This place is becoming more of a joke every day. Yesterday, I stopped at the Florence, Kentucky store to pick up a drum accessory and to check out other items I was looking to potential get. I walked in and five employees were huddled together. One of them said hello, but none of them asked if they could help me or what brought me in. I walked into the drum section, and of course there was no one there to help me. I looked behind the counter at the accessories and saw what I needed (a ring for a kick drum port). I stood there for about five minutes, and not one of them came to check on me, or to see if I needed help. I finally just went behind the counter and got what I needed. I stood behind the counter for about another five minutes, checking out the other accessories. Then I went into the cymbal area (I'm always on the lookout for a good-sounding cymbal, new or used, doesn't matter). I found a stick and started checking out the cymbals. I'm an aggressive player, so I was definitely hitting them loud enough for the employees to hear. No one ever came back. Then I walked around the rest of the store. I found a used monitor in the live sound section that I was interested in, but there was no one to hook it up....so scratch that. Then I walked into the used guitar section (I also play guitar), walking right by employees; not one said a word to me. I then walked to the checkout counter, laid the kick ring down, and told the guy I was going to leave it there and walk around some more. He never even acknowledged me. After about another five minutes of being ignored, I had had enough. When I approached the checkout counter to pay for the ring, the guy asked, "Did you find everything you needed?" I said, "Why do you care?" He laughed. I said, "I've been walking around this place for about 40 minutes or so, and not one person asked if I needed help. The place is in shambles, with stuff thrown all over the place; no wonder Guitar Center is in trouble." He apologized and said, "I know, it's terrible. I used to work here when the place was a lot better, now they just have the two of us working here tonight, I'm really sorry." I guess the other three left. That might have been true, but there were only three customers in the entire place, including me, and they weren't helping any of us. So, instead of standing around, yapping, they could be straightening the place up, getting stuff off the floor, or at least finding out if the few customers they have need help. With crappy service like that it's completely understandable that companies like Sweetwater and Amazon are leaving you guys in the dust. Who wants to subject themselves to that kind of experience?

I left the store with what appeared to be a new guitar.

I'd try one of the other Cincinnati music shops like Mehas Music. Willis has always been one…read moredisappointment after another for me and my family. I've tried to do business with them and have never been successful. They declined a brass repair of mine at one of their instrument repair locations which is now closed, but was very unprofessional about it. Last week my 13 year old and I spent several days choosing a new trigger trombone for him stepping up from his entry level trombone. We ended up choosing one on the Willis Music website with his middle school band instructor's approval and placed the order with Willis online late one evening. This was one within our budget and checked all of our boxes plus it was new...we thought we were going to need to take our chances on a used model. Credit card was charged. I woke up the next morning to my son still super excited asking when it would arrive, and that he had already been awake two hours watching videos and reading about it. I was really excited for him. Later that morning I received an email that the order had been canceled and a refund would be issued with no alternatives offered. They said it had been discontinued, but the manufacturer still makes this model just with a new backpack style case which is the one they displayed in their listing. They ended offering to get us that same trombone we had purchased (because it wasn't discontinued), but it would be $600 more than I had paid on their website the night before. They also assured me this $600 additional was a great deal. Such a scam and a waste of time. They certainly don't attempt to make things right in any way...unreal let down for my son. I wouldn't trust them and especially their website/online ordering. This also had our budget tied up in the authorization on my card for a week. We ordered a used trigger trombone on eBay, and will be taking it to Mehas Music to have it checked out, cleaned and any repairs.

They also run a fabulous program to rehab old instruments and make them available to students who cannot afford one on their own. We're lucky to have this gem supporting school band programs.
