They are very helpful and knowledgeable about bikes and I would fully recommend them, even for service for a bike you didn't buy there

They tuned up both my bikes in one day. Giant road bike and schwinn hybrid. They also changed the bike chain on one and the brakes on the other. They were also able to get the handle bar on my road bike to sit higher. They were awesome and I highly recommend! read more

I've had better customer service from the KGB when I was in Russia. I was literally standing in front of the plate glass for their storefront. I called 3 times. They never answered. Finally I yelled thru the door to ask if they had a 24 inch bike inner tube they shook their heads no. I understand it's a pandemic. But damn, is it that hard to answer a phone? At least to acknowledge me standing in front of their view? Must be nice to be able and run a business profitably and have less than zero customer service. Highly recommend Velocity Bike and Bean. Just got my sons bike back they kept it for 2 weeks previously stated it need a replacement. Came to pick it up and they were ok with handing me back the bike with no new replacement and still ok with changing me for it. This place is a joke. Don't waste your time here. read more

They had my bike for two weeks to do about 1 hour work and it still was not done. The guys didn't seem to have a sense of urgency or care that they did not keep their promise that it would be done in about 10 days. I picked it up and took it to Trek just down the road. read more

I'll be honest, because of the prices I was very reluctant to spend money here. As a matter of fact, I walked out of that store years ago after perusing a few bikes. I'm glad I came back! I walked in awhile back and dropped off a Shwinn hybrid. Ben did a "tune-up" on it for me. Did 50 miles at Little Miami Scenic Trail with that bike. Damn near killed me. After seeing so many other "real" bikers pass me with ease I made up my mind. My first bike was a Cannondale Synapse. I wasn't too happy with that bike. Went back two weeks later and upgraded to a Specialized Tarmac. Yeah. I went from a $299 Wal-mart hybrid to a $2,100 professional road bike. I see and feel where that money goes. Huge difference. Ben was great at helping me understand what I was getting into and never once pressured me into buying anything. He actually turned me away from a $2,800 bike! It took some time to get use to these bikes. I had pain in my back, knees, butt, neck and wrists. I tried to be cheap and that was a mistake on my part. I got smart and bought biker shorts, shirts and gloves. After just a few weeks of riding and getting my posture correct my body started to adjust. Ben gave me pointers on how to sit in the saddle and a few other little tricks to help. I came in at least once a week and not once did anyone mind me there asking questions. It wasn't long before I started riding like a pro. Best upgrade was purchasing Specialized shoes and clips. I took Ben's recommendations and it paid off. My speed and endurance really enhanced. I was able to do a century on Little Miami Scenic trail. Understand, it takes time, patience and commitment. If anyone is trying to recommend you something, it's because they know you will not enjoy your experience if you lack the proper accessories. It's a serious sport! I am a regular at the Erlanger, KY location. Ben is the person I deal with. I was referred to this place by my neighbor, who used to bike competitively. Ben knows his job and is fantastic at getting me what I need. If you know exactly what you want, and they don't have it there, they will special order it. I am going to upgrade my bike this year, and I will buy it from Ben at Montgomery in Erlanger. I have been to other shops, but this is by far, the best experience I have ever had. I have recommended Montgomery Cyclery to all my friends. I have a 14 year old who is, believe me when I say this, extremely hard on bikes. He's been jumping everything with a curb, stair, ramp, or incline since he was 10. After popping numerous tires, bending rims, braking frames, etc., we decided to upgrade to a bike that could survive my son. When I first saw the prices compared to what we had purchased in the past from retail/big box stores, I was shocked and didn't think it would be worth it. However, when you replace enough tubes, tires, rims, etc... you begin to see the advantage of paying more for shocks, better frames, etc. We ended up going with a Giant mountain bike at about $500. The sales person recommended (especially after hearing about my son's destruction of past bikes) the VIP/3yr maintenance plan. It has been a life saver for me as a single mother with little mechanical experience and we have gotten every cent out of it and more! EVERY time they have had to fix something, they have taken the time to explain to my son how to fix things, different maintenance recommendations, etc, to help him learn how to get the most out of his bike. They joke with him, and always go out of their way to offer advice. He recently joked he was missing the "guys at the shop" and may need to break something just to see them again (which I quickly offered we can just shop there without breaking anything!). We have since bought two other bikes from this same shop for myself and my daughter, just because of the excellent customer service we have received from every member of the staff at this store. You can buy a bike anywhere, but you can't get true, heart-felt and knowledgeable service like this from any other store I am aware of. It truly makes all the difference. read more

I went to Montgomery Cyclery, Erlanger to purchase an innertube for a bicycle. I was not sure what size to purchase. The only clerk in the store was working on a bicycle in the next room, and after a brief glance, he ignored my existence. I combed the shelves until I found a tube that seemed closest to the one I had, took it to the counter and...waited for 10 minutes. Mr. Clerk continued ratcheting away at his bike and never said a word. Finally I tossed my almost-purchase onto the counter roughly and exited the store. It may have improved since I was there, in all fairness. It has been awhile and I have never gone back, nor will I ever. read more

This review encompasses a few years of dealing with Montgomery Cyclery. Initially I purchased a Townie Electra 21D with accessories totaling around $1200. It was my first really nice bike and I didn't know what I was doing. I opted to include the 3 year VIP service package. Six months after my purchase I realized that there was the letter "T" on my frame. I found out that meant that the model I had was a "Tall" model for people over 6'2". I am 5'9"!! The bike does not properly fit me. A specialized bike from an authorized dealer and they couldn't tell me that. I talked to Ben at Dixie highway about my issue and requested a replacement since I was sold an improper unit. Not only was he unhelpful, but he was rude and refused to even let me speak with anyone else about the issue. I cannot even begin to express how rude he is. It's impressive. Now, unfortunately I have been married into the Montgomery Cyclery experience since I paid for the VIP service. I have had to take them to their stores which make me disgusted to even go into from my experience. Even though, I was trying to be committed to taking advantage of a service I already paid for, so I called today to get my bike in before a benefit ride coming up. I spoke with Ken, or maybe it was Ben again and I misunderstood him. Either way, it was another extremely rude person. When I asked if he could look up to see if I was still covered under the VIP service he responded with "Well, we haven't really had it around that long so you should be fine. But if you are really that concerned then I can look it up". So I then asked when I can get my bike tuned up. He said "we don't take appointments". I then asked how long it would take to get it back. He responded with "I can't really tell you. But the sooner you bring it in the sooner you get it back". I have worked in customer service in some capacity my whole career. This is definitely not VIP service being provided. Even if it was, it is for a bike that doesn't even properly fit me that Ben refused to help me rectify. I hope NOBODY else makes the mistake of looking for a high end bicycle from a low performance dealer. There are plenty of other options out there now. It is becoming a tighter market now with new places opening, and Montgomery Cyclery will be down a few less stores within a few short years. Especially employing rude and incompetent employees like Ben on Dixie Highway. I'm opting to pay $70 to get my bike tuned up somewhere else just so I don't have to deal with this place anymore. I will never go back. The sale is all they want. I am 6'8" 265 lbs. Ben told me 61 cm would work, just swap out the neck and the seat post...another $300 on top of $900. Rode it for 6 months my body was falling apart. Winter shut my riding down for the year. Did some research over the winter. I am riding a 68 cm now with no pain. I don't care if they have it, I will drive to Performance or order on line. To add insult to injury my wife got a bike at the same time,.,Ben again ..,to small again and she is riding mine and enjoying riding, $3000+ on bikes and equipment. Do your research on line.
