Poppin grilled cheese

Looks a little random and lonely when you drive by. We walked up and initially thought it was closed. However this place is probably top the restaurants in Lincoln County on Route 66. The inside is a little random as far as theme but it's clean and the bartender/hostess was both very pleasant and attractive. We ordered the poppin grilled cheese with sweet potato fries and children's Mac n Cheese and grilled cheese. Food arrived maybe 5-10 minutes after we ordered. Hot, crisp and the sweet potato fries were just amazing. Prices are fair and service was swift. A fun stop if you're in the area.

Great little find off Rt. 66. Pizza, fancy Mac n' Cheese, Burgers, etc. The owner was fabulous and we left well fed! I hear they serve good affordable breakfast too.

While traveling through Stroud today,decided to check out Ruby's for lunch! Nice little restaurant on a corner lot. Minimal outdoor seating. Staff was small town friendly as we were welcomed in. Seating arrangement is very awkward and limited. Tables were clean. Ordered a bacon avocado grilled cheese. It came out with regular potato chips and a few pickle slices. The sour dough bread was toasted nicely but the proportions on the sandwich were off horribly ! I would like to see more cheese on my grilled cheese! The cheese was like shredded cheese out of the bag and not much at that. It would of been nice to have a better quality cheese and more of it when paying 10+ dollars. Bacon was crispy and the avocado was fresh but very minimal with serving size. Along with flat onion ring. This place has potential with the proper staff in the kitchen and whoever is expediting the food

The portion of oversalred fries i was given

Ive been here a handful of times, and the service is always friendly. The food is decent but a bit steep in price wise. You'd think for 19 you'd get a good-sized burger and a decent portion of fries. But this time around there was more bread than patty, and this small pile of over salted fries. By the time I'd gotten to my destination they were closed-end so I couldn't go back. I had gone in about 40 minutes before closing and placed a togo order, and understandably that took a minute to make. I think this will be the last time i go there

They have gluten free bread! I had a great vegetarian grilled cheese on gluten free bread. Friendly service.

A hamburger and a drink was almost 30 Dollars and not fast service pretty sure the old rubys was much better and they didn't serve alcohol

Service was spot on throughout the entire night. We started with the deviled eggs, half plain and half Chef's Choice. The Chef's Choice were the best, drizzled with chili crisp (or pickled Szechuan peppercorns) and topped with a tiny gherkin and fresh dill. The soup of the day was a cabbage and radish soup. It was interesting and very homey but I wish I had ordered the salad. I had the Novarro Farm sweet Potato Gnocchi (kale and pecan pesto, Birch Bottom Farm Georgia candy roaster, fresh chevre). I was a little hesitant about the kale pesto but should NOT have been. This dish was delicious--great garlic flavor. Would order again. The burger looked amazing and while The Hubs said it was good, he also said it needed some more spice. They had a couple of rotating beers from Heirloom--a Mexican Lager and an Italian Pilsner. I had the Water Lily cocktail, their take on an Aviation. Order it just because it's beautiful (and refreshing). The photo does not depict the deep color of it. I asked what other gin based cocktails they had on their menu. They didn't but the server/bartender offered to make me a Bee's Knees for the second round. It was delicious! The atmosphere here is casual but the food is elevated. I kept thinking this is what a French bistro would be like inside. I want to come back and shop the market. Oh, and the apple pie was excellent as well!

My friend TJ3 experienced a similar showing on a recent road trip to Oklahoma City to watch an NBA playoff game between the Grizz and Thunder. It was the morning after the game, and after a few hours of sleep, we hit the road. Our voices were hurting from 48 minutes of cheering. We had to get home. We passed on the overpriced breakfast in the overpriced Renaissance hotel. After an hour on the road, I was starved. TJ3 had a conference call he had to take. He was hungry, too. The sign on the exit said "Biscuit Hill" something or another. Yelp showed nothing. Sounded perfect to me. So we stopped, pulled past a truck stop, and parked next to the only other car in the "area" for parking. I say that because the parking lot is basically an extension of the truck stop, although the restaurant is not connected to the truck stop. It's a dive. It's run down. It's dirty. I was starving. The sign says Biscuit Hill, but a sign in the half-broken front door says "Kay's Country Diner." Ahh, we have new ownership! I sat down at a table of 6 even though there were only two of us. I figured that was not a problem because there were 4 people in the entire restaurant: Ed W., TJ3, the friendly employee and a man drinking coffee by himself at a table that sat 10. I figured party size to table capacity ratio was not a real big deal for this place. I asked who I learned was Danielle what was good on the menu, and she said the breakfast burrito and the omelets. So that was easy. I had the burrito, TJ3 had an omelet. Danielle turned, walked in the kitchen, and within seconds started cooking. Yes, she was the hostess, cashier, waitress, bus boy and cook. I heard lard and/or something hit the griddle and the sizzling sounds began. Nice. And with that, TJ3 was outside pacing the parking lot for his conference call while I had nothing to do but soak in this soon-to-be Yelp first review. I needed some story. So who better to ask than the man sitting by himself, aka Gary. Gary explained that the restaurant had been around since the 60's. It looked like it. The walls were dirty, the furniture was a mish mash. There was a small television behind some counter stools that I believe may have been used on the television show Alice in Mel's Diner. Gary talked about different names of the spot, including The Hoe Down, but now it was Kay's. Danielle later filled in the blanks. Kay had owned it twice, one in the 90's, and now 3 months ago she bought it again. She brought back the old menu, and specializes in good ole home country cooking. "Hamburger patty, hand breaded chicken fries, homemade biscuits and gravy, homemade mashed potatoes" she said when asked what she enjoyed serving. I think I'll be stopping here again soon. TJ3 inhaled his omelet. My breakfast burrito was gigantic, and was heavy on the meat, light on the eggs. It included chunks of potatoes, jalapeno and other peppers, onion and cheese to go along with the voluminous portion of sausage and scrambled eggs. I like this spot and give it 4 stars because it's not trying to hide what it is. It's a hole in the wall. It's limited on beauty but makes up for it in kindness and food taste. So if you're in the area and starving, make a stop to this dive outside of Shawnee. If you can look beyond the grit and grime, I think you'll like what you find. Four stars.
