I own more than 20 guitars. When I heard about restoration guitar I was pretty excited. I read the reviews here and had the expectation that I would receive great service. This wasn't the case. Thankfully, I only brought them 2 guitars to start. A simple Seagull 12-string guitar for general setup and one of my favorite vintage acoustic guitars (1970's Hofner) for some bridge work. SEVERAL months later when I went to pick them up I noticed that my Hofner had a great deal of damage to the finish (all around the bridge) that was not there before. The 12 string was fine but he charged me twice the price he quoted me. He told me it would be $75 but instead charged me $150. I paid for my service in full but asked that they please keep the Hofner guitar and make it right. At least 4 more months went by without a word from them. When I finally got the word that my guitar was ready I rushed over there to pick it up. It's difficult to describe the emotions that I felt when I saw my guitar in worse shape than it was when I brought it in. The interior of the guitar was absolutely filled with particles of sawdust and broken glue/wood chips (they did not even take the time to vacuum that out). The finish has several chips and cracks and peeling from the bridge work that they did and it looks like they made no effort to repair it whatsoever. When I played the guitar- it now has fret buzz and a few bad frets that choke out which it absolutely NEVER had before. I cannot recommend these guys even though there are several great reviews here. If you cherish your guitar I suggest you find a different luthier. In summary: - Extraordinarily slow. - Did not honor original quote/overcharged me - Damaged my guitar and made no effort to make it right. (We're talking about a guy that fixes guitars made no effort to fix my guitar) I walked out of there with my guitar in worse shape than it was before I brought it in. I don't even play this guitar anymore because it pains me to look at the damages and hear the fret buzz and choking out.

I'd try one of the other Cincinnati music shops like Mehas Music. Willis has always been one…read moredisappointment after another for me and my family. I've tried to do business with them and have never been successful. They declined a brass repair of mine at one of their instrument repair locations which is now closed, but was very unprofessional about it. Last week my 13 year old and I spent several days choosing a new trigger trombone for him stepping up from his entry level trombone. We ended up choosing one on the Willis Music website with his middle school band instructor's approval and placed the order with Willis online late one evening. This was one within our budget and checked all of our boxes plus it was new...we thought we were going to need to take our chances on a used model. Credit card was charged. I woke up the next morning to my son still super excited asking when it would arrive, and that he had already been awake two hours watching videos and reading about it. I was really excited for him. Later that morning I received an email that the order had been canceled and a refund would be issued with no alternatives offered. They said it had been discontinued, but the manufacturer still makes this model just with a new backpack style case which is the one they displayed in their listing. They ended offering to get us that same trombone we had purchased (because it wasn't discontinued), but it would be $600 more than I had paid on their website the night before. They also assured me this $600 additional was a great deal. Such a scam and a waste of time. They certainly don't attempt to make things right in any way...unreal let down for my son. I wouldn't trust them and especially their website/online ordering. This also had our budget tied up in the authorization on my card for a week. We ordered a used trigger trombone on eBay, and will be taking it to Mehas Music to have it checked out, cleaned and any repairs.

This has been our source for instrument repair for years. The repair shop is friendly, reasonably…read morepriced and quick when there are time constraints. They also run a fabulous program to rehab old instruments and make them available to students who cannot afford one on their own. We're lucky to have this gem supporting school band programs.
