Very fair!…read more Had Doug do a fairly extensive project requiring routing for pickups (adding a MM pickup in the sweet spot and moving the treble side P pickup up) and a separate passive (for the P pickup) and active MM preamp all in a P bass cavity, with a 3-way selector for the MM pickup (single, series, parallel). And it came out BEAUTIFULLY! Highly, highly recommend. Watch out for luthiers that have an "open checkbook" policy, i.e. you drop off a project and are hit with the price at the end without any estimate or notice of exceeding the estimate. Another well-known luthier operates that way, which led me to Dmara. Doug will give you an upfront and honest estimate and contact you if he might go over before doing the work.

The staff there was amazing, considerate and patient. We ended up with an extremely nice viola for less than what I had initially figured. They made sure it fit my wife to a Tee and everything was of good or excellent quality. The instructor I had brought with me was very impressed and said afterwards to me she had never been treated so well nor was a potential customer treated so well in all of her years teaching. Yes it was a 100 mile one trip for us from Columbus one way but worth it. Will be back again to buy a viola for myself soon.

To hold the strings in place? Then he told us 'You know you have to cut that down, right?(what a douche bag)' We told him that we have a luthier that will cut it for us. Apparently, that just offended his soul. He points to a frame on the wall and said, 'You see that? That says I know more than anyone else in the city!' It was an Associate's degree from the University of Indiana (Juilliard for meth addicts). The rest of the experience was basically him telling us how he doubts our project is professional (although we make more money than probably 70% of musicians-- not to be arrogant, I just know how this business is), how all the great symphonies come to him, and all the local schools bands. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this guy absolutely knows what he's talking about. However, if you play anything other than stuffy classical music-- find it somewhere else or online. There are PLENTY of places that'll cut a bridge for you. I guess he's just opposed to new customers.

Slow service, which I wouldn't mind had the work done been quality and it is not! I took my Tele in…read moreto get upgraded locking tuners, owner said a few days. I called 3 days later, they said a few more days (the tuners holes already existed but needed to be enlarged and small tuner peg holes needed to be added). Ended up being 2 weeks! On pickup day, there was clamp marks/Indentations on the body that caused damage. The owner said he'd fix it but it will take another week. I can only hope the finish looks the same as I when I brought it in undamaged. If he was to busy to do a job in a timely manner then don't take the customers guitar for 3 or more weeks. I'll update next week and revise my review, I just want my guitar back.
