My experience with Robert Earls was fantastic all the way around! They offer easy online ordering, and got my order correct. When I arrived I could smell the bbq smoker from outside and I knew I found a good place. The staff was incredibly nice. Most importantly the food was awesome! I got a brisket dinner and a spare rib dinner, mac n cheese, beans, greens and the banana pudding..everything was great! Best bbq I've had in a long time. The small sides were just that..small. Got there right after they opened. Service was good and quick. I got pulled pork. It was a little salty to me. BBQ sauce was good. I felt for 10 bucks a small side of potato salad and the pork was a little high. I'd go back and try something else. Oh and make sure you bring cash, that's all they take. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my friend. OMG. This is a hole in the wall but DEFINITELY, MOST DEFINITELY better than Lucille's, Outback Steakhouse, Black Angus. You name it, Robert Earls is WAY BETTER. It's a little small but it's comforting. We ordered the small sample of everything. Roughly around $35 for some chicken, ribs, brisket (you do get an option between pulled pork or brisket), and two sides. We got macaroni and cheese and baked beans. The baked beans are delicious and it is a MUST! Macaroni and cheese was one of the best I've had. Overall, it was the best. The service was also SUPERB. The owners came out and greeted us and I've never had that kind of service. They were so kind to us and asked if everything was okay. They even turned on the AC for us! I felt like I was at home, it was a very comfortable environment, like family. Everyone was so sweet and nice and the delicious food was a definite added bonus. After watching the Youtube reviews raving about this place, I was looking forward to trying the brisket and sausage. I ordered a sausage and brisket sandwich. The sausage was good, but the brisket was so salty it was almost inedible. The spicy sauce though was outstanding. I don't know why the brisket I got was so salty, but I hope they don't make it this way all the time. I was also surprised I got a heel for one of my bread slices. Are they cost cutting so much that they couldn't give a customer a proper slice of bread? Though I loved the sauce, I will never go back again. Very disappointing. read more

Ever since they hired employees two times now (once for me and once for my sister) they have forgotten something. Don't bother eating here. Food was super expensive and not good!! They charged me $6-$8 for a hot link sandwich which consisted of 1 slice of white bread folded around 1 hot link they split in half with BBQ sauce. Their prices are not on par with their sizing of menu items; super small sizes but outrageously high price. Worst food ever. The brisket was garbage. It was covered in sauce. No flavor and tasted like it was soaked in salt. Greens was nasty. Baked beans had the same nasty sauce as the brisket. So, I tried a bit of it all, Baby back ribs, chicken, pulled pork, beef brisket, OH MY GOOD HEAVENS OF TASTY FINGER LICKEN GODS OF BBQ! Today I posted a request to find a BBQ that was as good as the Austin Texas BBQ's that I remember from years past, but in the City of Long Beach... I got quite a few replies, but of all of them this one was the only one that I had not tried before and to be honest not disappointed by. This is an honest and fair review of the Robert Earl's BBQ joint on Artesia Blvd in Long Beach at or about at Atlantic Ave. I was very careful to get the package home unscathed so that you could see the meal as I received it. Kudos to start with on the portions.... For 18.00 bucks, I ordered the 3 meat combo which included the brisket, chicken links and pork ribs.. The sides are baked beans and coleslaw with the obligatory pickles and bread. To begin with the presentation was very good. Portions were good and the product was not at all greasy or messy in any way. I picked the spicy BBQ sauce for my meal condiment. I started with the brisket..( I want to preface my remarks by saying that I have had brisket all over the country from award winning BBQ places so I have a taste and eye for what is good and what is great..) This brisket was Good.. The flavor was smoky and the meat was not at all fatty but more well done than I would have preferred and not as tender as brisket should be "Side note:" A few weeks ago I had brisket from Bludsoe's that was so fatty it was inedible, but I did not have the heart to review it because the entire meal was so bad.. Another time maybe...."back to the brisket".... There was not a ton of bark to be had but still a good flavor all around. I was expecting the BBQ sauce to be spicier, but it was rather sweet. Still pretty good. Next I had some of the links... WOW...! I want to rave about these because not only were they cooked properly they had a wonderful spicy flavor and nice tender texture. These were the highlight of the meal.. I liked them very much and I appreciate how they were cooked. Most places cook all the joy out of them until it is like chewing on a spongy tennis ball. I don't know if Robert makes them himself, but they are very good indeed. The last portion of the meal was the ribs. I took a few moments in between to try the coleslaw and the beans.. The coleslaw has a nice flavor but a little too much mayo for my taste, but still the crunch and flavor was pretty good. The beans however were amazing.. really creamy and not at all over done. Each bean stood on its own in a very nice sauce and the balance and texture were spot on in every way.. Not too sweet and just sweet enough..Love those.. Back to the ribs.. Ok.. So the ribs were tender and just slightly too dry. When I say slightly it's a matter of taste. The meat came off the bone pretty easily but not with the ease that I have been accustomed to getting in really great BBQ places.. With that said, the flavor was solid and all in all I liked them. This was a very good meal and an excellent value for 20 dollars. I cannot say this was the best I've ever had , but it was not even close to the worst and by far the best I have had in Long Beach so for this review of Long Beach BBQ I give Robert Earls a solid A. Good good barbecue, especially the sauce. Wait time kind of sucks but the woman taking orders seems really nice. The sides are ok, Mac n cheese not the greatest but the greens were pretty good. They should invest in the square up card processor because they would get more customers who would use their credit cards to come here, because not everyone uses cash as much anymore. Rib lunch was 11.08 - 3ribs one side - it was amazing. A little fatty but still had a deep smoke sweet flavor. You can tell he cares for his smoking part of the ribs. Side- potato salad (small) was good. Tasted nice. Banana pudding- was charged $6+. This was not worth it. Needs more bananas for that price and size. I was craving bbq and was going to give the old standby Bludsoe's a try, but didn't want to deal with lines and eating outside in the cold. So I followed the Yelp trail to new kid on the block - Robert Earl's...and very glad that I did. The quality of the meat and bbq really stands out and is worth repeat visits. They were sold out of baby back (due to Yelp promo) so we ordered a full rack of pork ribs. It was high quality, fresh tasting meat, perfectly smoked and seasoned, tender and juicy with a bit of char. Sauce was bang-on - not too sweet with a bit of spice. But despite being a sauce person, I didn't really need it. Meat was that good on its own. Owner/chef let us sample his famous brisket which I now have to go back for. Most brisket I've had tastes like a more tender, smoky version of tri-tip. Flavor is mostly on the surface but not in the meat. But Robert Earls' version (smoked for 18 hours), is not like any bbq brisket I've tried. It's got a moist, smokey, slightly bacon-ey, salt cured taste to it. Reminds me of pastrami (even though this is far less salty and not as heavily cured). We only had mac and cheese as a side. Big sized elbow pasta with real cheese - happily, not the fake processed cheese kind. Perfectly adequate but tough to compete with the amazing meat that pretty much stole the show. It's a family-run restaurant and really welcoming. They have a few small tables inside, and though this joint is modest - it's charming with the red/brown color scheme and offbeat signage. It's winter time, so I was glad to be able to sit down and eat in a cute little hole-in-the-wall instead of having to do the full-on bbq shack experience and eat outside or in the car. They've only be up for 5 months, so I hope they maintain this high level of quality and keep the business going (but not so much that they get too crowded and sell out of items) as I want to keep on coming back! read more

Okay so I vame to this resturant 20 mins to closing and they took their time with me. This is by the best bbq place ever. Sorry but I used to think Hambones was bomb this surpassed my expectations. The brisket was amazing even without the bbq. Yeah my diet definitely went out the window tonight! My kids normally don't like everyone's banana pudding but they demolished yours! It took a while to find it, not a good sign outside, parking is difficult, I ordered two rib tip dinners, because they were out of chicken, what I really wanted, it was only 3 pm. How can you be out of chicken. I gave them my Groupon for 10 dollars, and he told me they could not accept it , unless the spend 50 dollars! The Groupon clearly states, 10 dollars w/ a 20 dollar purchase.I canceled the order and left. I see why the place is empty, if you want return customers, you should have better service. read more

I ate the ribs with a fork! Just fell off the bone, didn't make a mess or anything. I really liked the beans too. Easily my favorite side dish. Not too sweet, like some other places. the beef links were cooked the way i liked them, where the skin isn't tough or chewy, but it still has some snap. I ordered The mini Tex meal for my dad's birthday, with mac n' cheese and potato salad as our sides. At first glance we were like they were not kidding by calling it mini, but that was enough to fill 3 of us up. The ribs, brisket, chicken, and hot links were soo flippin' good!! Usually I think BBQ places over do it on their sauce by drowing the meats in it, but they know how to do it here. Definitely coming back for more. Ok been checking this place out for awhile because we needed a close BBQ spot that we can frequent. It's a small joint located on a Main Street so parking can be difficult. So we had the two meat combo brisket and rib tips with beans, potato salad, and cornbread. The meat is very tender it had good flavor and sauce was pretty good too. The beans are not what I normally prefer as I like mine sweeter but their version is pretty good. The potato salad was just ok and I did not care for the cornbread at all, didn't quite understand the flavor they were trying to achieve. But nonetheless, I will be back if it's just for the meat alone because it is definitely worth returning for. As for the service it was on point seeing how the place was crowded. read more

I've found my new BBQ spot!!! I've been searching for a few years for a BBQ spot that I can compare to my Grandpa (from Texas). I ordered the 3 meat combo 3 pork ribs, brisket and 1 chicken link , my 2 sides were baked beans and potato salad. I ate my food so fast I forgot about taking a pic. Everything was very very good. Meat was tender with that smoke taste and seasoned to perfection. I also really enjoyed my sides. The only thing I wish they would have given me more meat. Let's not forget the banana pudding!!!
