Awesome place to buy instruments. Great location. Great service! Brought my son to look at new guitars for him and couldn't say no to the deal and service. read more

Bought a "original" Kay Vanguard in "rare" sea foam blue. (over Reverb) Got the guitar, clearly a repaint. I had it in the case for the first two months that I had it and did not look at it closely. Showed pictures of paint on the fret ends. Didn't matter to them, clearly they do not care if they sell something that isn't what they say it is. Buyer beware. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place. First paragraph is about their inventory and prices, second is about selling stuff to them, and third the repair department. They have an incredible inventory of used and vintage gear. A lot of it is fair prices for rare and vintage gear. Frequently they get something modern and mid-range in stock, and they really overprice it. Perhaps you can haggle with them? I'm not sure because I'm not comfortable going in and demanding a certain price. As for selling them your stuff. I've tried a couple of times, but they wouldn't make an offer. They just kept asking what I wanted to get for it and then would say, "no, thanks." There was no indication of whether we were $50 away from agreeing on a price or $500. As for the repair technician side of the business... A few weeks ago I took two amp heads in for repair. One needed new power tubes and biasing which they did in a couple of weeks for a reasonable price. The other had a loud humming issue that needed diagnosis and then repair. In my many phone calls back and forth they could never give me an estimate on the work, the person calling wasn't familiar with the situation, and eventually they gave me both amps back and the second one had nothing done to it and was experiencing the same issue. Their bench fee is reasonable, and they can do simple work (replacing tubes, biasing amps, etc.), but I'm not sure that their technician is up to comprehensive diagnostic work. read more

ITS HUGE! Great selection of gear, guitars, amps, nice range of prices! I had my Telecaster set up and it plays so much better, bridge, string height, nut, frets..if it needed adjusting or checking they did it right. Scott was fantastic with my questions. I definitely recommend stopping by & check the 3 floors of merchandise! New, vintage, classic, its impressive. read more

If you're looking for high end gear, there is no other spot anywhere close. Rare and high end vintage gear is jam packed inside of the shop. Knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Always a celebrity or touring band strolling through . read more

If you are a musician or have ever even picked up an instrument, your jaw will hit the floor when you enter this vintage musical instrument store. I used to come here with my band back in the day to get parts and just to browse. Picture this: five musicians walk into a musical candy store. Each one sees something sparkle and they all wander off in a hypnotic daze to different rooms! You couldn't get us out of there! Mike's carries and repairs vintage musical instruments. The walls of each room in this 3 floor shop are lined with guitars that are old, but gorgeous. Each room is devoted to a different instrument. There is a room each for guitars, keyboards, drums, basses, acoustic guitars, large amplifiers, and small amplifiers. The location of the store is also very clever! We played a show at Bogart's next door once and it was very convenient to run next door and purchase some new strings before the show! I imagine that Mike's is frequented by many of the artists who play at Bogart's. I would recommend Mike's for purchasing a used instrument but be prepared to pay as they seem to be in high demand. If your instrument needs repair, they will also do that! They also do trading and consignment of your old stuff! read more

Mike's really is an amazing little shop. It seems like the kind of place to which musician from all over the area should make pilgrimages. There are room after musky room of guitars, amps, keyboards, and all the appropriate accessories. I've purchased two guitars from Mike's, a 6-string semi hollow body and a bass. During both purchases I had the pleasure of haggling over the price ("500's my final offer. No? Okay, how about 550?"). Mike's Music is a gem of a store that even non-musicians will enjoy. read more

Excellent shop and I love talking to the guy at the front counter. He's very informed and such a nice dude. Highly recommend this place. They can restring and set up your guitar within a couple days. MUCH quicker than most places I've gone too. read more

Mike's magical hands brought my guitar back to the first day I met her, excellent work done.

They did offer me a full refund, but I wanted the bass so why would i send it back to buy it again for the same price... so I asked for a small discount and them to work with me. That did not happen Problems in description: Japanese not canadian. I thought it was a single pickup model. it was not. Extreme rattle: thought it was the trussrod but found the low e string wound wonky which they knew nothing of...luckilly a relatively easy fix. Bass listed(advertized) falsely: marked as excellent condition, extreme damage covered up by a badly homemade pickguard, under the pick guard is atrocious and damaged neck through wood has been cut into and modified horrendously did i say it was marked as excellent all of the pot holes are mutilated, glue and glued on wood all over the body face. All original pickups/pots/ electronics missing, screw holes from the badly homemade pickguard and extreme damage caused by caveman aftermarket pickup installation. Stripped of almost all electronics replaced with utterly cheap electronics. Not worth the 300 I paid. plus the 20 bucks they made off the high shipping charge($50) did i say it was marked as excellent? Blamed on new employee. Do they not supervise new employees? Marked as excellent for four months but they say they knew about all the condition problems. Either way there are integrity issues. The employee i dealt with, did say it should have had a better description... There were no pics anywhere online of the extreme damage to the body face underneath the badly homemade pick guard. Could not tell the pickguard was even homemade from the pics. a small discount(what i asked for) would have been sufficient all i got was excuses and NO discount. The only negative reviews for Mikes Music in Cincinnati are separate from the main site(hmm) and they are telling. Beware before you buy. lesson learned will not buy from them again. over priced for the condition seems to be the consensus for all the negative review i see on here. read more

I went to this store with high hopes due to a recommendation and I was extremely disappointed. I walked in and the guy did not greet me, he stayed on the phone and just ignored me. After showing him some of my guitars he was extremely rude. I will strongly say I will NEVER go back and I will redirect people away from this store due to the extreme rudeness. read more

One of the coolest music shops in all of Cincinnati. A must stop for any guitar or bass player. Besides the large selection of both used and vintage acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, Mike's offers amps, drum kits, electric keyboards, and much more. At this point you're probably wondering why I am only leaving 2 stars... well here's why. Although I absolutely love and respect Mike as a person (and his employee whom works the front desk), I have a problem with their prices. Anymore it seems like when I try to purchase anything from them the prices are just unreasonable. Yes, they have great stuff... but not great prices. Although they are willing to work with you a little on the price, I have never purchased anything from them at a smashing deal. In fact the two items I have purchased from them I felt as if I overpaid for after doing more research on their market value. So, if money is no object to you... go and check out his amazing assortment of vintage guitars and used equipment! But If you're looking for a great deal, I would check elsewhere first. read more

Mike personally helped me out with some pretty specific guitar questions that I had. He didn't have any money to make off the transaction, but his knowledge was very valuable and appreciated. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out to try and buy a guitar from this shop, knowing he and his knowledgeable staff will be able to answer any of my questions. read more

Save your money and go to a real vintage store like Carter or Gruhn in Nashville where they have a good reputation. If you are searching for your stolen equipment Mikes Music is a good place to start. read more

I have been dealing with Mike for over 25 years and in the past few- having to sell off a collection. They are more than fair with the price. You can't ask for a more professional transaction plus it is a beautiful store just hanging in history. The store in Clifton is actually eye candy for every type of musician and they let you browse as well as play. Regionally this is your best bet to find that hidden gem you have always dreamed of. read more

this is a great place to go if you want to get totally ripped off in trades, or pay top dollar for some beat down 70s gibson that would be half as much $$$ at any reputable vintage music store. no thanks read more

These guys are great. I recently had the privilege of working with Marc on purchasing an awesome '57 reissue P Bass. Super fast shipping, great customer service; I can't say enough nice things about this place. They deserve your business. read more

Mike's music is mostly very junky instruments, and musical equipment, that are usually overpriced by, at least, 100 pct. Serious problems and repairs are not disclosed or described. The repairs of my two acoustic guitars were below average in quality. New dings and scrapes appeared on both instruments when returned! (Grrrrrr) Repair person not concerned about these details. Bridge/saddle repair was poor. Bridge had a gap and was left to be re glued, only after the repair there was still a gap! Saddle was now almost flush with the bridge. (Yech). My other 1954 Gibson's seems were re glued without being properly aligned first! Guitar was left in sun and when I picked it up was hot to the touch! Guitar was also dried out (after over 2 months in shop!) resulting in problems with the top...(is that why the repaired saddle was almost flush with bridge after the repair?)....This is an interesting place to look at a variety of old, dilapidated, overpriced, instruments and musical equipment...If you want quality instruments and repairs, I would go to Memphis, Nashville, Louisville, Chicago etc....Not recommended!
