He actually recommended we wait to repair the ceiling until after our roof was fixed so the work wouldn't be ruined if it rained, and I really appreciated that transparency. Once the roofing was done, he got us scheduled right away, knowing I was close to my due date. One of his teammates completed the repair, and Chris still came by to check on the work. I want to talk about how much I love my new bookshelves. We approached River City Carpentry about a…read morelarge project, at least for us. Carlos came to our house, on a holiday no less, and talked about what we wanted to do and provided a quote later. He was thorough, providing suggestions about how to approach a problem: framing out our decidedly builder-grade windows to tie in with the board-and-batten we wanted. And then there was the huge, floor-to-ceiling built-in-bookshelves project we wanted him to tackle with stain-grade wood. Through the whole process, from concept to completion, Carlos checked with us about what we wanted. He made changes when needed and was respectful about our wishes. Everything he did mattered to him. All his choices were thoughtful: with materials, trimming out the board and batten and windows and building the bookshelves. With the cabinet bottoms for four of the bookcases, he chose something with a nice wood grain and matched the doors up. It looks so good and now we need to respect the wood with a stain that will allow the beauty to come through. The result is something out of my dreams. Solid, classy bookshelves with some cabinets and even a couple cabinets with plexiglass doors. As Carlos said, we could drive a truck on these bookshelves now. No disrespect to the IKEA hackers, but I wanted something solid that would last a lifetime, out of real wood. Carlos custom-made the bookshelves -- no prefab cabinets. He was great with communication, both in person and by text when he was on his way for the day. He was always on time or even early. He has a great sense of humor and found us funny too, which is nice to have when you have someone working in your house for a while. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. River City Carpentry provided good quality service and a great value. Now I'm looking forward to the next step of getting our shelves stained and our board and batten and the rest of the room painted.

BTW: ALL US BANKS WERE CLOSED~Ooooof, i.e., I couldn't give Carlos a Cashier's Check for the initial deposit; I had no choice but, submitting a cash deposit instead . . . Aside, the scheduled door installation date was for November 24, 2023, i.e., on time as scheduled--of course and indeed confirmed days prior. During the door installation installing two doors, I was enthralled with Carlos adjusting the "X & Y axis" for bedroom door~LOL . . . Which Carlos called, ". . . plumbed." Regardless, Carlos is an expert, indeed! I plan hiring Carlos when I receive my EDC building permit for converting a Tuff Shed into an ADU.

We had signs of fungus (like a small flat mushroom) coming through a seam in our bay window that…read morehad been hidden by the blinds. I knew this wasn't good, as fungus means moisture and dead stuff (old wood). Thankfully this isn't a "M word" story (mold). But anyone would be concerned by a weird intrusion like this so I had Good Life come out and check it out. I had been dealing with real estate recently, and I was somewhat familiar with Good Life for home inspections so I gave them a shot at this repair. Project Manager Eugene arrived with one of the construction crew and they explained what they could do to assess the problem. We scheduled them to come out and pull off some drywall and do a moisture test. The next day they were able to confirm that water was getting into the wall from a part of the outside stucco and had caused extensive dry rot down to the studs. Obviously, this is where it sounds expensive. Eugene explained in detail what needed to be done to repair the damage and to prevent a future leak. He emailed me a detailed repair with a reasonable estimate, including an up front discussion on change orders that may need to be made. I approved the estimate online and felt confident that the guys knew what they were doing. Over the next week or so the crew from Good Life worked efficiently and professionally to remove the old stucco, wood and insulation and treat the fungus affected area which about 10 feet high by 8 feet wide on the exterior. Eugene called or updated me on the daily progress in-person and was very professional. The crew was Ukrainian and spoke some English along the way but Eugene and a couple others explained everything clearly. After a couple of detailed change orders the crew put the front of the house back together with fresh wood, insulation, stucco and a brick veneer that looked especially challenging. I was very impressed with the crew's versatility in how those guys were able make the house look the same down to the paint and the landscaping that was in front. Good Life did great work and made my house look good as new. They worked quickly and effectively and left a very clean result inside and outside. The cost was a good value for the amount of work I saw completed and the attention to detail. I would definitely call Good Life again for repairs, but hopefully we're done with anything at this level. Great job guys.
