My pup, Nutmeg, and I have been learning obedience from Robin for the past 5 months, via the West Los Angeles Obedience Training Club (WLAOTC) program. We started with Robin's puppy manners class when Nutmeg was 5 1/2 months old and are currently in her advanced obedience class. Nutmeg is the fourth dog my husband and I have raised, each as an "only dog" and each from young puppyhood. They have been (in order) a mutt, an Aussie, and two miniature American shepherds (aka mini Aussies). We have tried various training approaches/classes, ranging from "do it yourself" to individual competition-focused instruction. Based on all of my experiences, Robin's approach has been far and away the one I like best. One of the reasons is that she encourages, and demonstrates with her own behavior, that training should be fun and always rewarding for the dog, not like being sent to military school! Although it is clear that most of the training is of the owner, not the dog directly, Robin is very easy-going and nonjudgmental of our various levels of (in)competence. She also has a very good sense of different dog personalities and tries to help the owner find the best approach to training their particular dog, given that personality. The result is that training with Robin ends up low pressure and fun but while still being very effective. And her instruction is broad, from teaching the most basic commands to throwing in some tricks as well as the skills necessary for various levels of obedience certificate behaviors and introduction to competition expectations, each of which reinforces the training approach as much as the particular skill being trained. And mastering the approach ends up being Robin's main goal, rather than, for example, expecting participants to enter competitions or focus on gaining certificates (although the training provides an excellent basis for both). The result is that both Nutmeg and I look forward to going to class and learning nee skills (more treats for Nutmeg; more confidence for me!). read more

Our dog is pretty well behaved but WE also want to learn. We did the Puppy Manners class with Robin and it was wonderful! She is skilled, knowledgeable, patient and really made the class fun for everyone, including the pups. I especially enjoyed her insights into canine psychology and how we can relate better to our dogs. The class consisted of basic obedience training (sit, come, leash walking, etc.), but the best part was the puppy playtime at the end of each lesson, which is so important to get the pups socialized. Where to begin....No trainer I have come across compares to Robin. It's not how she trains, what she says or her experience, it's her whole package. Her compassion and understanding of animals is unbelievable. It was clear from the beginning how much she cared about my dog(s) actually getting better. We have 3 dogs in our home: Maxx (8 year old chihuahua yorkie), Tiffany (14 year old yorkie who is deaf) and Achilles (8 month old husky). Our puppy just started puppy school, which is I highly recommend. It's more concentrated and less costly than most programs available. Maxx has had fear aggression for many years now. I tried EVERYTHING and was willing to do ANYTHING to make him feel better. Within 4 sessions with Robin, Maxx was a different dog. Yes, he has plenty of angry moments. No, he isn't perfect. While the work we have to put in without Robin takes time and patience (a lot of patience), it works.
