My Tundra's temperature was jumping up and down like an early-stage COVID-19 fever, and I thought my thermostat was probably shot to shit, or worse. Turns out it was just the gaskets on the thermostat housing. Rod's fixed it for about a buck thirty, and I was mighty pleased. What really impressed me was sitting there watching the owner explain to an older gentleman what was probably wrong with his cooling system and how he intended to trouble-shoot it to make sure he kept the cost to a minimum. NO STARS unless you like being charged for services that are not done. Took a radiator in to have it rodded out and a tank replaced. They charged us for the tank and all replacement parts, along with the cleaning and rodding out. When we got it home and lifted the radiator to reinstall, out poured green antifreeze (Red Flag #1); Owner had stated that he flow tested the radiator and it was "clean", a flow tested radiator does not have antifreeze to pour out (Red Flag #2); then after looking into the bottom port there were no internal scratch marks from being rodded out (Red Flag #3); We called the owner back the following morning, asked him what he glow tests his radiators with he stated he "cannot answer that" (Red Flag #4); We took radiator to a completely different shop morning after picking radiator up from Rod's, shop number 2 flow tested radiator first thing and found it was plugged, they had to use acid to unclog and thoroughly clean the radiator, they got excessive dirt and bugs and debris out of the radiator (Final Red Flag); We then called Rod's to inform them that we believed they charged us for a service that was not actually completed, they acted highly offended, but could not provide proof that the service was indeed completed let alone answer questions about the steps of the supposedly done service. Further more, after facts were presented and a lawsuit implied, they did refund the money but not until we had to use our own receipt to tell them how much they had charged us because they had "misplaced" the receipt from the day before. #suspicious Rod's Radiator was established in 1978 by Mr. Rod Forseth and was know for his quality work. Don't let today's Rod's Radiator fool you. They bought the name but they are not continuing the quality. GO ELSEWHERE! read more

Outstanding customer service. They are the best U-Haul dealer in town. It's a small place and not too fancy, but it gets the job done. Closed on the weekend so make sure to get your van on Friday. Or make sure you know how to work a lock box so you don't end up disgruntled like the 1 star review guy. So easy to work with and since they are a small family business, you get personal service and they are a long time local Redding family so their word means something. I got to talking with the owner and he has a ton of connections and customers that trust him with their cars and equipment. He has worked on radiators big and small. Rented a U-Haul from them & they went above and beyond. I needed a fuse for my trailer hitch brake lights. they helped track down the issue gave me the fuse all at no cost. on top of that, I had the wrong ball locked in my hitch when I arrived & they helped resolve that at no cost as well. great people. very satisfied. read more

I had my AC serviced it was a quick easy process and they replaced my cabin filter while there. I called on a radiator price for my husbands car and they were super kind so I got a price on my AC recharge. It turns out that he didn't need a radiator but I'm glad I called, my AC had been working well for over a month so I'm happy to say I'll use this local been there for as long as I can remember company again. read more

First of all let me start by praising rod and his team for saving the day. What was supposed to be a safe and innocent road trip from San Diego to Oregon (to see the solar eclipse)in our newly owned 1989 dodge b250 safari van.. In a slight turn of events our trip quickly turned into a detour in Redding when our beloved van started turning coolant into sludge .. causing the temperature to reach uncomfortable temps as we climbed further .. Frantically we called every place we could and they could not guarantee us anything for days ... we finally got a hold of rod .. he said he could work on our vehicle ASAP.. his calm and knowledgeable demeanor were enough to calm our ensuing anxiety .. I have a mechanic back home who literally has done tons of repairs but I guess he missed this major one .. rod inspected the radiator, diagnosed it in a matter of minutes .. an expert of radiators he was able to recommend that we had the wrong radiator cap on .. along with 30 years of built up crud and erosion that caused the sludge along with the problems with cooling .. he guaranteed that he and his guy's would pull out the radiator, power wash it and do a full flush in 3 hours .. he called in 2 1/2 .. said he had 3 guys staggered through their lunches to finish it ..... what a guy! If I could have posted with No Star, I would have!!! Tried to rent a uhaul through them... worst experience ever!!! The place looks like a dump, and no help to get the truck. Four trucks available and only two lock boxes... once the boxes were opened by two other renters, the boxes would not open. The business would not answer the phone so over an hour of our day was lost. Uhaul changed our location and we were able to go somewhere who valued customer service. Do your self a favor, stay away from Rod's Radiator!!! read more

I didn't get my radiator fixed there but I did rent a U-Haul truck. The person who had the truck that I had rented had an emergency so the truck wasn't going to arrive on time, but Rod's Radiator quickly found me another one! They are very helpful, communicative, friendly, and I would go back there in a heartbeat! I had a radiator rebuilt a year ago from Rod's radiator shop. Since then the shop had changed owners. My radiator developed a leak in the bottom tray and I brought it to them. Not only did they honor the work from the previous business owner, they repaired it for a very minimal cost. The owner is extremely professional and very good at his trade. Brought in my 2000 isuzu rodeo from overheating and had it towed over to Rods radiators, they helped and talked us through the whole process and it ended up just being a tube knocked loose and was only about a 65$ fix (much less than we were expecting to pay). I got my car back the same day and on top of all that I was running late and showed up 20 mins after closing and the lovely lady behind the counter was nothing but patient and understanding! This type of family touch is especially important when your car breaks down on a Thursday gets towed on a Friday and you need it before the weekend starts, otherwise I would've had to wait till Monday to have a working car! When the heater core in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler failed I discovered that the job requires removing the dashboard to gain access and is a labor intensive job. As a result some shops will refuse the work. Other shops have very high labor charges. I am happy to report that Rod's Radiator in Redding CA is one of the last old school radiator shops and is not only familiar with what is entailed to replace the heater core in a Jeep Wrangler, their labor rates are fair and the work is done properly. read more

Bought a Honda CRV from the owners son, Joel. He related that the vehicle "had been in the family for years and was well maintained". So convincing that we bought the vehicle without having it checked by our mechanic. Our bad.Ten days and $5,000.00 later ( accelerator pedal position sensor, clutch, ECU, crankshaft seal axle, plugs, valves, AND replacing the leaking AC suction hose and removing the de-slugger that was improperly installed), we have a nice car that will never be worth the cost of repairs. When Joel at Rod's radiators was contacted, he denied knowing about any of the vehicle problems. We, (myself, my husband and three kids) were on our way home from a camping trip in Oregon when just outside of Redding our radiator blew. We called Rods from a gas station. Initially the woman who answered the phone told us they were 7 days out on any repairs. However, when my husband explained the situation they told us to come down and they could at least try and look at it. These gentleman went above and beyond. When we arrived, they took a look and gave us a spot to park our travel trailer. They got to work immediately and fixed the radiator within a couple of hours - enough so we could at least get our truck and trailer back home (another 3.5 hours away). I replaced my radiator with these guys it was the price I expected and all se Med good until about 1 month later I got a bad radiator leak again so I called them and had to go back multiple times until they finally changed a plug that they should have replaced the first time I went. It's still been leaking and when I brought it in a guy came out usin his phone flash light looked in there for less then a minute and said he didn't see a leak and my car wasn't over heating so it's fine. Well I had a mechanic friend look at my car and he said they didn't put things back on correctly and that it basically looked like they threw it in carelessly so it wouldn't fall out and called it good. I will never be going here again I don't have enough money to be throwing it away on people that don't do their jobs correctly he first time. read more

Appeared to have a radiator leak on our way back to Portland from CA ( but it was actually the beginning of a leaking head gasket). They thoroughly checked out the cooling system. Finding no problem with the cooling system, it cost us just a very reasonable charge to check it out. My engine started overheating. They were able to work me in immediately. They quickly found a pinhole leak in one of my heater hoses. I had to wait while they got the right hose from a parts house (there's a decent diner within walking distance), but as soon as they had the part they got it installed in my van in only about half an hour. They charged less than the going labor rate! I should have had them replace the other hoses too, and the radiator flushed while they had the engine compartment opened up. Oh well, I had it done a couple of months later. read more

A Google User 3 years ago I went to Rod's Radiators when my car overheated while on the way to Oregon. They were recommended by a local oil change place, and at the time I thought they were my saviors. They told me the radiator needed to be rodded out. I was stuck in Redding overnight with my daughter and niece. The next morning this shop started the repair work. After 6 hours, they told me the job was done, showed me some "before and after" pictures and sent me on my way. 2 years later, my car starts having the exact same problem, my husband takes it to a local repair shop, and he tells them its been rodded out once in the past. The repair tech tells my husband, he will do his best to rod it out, but that on occasion some of the aluminum tabs will break off when pulling the end caps off and if that occur's we will have to replace the entire unit. Upon further inpsection, the tech tells my husband that the radiator has never been rodded out, and it sounds like the prior company just flushed out the debris and sent me on my way. I suppose I was lucky to get 2 years out of it, but how callous of them to take advantage of a woman out of town with 2 small children with her, and to send me on my way out of state telling me they had fixed my problems. read more

Rod did us a huge favor in August 2013 by replacing our radiator that blew about 30 miles outside of Redding. He stayed open past business hours and really helped us in a bind. I was quite happy with the work he did. The low rating comes from our experience with this shop last week (June 2014). While driving to Southern California, the engine began to overheat. We took it to a shop in Irvine and they said it was a faulty cap on the radiator that caused the overheating and ruined the radiator. I called Rod's and was told that there was a 1 year warranty on the radiator. I spoke with Rod later and he told me he would not refund us for the radiator because it was the cap that was faulty. He said since the radiator was not bad he would not honor the warranty, even though the cap he installed caused the issue in the first place. The mechanic in Irvine called Rod and they spoke about the issue. I spoke with Rod later and he still wouldn't budge. I asked him to pay for just the part, not the labor or anything else and he said he wouldn't do it. I was dismayed that he would claim a one year warranty and, when a piece he installed malfunctioned and caused more damage, he would choose to ignore his warranty. It was really shocking and disappointing. All in all, he was a big help when he put the radiator in. But I would not trust him to honor any sort of warranty he may claim.
