We hired Sean Fischer Painting to paint our 1940s, one-story suburban house with wood siding and…read morewood dormers on the roof. The house has an attached garage which was also painted. And, we had them paint a stucco wall along one side of our yard. They have a general contractor's license and do some work on old houses. We really wanted that because one wood window has dry rot and needs repair or replacement. It does not open and would have to be removed entirely and taken away. There is apparently only one major repairer of old windows in the area, he only works through contractors, and Sean Fischer is one of the recommended contractors. Also, the front door needed some repairs. The paint itself was faded. There were some large bubbles, unevenness from previously scraped edges, and some peeling on the roof structures. There were some cracks in the wood siding. The house was painted for sale about ten years ago, and we had repainted several walls and some trim incrementally after we bought the house. The owner and project manager gave the initial estimate. They spent at least two hours examining the project and taking measurements. They wanted to do the prep work on a time and materials basis, and gave us a flat fee for painting with the paint supplied to us at their cost. They estimated that the entire prep and painting project would take three weeks. Our prep and painting took eleven weeks. There was then another four weeks of occasional work. Things like removing masking, putting up the patio shades, and the door repair work. We chose not to have the window repaired by them, because they hadn't even started to take it away after the painting was done. We had hoped that the window would be taken away at the beginning of the project and ready to reinstall at the end, considering how long prep and painting took. We also chose to paint the repaired door ourselves, because the rest of the project had taken so long. There were several things we initially asked for that never happened. We wanted the wire mesh over the soffit vents replaced, because the previous owner had painted over them and they weren't venting well. We also asked to have the mesh masked off but instead, the painter just sprayed over it again, closing it even more. When asked to fix the problem, the project manager just said someone would have to do something about it someday. We also asked for the wire on the crawl space vents to be replaced, which should have been done in the prep phase. It wasn't, and we are now doing it ourselves. The total project time was fifteen weeks. We spent the entire fifteen weeks at home waiting for the painters. There was a rotating cast, but only two at any given time including the project manager. We never knew whether anyone would show up, when they would show up, and when they would leave. We asked for schedules but when given to us, they were seldom kept. We complained frequently. We disputed the hours for the six weeks of prep and Sean gave us a discount, and later another discount when the job was almost done. The work was done in fairly random order. Any given type of work, such as doing windows or roof trim, would be started and then left off while something unrelated was done. The painters even did things like paint window trim halfway down and just go on to something else entirely. A couple times, when no one showed up, we painted parts they had halted in the middle, and one entire window. We had agreed with the owner and project manager on what parts would get how many coats. The work was so confused, we still do not know what got one coat, what got one coat plus touchups, and what got two coats. We also had to do things like scrape paint off some window glass that had been inadequately masked. After we hired this company, the project manager told us he "wasn't really into the management thing." Later, the business owner told us he did much of his work as a general contractor for a business and he personally "was done with" painting. He has the skills, he did good work repairing the old door, but we always had to wait for the small increments of time he could spare from his other work. We think the finished job looks good. It will probably be OK long term but time will tell. But the workers are incredibly disorganized.

We lost Monday due to rain but they managed to push through and complete my job early Friday afternoon! They're professional, tidy, quiet, and did really good work. Do not hire this Handy Man! He does not care about detail and thinks your concerns about small…read morethings are ridiculous! Case in point...Have you ever wondered what someone really thinks of you?! Well Paul was here at my house in El Dorado Hills, I asked him to come back because the seam on my wood window sill he promised would not be visible after it was painted, was very visible. He sent a text to his wife that accidently went to me. Please see attached picture of the text if you don't believe this really came from him (I will try to attach picture of the text). Let me quote: " I'm at this crazy ladies house in edh waiting for paint to dry. You couldn't even see the seem (sp) she was complaining about. Total wack job with nothing better to do." Yes this is a text Paul sent about me- his customer! So if you want him saying things like this about you after you ask for him to do what he promised, then by all means hire him. But if you want to hire someone who actually has a "Great attitude" like his logo states, then hire someone else! Let me explain... I needed a window sill custom made. The one we had was damaged by water and needed to be replaced. I explained to Paul that it was a long window sill, 102" to be exact, and he said there would be a seam in the middle. I explained that was not ok, and asked if he could make it with no seam. He said he would have to order the wood, and it would take a few days to come in, and his price would be higher. I said that is fine because it is important to me that it be all one piece. His initial quote was $150, he then changed it to $350 after I asked for no seam. So I paid over double his initial quote to have no seam. He came to install the piece after the order came in, and I saw him gluing something, I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was gluing the end pieces. I said I wanted no seams, and he then said something like " you wont see it after it is painted." At that point I didn't know what to say as he was already almost done with his job. So I figured I'd wait and see if you could see the seams after it was painted. Mind you I paid over double the initial quote to have no seams. And Paul knew how important no seams was to me. Well of course you could see the seams after it was painted! So I called him to tell him, and he was very argumentative about it. He wanted to refund me less than I paid to make me happy. When I wouldn't be able to fix the problem, for the amount he was willing to refund, he agreed to try and fix the problem. He came over and ended up putting bondo on the seams to get them to disappear. Then he painted it with my paint, and allowed it to drip, and crack, and left streak marks on my window sill. So in the end, I paid double to have no seams, and I ended up with 2 seams that he then put bondo over to cover up, and I still paid double his initial quote for a crapy job. Oh and better yet, the price over doubling was supposedly due to him needing to "Custom router the window sill," and he was able to order the exact window sill, and had no custom work done to it. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Can you imagine getting a text like that from your handyman who is down stairs to fix their problem!? Sucks to be him sending a text to the wrong number! He did apologize, but I'm sorry to say, no amount of apologies could make up for his terrible work, and his lack of professionalism! I am not a wack job! I am actually an attorney with much more education then he gives me credit for. And I have many better things to do with my time than to call my handyman back to fix their botched job. I have a baby and a toddler at home, and I'm trying to get my house fixed after a water problem. It's Christmas time on top of it all, so trust me I have plenty to do with my time. I doubt he understands what a mom does day in and day out! Sorry to say Paul thinks a stay at home mom has "Nothing better to do" than to complain about the terrible job her handyman did! Obviously Paul thought that my request for no seams held no merit, and he felt that detail was meaningless. Please do yourself a favor and hire someone else!
