Sub King of Mechanicville is a good quick place to stop for a tasty sub. I can recall stopping at…read moreSub King in Cohoes for turkey subs a long time ago, back in the 1990s before a fire happened there in 1997 (I won't go into detail, but it made the local news). Sub King now offers 12" cold subs for $5 (plus tax), competing with the Subway a block away. Besides the made to order subs, Sub King offers pizza, appetizers, pasta entrees, grilled sandwiches, salads, dinner plates, and cold drinks. Subway does not offer a footlong turkey sub for $5, but Sub King does, which was the reason I decided to stop here for lunch recently. The service was quick and friendly. I had a 12" Turkey Sub ($5.35 with tax) which was well made and not messy and had smoked turkey breast, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, American cheese, and lots of mayo on a very firm sub roll. I was already full after eating half the sub, so I had a turkey sub again for dinner.

Luckily for the folks opening Classic Crust at the prior location of the old Jonesville Store…read moreduring the "pause" for the coronavirus pandemic, they have their mobile pizza oven to park in the lot of their future bricks and mortar location. And while renovations are proceeding inside the building, we the customers still have the ability to enjoy some very good woodfired pizza. From their menu of over a dozen specialty 12 inch pizzas we decided to try a Sausage, Peppers & Onions ($13) and a Fuji Apple & Brie with honey butter thyme drizzle ($16). We figured the SP&O would allow a fair comparison to more typical pizzas while the FA&B would show their ability to improvise. The dough is good quality, tasty and has a nice chew. I might consider requesting future pizzas to be left in the oven just a little longer to get more char and blistering, but that's a very minor point. The sausage has a nice flavor and the peppers and onions are grilled/sautéed for a nice effect. The only downside for me on this pizza was that the peppers had an off flavor of being cooked over gas. The honey butter thyme drizzle obviously adds an additional sweetness to the thin sliced Fujis and it might be considered by some to be a dessert pizza. But the balance of sweetness is just right in my opinion and the drizzle creates a nice glaze as the pizza cools. I'm truly looking forward to when the "pause" will end and Classic Crust will be able to allow customers inside their non-mobile location.

Once again, we ordered a half tray of the Eggplant Parmesan for a party. It is incredible because…read morenot only is it not greasy, the thin slices of eggplant practically melt in your mouth. No one makes it better! And the quality is consistent. A week ahead, we order either a half tray or a full tray depending on the number of guests. In either case, leftovers are welcome because it reheats beautifully. I am an Italian-American who cooks, and I say making excellent Eggplant Parm is not easy. Even if you cut the eggplant with a Slicer, it is an art to fry it without it becoming greasy because eggplant is like a sponge. Plus it is takes skill to prepare it with the right amount of cheese. Capri Eggplant Parm is perfection. It slices into well defined pieces. It pairs well with Italian Rolls or Italian bread. The Sementelli family has owned and operated Capri since 1973. They are known for their sheet pan C.O.B aka cheese on the bottom pizza which stands out and was good. I also enjoyed their antipasto salad and the vinaigrette was tasty. Lastly, as I looked around they seem to have a loyal following and I dare say many regulars. It's definitely hustle and bustle here but the staff is friendly and they make you feel right at home.
