HORRIBLE. This is not a handyman. This is a call center that REFERS you to a handyman, which…read moremeans the quote you receive will include a markup for them transferring your message. Also, one minute they say they are located at 8th and D, SE, and then they say they are in Logan Circle. Spoiler alert: They are at neither. It is some guy at the other end of the phone just taking your name and number. "John" called me back from a 410 number. I provided detailed info to 1) "re-seat my chimney damper plate" which takes less than five minutes (maybe less than one), and 2) to "drive three screws into a loosened piece of aluminum flashing" at my roof line. I sent a photo, and this is about 15 minutes on a ladder after backing the truck right up to the house. Well, John told me this could cost up to $500.00. That's more than $1,000 an hour for less than 30 minutes of work. John is a con artist, and so is this stupid referral company called Capitol Hill Handyman Solutions. It's a racket.

We created a project on Yelp, and Juan responded with a genuine reply, having clearly read our request and reviewed our pictures. We set up a time for a quote, and Juan arrived promptly as discussed. We will absolutely call Juan again for any repairs around our house.

I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.
