If you are making your way down Route 66, this definitely deserves a try. I usually get the Meatloaf Special or the Chicken Fried Steak. They have never disappointed me or my family. Save room for dessert and try the peach cobbler...if there's any left, it sells out fast. read more

The place: It is a quirky 'Cars', theme place. It is very eclectic and you feel that you are truly in a unique place. The Food: The food was fantastic. We had breakfast and all of our items were delicious ! They had varying dishes and each one seemed better than the previous. We were 7 in our group so we got to see several dishes. The peach cobbler- SOOO good! The Service: The two ladies working the floor were super friendly, making recommendations and assuring we were satisfied with our food. I only show one check in here but we have been here several times. We stop here when we can as we travel back and forth to visit the kids in Texas. Good burgers and good German food! We knew from the reviews that this place was likely to please both adults and children, but we weren't prepared for how great the overall experience would be. To save space I will itemize what we loved, in order of experience: 1) The location and charm of the restaurant- this is beautiful low country Oklahoma perfectly situated on Route 66- casual, wood and stone cabin that could have been in place for a century, old hearth included. Attire went from swim trunks to slacks and everyone felt at home. 2) Amazingly sweet and attentive host and staff. Our server wore a smile as wide as his face and was genuine the entire evening, offering recommendations, a guest book to sign, and continued visits to check on us (never hovered too long but did want to know what we thought of everything) 3) Excellent German/American Oklahoma food!!! Fried pickles- thin, crispy, the best we've had. Chicken fried steak- pounded thin, fork tender but crispy outside, excellent gravy, smashed potatoes and fried okra. The best Jagerschnitzel I've had outside Heidelberg. Spaetsle and brown gravy were terrific and flavorful. They have healthy food, too, one daughter enjoyed an excellent chef salad 4) Lastly, and most importantly to me in this day and age- they treated everyone in the restaurant with utmost, genuine respect and friendliness. It is a small restaurant and we saw everything. While we were there guests from the U.K. And France came in and enjoyed service nice enough to comment on what a terrific representation of Oklahoma kindness they saw. Excellent! Don't be scared away by the outhouses! There are restrooms inside as well! The service is wonderful! The waitresses make you feel like you are so special and so happy to meet you. The food is fresh, hot and plate licking great! Husband had the chicken fried pork and homemade mashed potatoes. He cleaned his plate! I had the spatzele with peppers onions tomatoes and cheese. Great halfway point to OKC. The food is very decent. It's on the greasy side (at least breakfast) but solid. Service was grea- staff was nice and attentive. I had two eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuit with gravy. They definitely give you plenty of food. While the beignets were it as light and fluffy as you would get in New Orleans, they were tasty and plentiful. I'm sure I'll be stopping by here again. read more

We visited today around 1:30. Staff was friendly, let us know that the credit machine wasn't working prior to seating us. Hubby and I both order chicken salad one fried one grilled, kids had a bowl of chili. Both salads came out grilled, didn't send it back because it took almost 20 min to get our two salads and chili. Kids chili was bland and under salted, salad was fine. Fairly disappoint with other yelp reviews but out choices were limited and we were just driving through. read more

Was just passing through to get off the big highway. Stopped in for a bite. We had the burgers and they did not disappoint. Food was all good and everything but this little joint is so unique if is worth the stop just to check it out! Driving back to Tulsa from the Blake Shelton concert in Tishomingo, we needed some good hangover food. Read some of the reviews and it sounded pretty good. Unfortunately it wasn't. Never trust a place that has bad tea and doesn't have lemons. We ended up just getting some appetizers, because I had a feeling I would be disappointed with any entree I ordered. We got the chips and salsa which were obviously from a bag and a jar. The cheese fries were nothing special, small plate of fries with shredded cheese that was barely melted. The fried pickles were super greasy and soggy but otherwise had an okay flavor and might have been better if they weren't so greasy. The best thing we had was the side of ranch dressing. I would suggest to keep on driving and skip this place on Route 66. read more

Horrible experience. I tried to enter with my family and my service dog and was greeted by two waitresses who told me that we needed to leave with the dog. I explained that the dog was covered under the ADA and could come in. The girks told me the owner didn't care and I needed to get out. One even followed us into the parking lot to ensure we left. This restaurant needs to be boycotted for denying access to patrons with disabilities. Shame on them. read more

Sorry to say, I was totally underwhelmed with The Rock Cafe. Unless you are driving down Route 66, and happen to be in Stroud, OK, I would scratch this stop from the itinerary. Otherwise stop by for a meal because the food is good--not great. The food was good, but server seemed disinterested, and the location--other than the historical facts--is a complete mess. Park on dirt, and the building is about 30ftX20ft with maybe seating for 25-30. However, very clean. I realize the historical aura associated with the Rock Cafe, and appreciate the significance of the continued existence, but it did not live up to my expectations. We stopped here on our way to California. I found it on yelp so we went because it had pretty good reviews. My husband ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich and spatzle. The spatzle was way too salty and very greasy. It was also buried in cheese. Cheese on spatzle? The pork tenderloin was good but when my husband found a hair in it, it pretty much ruined his appetite. I ordered the hamburger and onion rings. Nothing special about it. Greasy onion rings and a burger where the veggies on it buried the beef. The waitress was not very friendly. Anytime a waitress opens with the question "what do you want?" you know you got a rude one. I would not recommend this place. Also, we were the only customers in the place. I wish there was an option for a 1/2 star... Not sure why Guy came here... the food was acceptable but the service was pathetic. Our kid was challenged as to her age when she ordered a kid's meal!!! Where does that happen? And she was 13 at the time. Never saw our waitress after she delivered our food. And one of the other wait staff practically sat down at our table showing us pictures of her grand kids!! Freaky!!! If you're travelling Route 66, there are plenty of other places to stop - skip this one. I have visited 31 other Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives restaurants and this one is at the bottom of the list! So much fun such a unique place and the good was wonderful especially the fried green tomatoes. I ordered Jagerschneizel with pork cutlet & mushroom gravy and it was delicious. My husband had the country fried steak and fried okra Both were great. As for dessert we ordered peach cobbler with ice cream, which was not my favorite thing but my husband liked it. Our server was really friendly and delightful. We would highly recommend the place. We stopped by here a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't say I'd ever go back. Some neat history surrounds the place but I love food not history so I was sad to say my meal was just ordinary. My man, I, and our son were there on 10/21/18. We came from Oklahoma City. He had been wanting to try the Rock Café since he saw it on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives quite a while ago. Years ago in fact. Although the food was great, the service was not great. He did not end up eating because we ordered spaetzle as an appetizer and when he went to order the jaegerschnitzel and wanted to substitute the spaetzle for fries they would not. I assume because of the price difference because that is all that was explained oh and that the gravy goes on the spaetzle. However, we did not ask for a price reduction in the meal, just a simple change in the side. Gravy can go on fries too, or if requested gravy can be served on the side, or not at all. He lived in Germany for most of his high school years and is very familiar with how the dishes are served and can be served. Not that it is a huge amount of money but you just lost the profit on a $10.99+tax meal and the tip he would have left. He is pretty good tipper when service is good. I suggested we just leave and go eat in Tulsa since that is wear we were headed but we had a 3 year old that needed to eat. If it would not have been for our son we would have left and all profit would have been lost. We are huge on customer service, I have been in the customer service industry for 20+ years and he has been in customer service quite a few years as well. We will not return. The food was a 4 and service was 0. Bread pudding sounded good but no more money was going to be spent. We had a porterhouse and chicken fried steak and Texas Roadhouse for dinner and excellent customer service as always, I am able to request gravy on the side, or I can substitute my side. We are not opposed to spending money on good food and good service. We do like to support our local businesses, however when the service is mediocre or less, it does not matter how good the food is. I hope you reconsider your process on the next customer for a better customer service experience. The lady in the kitchen was super nice when we walked in, I would have expected that from everyone. I bet she would not have minded switching up the order and dropping some fries, and still made the same amount on the meal. read more

We were on our way back to the Tulsa area from Texas, and decided to take the backroads. We prefer to eat at places that we cannot eat at every day, and had been searching for a stop when we stumbled into the Rock Cafe in Stroud. We explained that we hadn't been there before, so the waitress sat down with us to explain what the best things were. We tried the fried pickles, the Chicken Fried Steak, the Hamburger Steak, and the Peach Cobbler. All were exceptional!! and the atmosphere was awesome as far as I am concerned. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, and I noticed that the hamburger buns were homemade, the potatoes were real potatoes, and no short cuts were taken at all. What a great experience!! We left with three to go boxes and munched for the rest of the evening! We will definitely be back!! read more
