my primary optometrist for the past 9 years. He is incredibly professional, friendly, helpful and, most importantly, genuine. I never felt that he was trying to upsell products and services to me or was trying to mislead me on my vision needs. He's direct when it comes to asking questions about habits that may be exacerbating a vision problem, any new vision problems that have come up since the last exam, but has never made me feel uncomfortable while in his office either. When I moved up to Davis for college 7 years ago, I found a new optometrist in Sacramento and Dr. Chan had no problems moving my critical info to the new optometrist. Unfortunately, my experience with the new optometrist and another one after were both less than satisfactory, as they were constantly upselling unnecessary services and lying to do so. (for example, trying to sell the medical need for polished edges and laminated lenses) I have since returned to Dr. Chan, despite living up in the Sacramento region. I know this has ended up sounding like an advertisement, but Dr. Chan is a great optometrist and I've a new appreciation for his friendliness, professionalism, and skill. If I could give zero stars I would. They needed to keep my glasses to put the new lenses in and what was supposed to take 5-6 days ended up taking 13 days. Except for Sundays, I called everyday to see if they were ready and explained that I couldn't see very well without my glasses. They never apologized and in fact wanted to tell me how it could take up to a week. So why then did it take 13 days?! When they were finally ready and l came in they never addressed how long it took even though they knew I was upset. Maybe they have so much business that they don't have to reach out when there is an issue with a patient and they don't need patients like myself to come back for repeat business and to refer them even more business. In fact, I will not only not recommend them I will tell all my friends and family where not to go. read more

Dr. Chan is one of the best optometrists I've ever been to. He has a very pleasant manner. Most importantly, he is very thorough, taking the required time to methodically check everything and explain what he is doing, unlike past optometrists who rush through the exam and end up with a faulty prescription. Dr. Chan gave me trial lenses and asked me to come back in a week to make sure they worked before making a final prescription. This is one of the worst places I have been for vision care. The women behind the front desk were very unprofessional. They were irritated that we were trying on the glasses to purchase. The older woman with the short hair was raising her voice at us for asking an insurance question. Worst customer service I have seen. I have never been so offended in my life. The receptionist at this place is incredibly rude and fixated on some pathetic power trip. I called to make an appointment because my vision was shaking so bad that I couldn't read. After getting my name, she proceeded to tell me that because I was a no show for two appointments, which I was not, that I needed to call the morning I wanted an appointment and hope they could get me in, but they had no time for me that day. I then asked if she could recommend anyone to me since I was new to the area and she told me to use the internet in a snotty tone. I again repeated my symptoms because I couldn't believe that with these symptoms an eye doctor wouldn't want to see me and she just repeated herself and said if I wanted to get in I would just have to keep calling in the mornings and hope for a cancellation. It was like this lady was trying to punish me because they had record of me being a no show. I tried to explain to her that I had called to cancel my appointment and had not had time to call back and reschedule so if I was a no show it was because someone in that office scheduled me without notifying me. FYI, I am an R.N. and symptoms like this should NEVER be ignored. I don't know if this doctor if even aware of how horrible his staff, and that they are actually turning customers away in this economy. I DO NOT recommend going here, unless you want to deal with this receptionist's power trip. Get a life lady. I called somewhere else, on a friends recommendation, and was scheduled immediately! I've been to Dr. Chan over 2-3 years, for myself and my kids. The initial experience started out good, but my recent experiences have made me want to look elsewhere for my next optometrist visit. The two main reasons are that: 1) things always cost more than quoted. If I want to add AR coating or some feature to my purchase, they tell me $, and I approve it at the desk. When I pick up the product, it's always quoted amount + $10 or $20. 2) I ordered glasses with special lenses, and I received a call from Dr. Chan telling me that he would not be able to get the paperwork that certified the special lens material. I tell him, "fine" because I want to trust him and not be a hassle. When I picked up the glasses, they did not come with AR coating, but the manufacturer specs for the lenses clearly state that the AR coating is INCLUDED on the lenses before they even send it to the lab. In fact, the associate doctor, who was standing around when she overheard my order, said, "Doesn't that come with AR coating?" So, not only did I have to add on the AR coating at extra cost (of course, it was MORE than quoted), I also don't think I actually received the special lenses I ordered. I got the basic polycarbonate material at an highly inflated price. The trust has been lost, and I won't go back. read more

Dr. Chan is wonderful! I've been going to him for years, and wouldn't go anywhere else. He's the best eye doctor around here. I've always had trouble with my contacts in the past and he was able to make it so that contacts work much better for me. I have to agree with some of the other people who reviewed this place. I took off one star for the staff. That's not to say that all his staff is rude or incompetent, but I've certainly seen my share of rude and incompetent workers there. When I got my first pair of glasses here about two years ago, I told one of the girls that the frames did not fit me well. Her response to me was "It's like a pair of shoes, as you wear it, you'll stretch them out." I went home so angry that day, it made me not want to go back. I've been back multiple times since then, but I always ask for Lisa or Shanon. They're both very pleasant, experienced and do a wonderful job.
