Zucchini fries were thin and crisp but way too much salt. Cool cups you keep!
Mary K.

Food was 3 but location, ambience and service were a strong 4. Classic place on Rt 66. Really cool vibe inside and some of the most efficient and warm service I've had in over a year! How do they do it? The fried zucchini app was crisp and would have been great but seriously over salted so we really couldn't eat them. Burgers and fries were good at $11 and endless iced tea with a souvenir little plastic cup. Loved visiting here and highly recommend as part of a Route 66 adventure!

This is a great little place along Route 66. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Love all of the Cars memorabilia and celebrating the movie. The menu is huge. We had fried green tomatoes and spaetzle as appetizers. My aunt got the Rueben sandwich with onion laces and I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. It was so much food and tasted delicious. Gourmet Magazine featured the chicken fried steak and spaetzle was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. They have a gift shop too. It's a fun little place!

Best pecan pie ever? Could be! We only had dessert and coffee here on our drive through town but it was fantastic. The food being taken to other tables sure looked good! Super nice ladies taking care of everyone. Deffo worth a stop.

I took a route 66 trip with my family and stopped at this amazing place! The food options were amazing. They also have a gift shop. The service was wonderful and friendly, and the place was clean with beautiful art. I would definitely go back.

The ambiance was very creative, with not just Route 66 memorabilia, and the history of the Rock Cafe, but also characters from the animated film, Cars. Lots of the film is documented on laminated stands in various locations around the building. I enjoyed the outside so much, unbeknownst to me, it was almost closing time when I walked in. Not only was I not informed of this, but was treated with respect and served delicious food promptly, and courtesy. My Yägersnitzel was extremely tasty. After finishing, I looked around and noticed I was alone. When I asked the nice young lady what time do they close? She told me they were already closed. I apologized, but several of the staff were gathered nearby and they all made me feel completely comfortable and not guilty. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

Fun place to visit while traveling Route 66. My husband loved his bacon cheeseburger. My breaded chicken tenders were more breading than white meat. My mashed potatoes and green beans were flavorful. The waitresses were very attentive and they kept our drinks filled. You can take home your souvenir cup. The staff handled the crowd with ease. The diner was appropriately noisy with the buzz of hungry patrons. We will come back if in the state again.

This was a great place to grab a Saturday lunch. I told my wife that we'll start taking a Saturday or Sunday and try different restaurants in OK. We chose the Rock Cafe as our destination. It was an hour drive from Oklahoma City and upon arrival we parked but couldn't really locate the entrance. Once we did we were greeted and seated immediately. There were several open tables and it appeared that we may have missed the lunch crowd. A delightful server (Alyssa - no clue if we spelled her name right) guided us through the menu and made great suggestions. She checked on us periodically and at one point in time provided history regarding the restaurant. Very informative! Especially to tell the story about Betsy, the name of the grill. She even took us back to the kitchen to check it out after we finished our meal. Pretty awesome to know that the grill was the only thing left after a fire destroyed the restaurant in 2008. We decided on Fried Pickles as an appetizer they were very good. Both of us decided on the Chicken Fried Steak. It was good but to be perfectly honest a steak knife would have worked better than a butter knife. The mashed potatoes were real, the fried okra was perfectly cooked and crispy. I was pleasantly surprised that I could order dessert. Typically I don't but this time I managed to save room. We choose the Peach Cobbler to split. I found it to be overly sweet and although we ate it all it was not my favorite. After we finished eating we made a short walk to the Ed Smalley Centennial Park which is adjacent to the restaurant. A very nice tribute to those who served in the Armed Forces.

I had my hesitations since I really didn't see anything on Yelp maps until I stumbled upon Theopolis. I did some research and concluded that we were eating here for dinner last night. I am so glad that we did! Upon entering it was quiet and not that packed. The decor was comfy and elevated for a nicer dining experience. Our waiter was really helpful with recommendations on the menu since it was our first time here. We got the artichoke dip to start, I got the chicken pot pie and my dad got the 8oz Fillet with a baked potato. Starting with the artichoke dip we were blown away with this appetizer. It came out hot with plenty of sliced toast points. The creaminess of the dip paired with the crunch of the toast points was out of this world. We were talking and this might have been the best artichoke dip that we have ever had! Would get this again! The entrees arrived and I got the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie was exactly what I needed last night. Shredded chicken, potatoes, carrots, herbs and spices in their house-made roux which made the meal hearty and comforting. The flaky puff pastry just was the cherry on top to balance the savoriness with a little sweet with the warm pot pie. No doubt I would get this again! Tried a bite of my dad's 8oz fillet. It was well seasoned and the temperature was cooked to perfection. I am not a big baked potato guy, but the baked potato that was served with his steak was amazing! Really good! We both finished our meals before we got the chocolate cake for dessert. It was a small slice but it was perfect after a big meal! Sweet and had the right amount of chocolate. Nothing was left on the plate after that. Yummy indeed! Theopolis was so good after the convention today we decided to come back for lunch before making our way down to DFW. I got the smash burger and my dad got the fish and chips. The smash burger was a proper smash burger with a flat patty and melted stringy American cheese paired with fries and a homemade thick ketchup and Theo's sauce. It's everything you want in a smash burger for a great lunch! Flavorful and I could not stop eating my fries with the home made ketchup and Theo sauce. The fish and chips were fantastic as well. I got a bite and it reminded me of the fish and chips that I had in Los Angeles in 2022. The beer batter around the fish was crisp and pairing that with the flakiness of the cod just was the perfect bite. I don't think you could have a bad meal here. Oh and a shout out to our waitress Grace who was managing multiple tables at once and provided us fantastic service! At the end Theopolis was the best choice when staying up here in Shawnee. We couldn't have had a better dining experience here since everything was fresh and surpassed our excitations. If we lived in Shawnee, Theopolis would be in our rotation weekly for lunch and or dinner. Reasonings for a 5 star review: The food was fresh and flavorful, waiters/waitresses had great service, the food was unique and stood out from other restaurants from the area. We hope to be back in the area to dine here again!

We have eaten there in the past with good results and figured we definitely needed a burger, onion rings and a hand made shake. Our trip down Route 66 was as pleasurable as always and when we arrived at Anchor 66 the parking lot was full. Luckily one table was leaving just as we walked in so we got an immediate seat but here were also stools available at the counter which would have been perfectly fine with us. My wife ordered the Grandma Retha burger and I ordered the Sooner burger. We shared an order of onion rings and we each ordered a milkshake. Everything was great. The burgers were hot and juicy the onion rings were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. The shakes were definitely the best we have had on some time. We will definitely be returning to Anchor 66 soon for a other dose of goodness. The staff were very friendly and accommodating for us. It was a pleasurable dinner tonight. We will be back!!

We came in for lunch as a group of six, traveling through town, where we could sit at two booths, or at the soda bar across from the grill. The server met us with menus we could use inside or outside on a being developed patio. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and burgers from the menu, not knowing what to expect. One thing I was sure about was that if this diner didn't have something special, it would have never survived as long as it has. The appetizers- (pictured) corn ribs & fried mushrooms were good and served to order. The hamburgers and fries were fresh, warm, and well-prepared. The price was a little more than expected but the hamburgers they delivered were more than what was expected as well and I would order the same again.

Service was spot on throughout the entire night. We started with the deviled eggs, half plain and half Chef's Choice. The Chef's Choice were the best, drizzled with chili crisp (or pickled Szechuan peppercorns) and topped with a tiny gherkin and fresh dill. The soup of the day was a cabbage and radish soup. It was interesting and very homey but I wish I had ordered the salad. I had the Novarro Farm sweet Potato Gnocchi (kale and pecan pesto, Birch Bottom Farm Georgia candy roaster, fresh chevre). I was a little hesitant about the kale pesto but should NOT have been. This dish was delicious--great garlic flavor. Would order again. The burger looked amazing and while The Hubs said it was good, he also said it needed some more spice. They had a couple of rotating beers from Heirloom--a Mexican Lager and an Italian Pilsner. I had the Water Lily cocktail, their take on an Aviation. Order it just because it's beautiful (and refreshing). The photo does not depict the deep color of it. I asked what other gin based cocktails they had on their menu. They didn't but the server/bartender offered to make me a Bee's Knees for the second round. It was delicious! My friend TJ3 experienced a similar showing on a recent road trip to Oklahoma City to watch an NBA playoff game between the Grizz and Thunder. It was the morning after the game, and after a few hours of sleep, we hit the road. Our voices were hurting from 48 minutes of cheering. We had to get home. We passed on the overpriced breakfast in the overpriced Renaissance hotel. After an hour on the road, I was starved. TJ3 had a conference call he had to take. He was hungry, too. The sign on the exit said "Biscuit Hill" something or another. Yelp showed nothing. Sounded perfect to me. So we stopped, pulled past a truck stop, and parked next to the only other car in the "area" for parking. I say that because the parking lot is basically an extension of the truck stop, although the restaurant is not connected to the truck stop. It's a dive. It's run down. It's dirty. I was starving. The sign says Biscuit Hill, but a sign in the half-broken front door says "Kay's Country Diner." Ahh, we have new ownership! I sat down at a table of 6 even though there were only two of us. I figured that was not a problem because there were 4 people in the entire restaurant: Ed W., TJ3, the friendly employee and a man drinking coffee by himself at a table that sat 10. I figured party size to table capacity ratio was not a real big deal for this place. I asked who I learned was Danielle what was good on the menu, and she said the breakfast burrito and the omelets. So that was easy. I had the burrito, TJ3 had an omelet. Danielle turned, walked in the kitchen, and within seconds started cooking. Yes, she was the hostess, cashier, waitress, bus boy and cook. I heard lard and/or something hit the griddle and the sizzling sounds began. Nice. And with that, TJ3 was outside pacing the parking lot for his conference call while I had nothing to do but soak in this soon-to-be Yelp first review. I needed some story. So who better to ask than the man sitting by himself, aka Gary. Gary explained that the restaurant had been around since the 60's. It looked like it. The walls were dirty, the furniture was a mish mash. There was a small television behind some counter stools that I believe may have been used on the television show Alice in Mel's Diner. Gary talked about different names of the spot, including The Hoe Down, but now it was Kay's. Danielle later filled in the blanks. Kay had owned it twice, one in the 90's, and now 3 months ago she bought it again. She brought back the old menu, and specializes in good ole home country cooking. "Hamburger patty, hand breaded chicken fries, homemade biscuits and gravy, homemade mashed potatoes" she said when asked what she enjoyed serving. I think I'll be stopping here again soon. TJ3 inhaled his omelet. My breakfast burrito was gigantic, and was heavy on the meat, light on the eggs. It included chunks of potatoes, jalapeno and other peppers, onion and cheese to go along with the voluminous portion of sausage and scrambled eggs. I like this spot and give it 4 stars because it's not trying to hide what it is. It's a hole in the wall. It's limited on beauty but makes up for it in kindness and food taste. So if you're in the area and starving, make a stop to this dive outside of Shawnee. If you can look beyond the grit and grime, I think you'll like what you find. Four stars.
