Owner goes by Helen, Ellen but her real name is Elham. I would give 0 stars if I can. My mom has…read morebeen coming here for several years getting her hair cut by the owner. My sisters always buy her gift certificates. After getting her hair done today, my mom handed the owner a very generic gift certificate (note I say generic because her gift certificates are hand written by her on a sheet of paper ripped out from a notebook and attached to the business card) and said no she already used it the entire amount. Not true. She is a liar and sat there arguing with my 83 year old mom and charged her for the haircut. Shame on her and for taking advantage of an older lady like that. Shame on her for doing this to a regular client. Because my sister paid cash we have no proof for the exception of $100 note she wrote and attached to a card as the gift certificate. It never showed that my mom used it and was getting deducted. She would always cross out the $ amount and deduct what the hair cut cost. Ex $100 gift card, used $20, $80 balance. She just flat out refused the gift card that shows the full $100. I am disgusted that she would literally steal $100 from a regular client who is 83 years old. Shocking and ballsy. Do not go to her. I used to until she messed up my hair but I stopped years ago and didn't write a bad review then. But now, ripping off your regular client or any client for that matter. She deserves to get blasted and you all deserve to know.

My hair always looks great after a trip to Starcuts. I usually do a cut, style and color. I've also…read moregotten highlights there. My kids go there to get their haircuts. I've been a patron for probably at least five years. I like to change my color and style frequently and I am never disappointed with the end result. I trust their judgement when it comes to color and style. My hair doesn't hold color well, so I've been a little unsure when I've walked out of the salon, like the color is a little dark or the highlights are a little too noticeable, but a few washes later and my hair looks perfect. A couple of times my hair was a little shorter than I had hoped, but again, within a few days, it looks perfect. The salon itself isn't fancy, so you don't get the same spa feel but the space is bright and they use good hair products. The prices are extremely reasonable and you would likely pay more for stylists with the same experience with at another salon. I think the clientele is a reflection of the neighborhood. Sweet little older ladies, moms with their kids, middle age men, etc. I found them because I was looking for a salon that had online booking. They are very accommodating and warm. The waxing service is pretty good.

I showed him few of inspiration pictures the day before and on the day of appointment and told him I would like subtle soft beige highlights not too showy but he totally ruined the front part of my hair by placing very light blonde highlights randomly on my dark brown hair. And he said the toner was included in the appointment which I felt would correct the top blonde highlights a bit but he barely left it on for 2 minutes before rinsing off. I would not go back there again.

Because he's now my colorist, and no one can look…read moreas fab as I do after seeing him! #mycoloristisbetterthenyours Really though, Adam is UHmazing. He specializes in blondes, and he's not kidding. The man can blonde like it's going out of style! Let me backtrack, I came to him after extensively looking for a Guy Tang- like colorist. I love Guy's work, but he's in LA. And probably not booking regular non-celebs... so, I went back to my natural light brunette hair after having a bit of stress induced hair loss, three years later, I can't take it anymore, I need to go back to the blonde I was for 20+ years. Enter Adam's IG account and the answer to my prayers. All the pictures are like blonde hair porn, all untouched, glorious pictures of "afters" different shades, from ice to caramel, to honey and ashy blonde. That sold me, I nervously texted him (that's how everyone does it these days on social media!), not expecting an answer for a few days, and anxious wondering if he would be cool and professional, or standoffish and short. Well I got a text the next day! (Cue angels singing) he told me I could come in the following day or weds for an appointment, as he had a cancellation (blasphemy!) Shag salon is on Belmont at Sheffield, super clean and modern- all white walls, pops of black and natural wood. Adam was checking out a client, I overheard a bit of excited and friendly conversation which put me at ease, tamped my nerves down a bit. We sat down and he asked what I wanted, my hair history, problems, etc and then explained the different techniques and what he was proposing to do. I said BLONDE! He mixed up his magic color pastes and got to work. 2 or so hours later I was looking like Princess Elsa with a stunning ashy bayalage and baby lights. Girl- I almost fainted. Not only is he talented, Adam has a wonderful, colorful personality, great conversationalist, and beyond knowledgeable in his craft. When he speaks of color theory and working with other professionals in his field, you can tell he not only understands hair from A to Z, but it is also his passion. Watch this space folks. He is going to bring Chicago hair color into the forefront, surpassing LA, NYC... he's the real deal and the upcoming king of colorists. Seriously, get your appointments booked for 2019 NOW.
