ROC Cinema - Oops - Comfort Food Near Me - Rochester, New York

i came here for my first time for a yelp event. I didnt even know ROC Cinema was open,I thought it was still closed from covid. However new owners decided to buy it recently and have done such great things!!!. They have a full bar to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; as well as a popcorn and candy stand. The owners and staff that work there are very very nice and knowledgable about ROC history. What I liked most though of ROC cinema was the ambiance. Outside it looks like an old school cinema (which I find fun). However on the inside is all brand new and renovated. The theaters are different too. They are full service so you can order anything you like during the movie and it will be delivered to you all at decent prices unlike the other full service movie theaters. There are long counter type tables in every aisle and the large comfy computer chairs for your seating that are adjustable in any direction. Every 2 seats there is a table light to be on or off depending if you're eating out. Every night of the week they have special themed events as well too. I Plan on checking them out too! I highly recommend ROC Cinema. read more

Been to ROC Cinema a few times now and it never disappoints! The space is so unique and I love the full service bar! Comfort is prioritized with oversized computer type chairs and high top tables. Each seat has a personal touch lamp that makes eating snacks in the dark convenient and non disruptive to neighbors. Skipping long concession lines also makes the movie-going experience stress free! Ordering food from a QR code menu and having it delivered right to you is awesome! The drink menu is fun and contained quite a few holiday themed beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcpholic, when I most recently visited. The food menu is also much bigger than what you'd expect at a traditional theater, which is impressive considering it seems they have a relatively small kitchen. I also recently learned that they rent out the space for conferences and meetings during the daytime hours so that the theater is always put to good use, which I think is amazing!! There is a small platform stage in front of the screen which is perfect for presentations. There is parking available in the lot across the street shared by the Rent A Center and Dollar Tree. If you haven't gone to ROC Cinema yet, let this be your sign! read more

This is, of course, a movie theater, but I use Yelp only to review food. While the drinks are nice, the food is below average: thai chicken flatbread was too sweet, the bread was nothing special (and has dairy, which was an issue for a friend), and gave me an upset stomach the next morning. read more

Didn't realize that "Deadpool and Wolverine" was out and this was the only theater with decent seats left. You can order tickets online but no option to use Apple Pay. However, the digital tickets were able to be added to my Apple wallet. The website says that parking is across the street in the Dollar Tree Lot. We had no issues parking, They only have one screen and doors are locked until 15 minutes before show time. Keep that in mind, esp in winter! They have not upgraded the screen so I agree with other yelpers. It's a smaller screen so you may want to move up. Seating is an executive desk chair at a table. To be honest, I prefer recliners these days but it was alright. To order food, you have to be on the movie theater WiFi. It was very slow on my phone so that was frustrating. Also, again no Apple Pay so one has to manually enter a credit card to order. Food and drinks are brought to you which is nice. It probably took 15-20 minutes to get everything. I will say it was nice to attend a movie where people weren't on their phones and no major disturbances. We didn't order dinner food but did enjoy our drinks and popcorn. Prices are in line with other venues. read more

The chairs are quite comfortable, and on the one occasion when some yutz came in and started talking, a staff member quickly and politely asked them to leave. Awfully rude bartender. I just moved to Rochester a month ago. To celebrate, I went to see Fantastic Four: First Steps on Sunday, July 27. I connected to the WiFi (as the instructions said) and scanned the QR code. Once I got to the ordering page, the menu wouldn't give me the option to pay. I tried restarting my phone, using a different browser, and my partner experienced the same issue. Since the pamphlet on the table says, "If you are experiencing trouble ordering, please ask one of our food runners or the bar for assistance," we went up to the bar to ask for help. We explained the issue to the large male bartender, and he sighed and asked, "Are you on the WiFi?" We nodded, and he scoffed and said, "Well, you can't order up here. You gotta order from your seat." We told him we had tried, but it wasn't working. He quickly told us to go back to our seats and try again. Luckily, it worked that time and we were served, but the interaction felt dismissive and uncomfortable. His tone and body language made it clear that he didn't want to help us. I returned for the Comedy Open Mic night on August 6. I wanted to order a drink, so I connected to the WiFi and scanned the QR code, but I kept getting a "Disallowed Key Characters" error message every time I tried to load the menu. I tried other QR codes, restarted my phone, and used a different browser, but nothing worked. Based on the pamphlet's recommendation, I went to the bar for help again, even though I was nervous to speak with the same bartender. I said, "Hi, I'm connected to the WiFi, but for some reason my phone isn't working. Is there any way I can order up here?" He pointed to the order he was making and said, "Well, it's obviously working for other people, so figure it out." I said, "I can see that, but mine's not, so please help me." At that point, he started yelling at me in front of other customers, calling me a "wise guy" and threatening to beat me up. One of the female bartenders quickly stepped in and deescalated the situation. After this, I will never be returning. read more

Had so much fun here for their open mic night. Came with 5 other friends and the host asked us to sit in the front 2 rows. Ngl wasn't sure what to expect but it ended up being super fun. The music was amazing and everyone was very nice. Each chair is a swivel chair and they're those comfy executive chairs and you have a QR code you scan to order food, snacks, candy, drinks and alcohol beverages. They have a wide range of food which makes it so convenient. You also have a large table in front of you so you can eat/drink and enjoy the show. I also loved how the lamps in front of you are wireless and you can tap them to turn them on/off. Each comedian had 4 minutes to complete their set and at the end you vote for your fav comedian who in turn gets invited back at the end of the month to do a show. So fun and such a cool experience. The food ranges from good to great, same with the drinks. And while prices do reflect a premium, they're not completely out of bounds. Service is friendly and prompt, and they have a great system with the little lamps. The chairs seem weird at first, like executive desk chairs. But they're actually perfect, a good blend of comfort for viewing and support for eating. Everyone who works here is so friendly and helpful, I've never had a bad experience. Worst movie experience of my life they ruined Birthday movie ! First theater has no parking the lot they suggest for use is filled with tow away signs If you are disabled or going with little ones plan way ahead you will be driving around the block. Upon entering we were gruffly greeted by the owner (I'm assuming) who stated internet login was required for food and beverage purchases from our seats. However once we were seated inside the theater the web page itself wouldn't load and I could not order from my seat. I left the theater and walked back into the lobby area informing the owner I was having trouble I re-entered their password and made sure I was connected. I asked for a menu and was told it was only available online inside the theater. As the movie had started with ZERO previews I missed the beginning. Once again their web page would not load at this point I returned to the lobby and again requested assistance as the owner had previously commented on the fact signal inside the theater itself was weak. When I asked for a menu a second time a very rude scary looking man behind the bar made a rude comment to me "that ya the menu was online" his tone was extremely hostile. At this point the woman I'm assuming his wife took my order at the bar which she could have done in the first place instead of having me walk in and out of the poorly lit theater. While taking my order of just drinks and popcorn as I no longer felt comfortable eating anything prepared by them she commented "that I had taken the gentleman out of context". At this I asked the rude gentleman himself if I was misunderstanding his words or his attitude in any way ? He continued mixing drinks as if I wasn't even standing in front of him. He seemed very keyed up rocking his head back and forth in an aggressive manner like he was jamming to heavy metal music although none was playing. I was then informed I could return to my seat and my order would be brought to my chair to which I replied I would rather just wait. This added to the irritation of the owner who just walked away from me. In my confusion I asked a young girl for my order she was unpleasant as well. Even in a full service theater Iv never been denied drinks or popcorn from the bar. When I was handed the drink I ordered for myself my glass was less than half full. When I asked for a fuller glass that I had no trouble paying for I was met with another rude comment from the woman. Although I hadn't actually said anything about the size of her pour I just prefer a fuller glass. Maybe five minutes later the staff started food and drink service this went on the entire movie. As we were seated closer to the back we enjoyed the sounds of BOTH doors banging shut throughout the entire show. Then a BEEPING sound started and did not stop I actually asked if an alarm was going off and was told "it was their ovens" so I'm assuming this is a nightly occurrence. By this point I had absolutely no idea at all what was happening in the film and gave up watching all together. I decided I would use the ladies room before leaving as we now were driving somewhere else for dinner. The restroom was dirty smelled like urine and has a door they keep propped open for some reason. Upon existing the ladies room I encountered the woman who had been helping me again I'm assuming shes the owner she never confirmed when asked. At this point I mentioned how the beeping ovens, banging doors, and constant activity from staff had ruined the film for us. The staff had also turned on several table top lamps that really lit up the area around us this also took away from our movie experience. Her response "was that we had been late" which was untrue and had nothing to do with the noise from her and her staff during service. I said something along the lines of what a shame it was that they run their business so poorly as ROC is the only dine in theater in Rochester I was honestly surprised that every (computer chair) wasn't filled for the #1 movie in the world. At this the owner stopped shoving the food she was eating into her mouth and informed me she knew what she was doing because she's from San Diego. Guess what so are we ! I'm honestly not sure what I found funnier as she said this ? The fact she eating over open food , the fact she continued eating when approached by a customer, or the disheveled appearance of her and her staff. If we had been in a true luxury theater setting she would have wearing a suit and eating at an appropriate time and place among many other things. As I said when leaving the entire experience felt dirty made worse by the fact we were mocked on the way out with "have a nice day" it was clear they found the situation amusing Its also clear what county they must have moved from in San Diego. I do see that another unhappy guest left a negative review on yelp from the same July 27 show so I know we're not the only ones who had a negative experience at Roc cinema !! read more

I went to this place with my mum over the summer and it was the most cursed movie experience of my life. Super weird aggression from the only guy working that day? Mum and I were the only ones there but we were treated like an annoyance or pests just for wanting tickets to the movie? The place is full of enormous computer chairs that make it hard to see the movie without craning your head if you're under 5ft. Apparently they're a good place for events, but if you're just passing through and wanna see a movie in your free time skip it. It's really really weird. read more

Rude staff. WiFi doesn't work, which means you can't download your tickets to get in the door. Gruff staff is more concerned with mixing drinks that staff won't pick up for 30 minutes than actually getting paid customers in the door. (We know they won't be picked up within 30 minutes because that's how long we've been trying to get someone to help us.) I suspect that this will get downgraded to one star by the time I leave. Update: now that I am in the theater, I have the privilege of enjoying the women's room with the door propped open to the theater entrance. No privacy! Not cool. Missed the opening of the movie because of the ridiculousness trying to get in. This is not the place it used to be. Trying to hard to be upscale and failing miserably. read more

I've been to the ROC cinema four times. Three times for movies, and one time for a comedy showcase. I've had a great experience every time. I love being able to order food, drinks, and snacks right from my seat and having someone bring them to me. I always check the ROC Cinema schedule to see if they are playing what I want to see first. read more

Roc Cinema is so amazing. A historical landmark with such rich history. It is the second oldest theater in the US and it has the coziest vibe. We watched a few soccer matches here which they opened up the theater for free for the community. You can order food drinks candy all from your seat. We also watched Violent Night, and thoroughly enjoyed our experiences so far. Looking forward to visiting again. Their veggie flatbread is good, and we've ordered it 3 times now. Parking gets a bit tricky so come a little early and get comfy from your seats. read more

Sunday April 2 @12:45pm I went to the newly reopened Roc Cinema Theater to see Dungeons and Dragons. I was a regular at the theater in past years but unfortunately this will be my last visit. The doors opened a few minutes before the movie was to start. The foyer/bar area is small so the group of patrons who had been waiting outside in the cold crowded in and were stopped by the employee behind the bar. This resulted in my being stuck in the open threshold into the theater. I'm an elderly man with grey hair and a cane with obvious issues walking. I stood in the open door freezing while the bar tender focused on the front of the line and explained how to order food and drinks. The bar tender finished and scanned our tickets. I went to the men's room to discover it needed cleaning. There was a water bottle rolling around on the floor. As I passed through the lobby I mentioned this to the waiter but nothing had been done about it later when I visited it again. This was the first show of the day so when I arrived at my seat I was surprised to find my counter dirty and covered with a white powder. I brushed away the mess and made myself comfortable. The chairs are nice and easy to adjust. I used the QR code in front of me and ordered quickly. I had read the menu earlier making the process for me fairly simple. I considered what it might have been like had I not been prepared and feel the process is still user friendly and well thought out. Waiter brought my margarita, it was extremely bitter so I asked for water. Next came my food and dessert. The Mentor is described as a foot long hot dog wrapped in salty bread with caramelized onions and cheddar. I wasn't sure I had gotten the right food st first. The dish had two flat croissants and a side of dipping cheese. I couldn't cut it with my knife. The bread was hard in areas and just tough in others. I picked it up and tried biting into it. All the lights went out. Pitch black as the movie started. I fought with my meal and it was horrible. Bread I could hardly chew. No sign of onions and the hot dog was lost in the bread. When I did taste the hot dog it had a good flavor. The Backstage Actor is ice cream on a large reeses cup. Nice idea and it was ok but the oreo crust makes it dry at the end. The tiny scoop of ice cream could be larger and fix that problem I went to the lobby and discussed my food with the waiter. He gave me the cooking instructions. There was no apology or offer to make things right or even a mention of bringing it to management's attention. That was twice I my issues were ignored. The waitress was in attendance on both occasions when I complained. She avoided being involved. I returned to my seat and the movie finished. I was in no hurry and gathered my belongings. I'm smelled chemicals. I'm very allergic to the strong scents used in many cleaning products. The waitress was spraying the counters in the back and wiping them. I had to leave and quickly. The cost of unscented is the same as scented and won't cause allergic reactions. I would not have been able to attend the second showing because of the chemicals they used. It was freezing outside so I sat in the lobby to wait for my ride. The bar tender saw me and started asking why I hadn't left, was I waiting for a ride or a bus. I replied that I was and he walked away. The chemicals scent from the theater made its way into the lobby and I left the building to wait in the cold. I sent the theater an email an hour later describing my experience and letting them know I write reviews, offering them a chance to address the situation. I've received no response as of two days later The theater itself is nice but customer service is nonexistent and the food isn't always good. Each item costs $13 plus a tip is added. I suggest if you aren't allergic to the cleaning chemicals and don't mind that it's not always cleaned properly that you avoid the cocktails and most of the food. It's way over priced but stick to pop corn and soda. I will not be returning. read more

Just came from an event, first time since they reopened. When I went inside for this party, a harsh women, clearly thrilled at working, told me you have to use their Wi-Fi network, and if u want anything to eat or drink, then I have to scan the QR code from Ur seat, which I said I couldn't do. I asked her if she could make me a drink, she said I'm tooo busy and it would be a long time till she could. When I reached into my pocket to pay her, she said they only take credit. I then left. They r clearly tracking you and selling your info and data.... No thanks..... On the positive side, it does look like a nice corporate meeting room..... read more

Can't recommend the Roc Cinema enough! We saw the new Avatar movie and had a fantastic time. Our group filled a row and it was very convenient. The service was great, love the ordering system. You don't even have to get up, just scan the QR code and it shows up minutes later. Food was very good. We got the pretzel, meatball sub, nachos, quesadilla, candy, popcorn, and a couple drinks. Very comfortable and the time flew by. Great movie and great place. We will definitely be back. read more
