They seem to be a bait and switch business. They won't tell the cost before, it being urgent matter I gave plumber permission to clear my main drain. The same business 3 years ago charged $125.00 for the exact same service. After the service was complete, they charged me $250.00. They said it's because of inflation and told them inflation has increased by 100%. They eventually charged me $180.00 for the 40 minutes of work. As a business, I fully believe that if you can't fix something you should not charge someone. I find it completely ridiculous that they would charge me $100 to come over and tell me they can't fixture toilet. In fact they said the company doesn't make that part anymore. They said I would need to buy a Jew toilet and they'd be happy to charge me again. Meanwhile I was able to find the $30 part on Amazon and a dozen other websites in a 5 second web search. We've been living in L.A. apartments for so long now that the prospect of an actual appointment with a real, live plumber feels like a great gift and a huge triumph! Our superintendent responded in place of management earlier today, telling us she would put us last on "The List" for a plumber who, much to our luck, just happened to be on-site for the day. Of course it sucks to be last for anything, but there's no point in complaining when we're already on the damn list and the plumber is a-comin'! Marco has moved on from Robby's Rooter since my previous yelp below, but the equally fantastic CONRAD came by as promised with his training associate, Nestor. Conrad skillfully assessed and diagnosed our newly leaking pipe and non-flushing toilet, and his capable associate was quick to find the right parts and pitch in with toilet repair tasks as well. While we waited for Nestor to retrieve a final part from their vehicle downstairs, the highly personable Conrad cracked a few jokes at the expense of my wobbly, diabetic cat, but he obviously seems to be a cat lover himself. After completing and double-checking both repairs in less than half an hour, Conrad located a hot water (something we've been going without until now) switch for the bathroom sink and TURNED IT ON! A totally unexpected bonus for sure (thanks again, Conrad!), and one we will appreciate using as long as we have to live here. I tried to send them off with a couple of beers, but only Nestor took his, as Conrad doesn't drink. Leaky pipes might be endurable in the short term, but how long do you think you can go without a flushing toilet? You shouldn't have to find out, and thankfully, since Robby's best guys took care of us, we won't have to either! read more

I had a plumbing emergency and was referred to Robby's by a friend and I'm so glad I went with them. I had water gushing out of an exterior wall behind my shower and my water heater died! They quickly came out and replaced the water heater and started work on the leak in the wall. Their prices were very fair and the plumbers that came out were knowledgeable and tidy. I ended up getting a new tub and moving the plumbing lines for the vanity. I'm very happy with their work, I have a 1920's house so everything is a bit tricky but they worked diligently on my job and it came out great. Had a leak on my bathroom vent and garbage disposal wasn't working. The manager at my building contacted me to tell me they were there and if I could let them in, I said I can't but they have my permission since my bathroom was flooded.... this was around noon, so I get home from work around 9pm this find this.. I call the company and the girl is either high or has no idea what the heck she is doing... then she says to me "how do u know we were there today" I said I KNOW U GUYS WHERE HERE, my manager told me!!! I tell her "do u know her terrified I was to come out of the garage to see this" she says oh I am sure... but I don't think it was us"... Very thorough, very professional. There was a potential big problem that would have cost me thousands... after the inspection the total bill came to $145, and the man was here for 2.5 hours. Jonathan came out to clear my shower drain with his snake. A job that takes say half an hour BUT mine took more than an hour ... and he was determined to find out what was stuck in there. From the moment he arrived, he was friendly, cheerful and most professional. He just couldn't get to the bottom of it all. So he decided to crawl under the apartment bldg and snake the sewer that was underneath the building ... for another 40 mins ... can you imagine being in a dark, dank crawl space for that length of time? And he's a big, young guy! I heard him yell "please turn the water on!" I turned it on and he yelled back "perfect" and crawled back out! Heavy rust was the culprit. He even changed his clothes when he came back in my apartment! I am so glad he didn't give up! I don't give one star reviews but you'll see why. We've had lots of issues with gas in our apartment. The latest is we smelled gas whenever we used our oven, which is cause enough for concern, but on this particular day it also made a loud BOOM! a few minutes after being turned on. So we called the gas company and they said there's an obstruction in the line, there is not enough gas to light the stove so it builds up before ignition and it's dangerous so turn gas off and call plumber. Our landlord sends this company yet again and the plumber walks in and says "I don't know why you called the gas company, you should have just called us". Uh, maybe it's because our oven almost exploded? He looked and told us there was no obstruction and that gas meter needed to be replaced. Except that gas meter was replaced a year ago. And after that furnace, then hot water heater. So they just keep replacing appliances instead of actually fixing the problem, which is putting me and my family in danger. If you need a plumber my advice is to keep looking. read more

I had two toilets in my guesthouse that were both clogged and wouldn't flush. Rudy came out after hours at 1030pm to fix the problem, and he was able to locate the issue as being a clogged main line going into the septic tank. The total was inordinately high and they provided no means of questioning the total. If you decide to go with them, a word to the wise, is get a firm estimate. In October, this company came by to fix my friend's apartment sink. They were hired by the building management. I was at my friends place in the bathroom with the door closed & the only one in the apartment at the time. Then, I suddenly heard a knock on the bathroom door which freaked me out. Then the door open quickly opened as I was said "I am in here" and person kept trying to force the door so I slammed it on him, having no idea who he was or what he was doing in the apartment. I quickly got out of the bathroom and saw this man. I realized he was a worker. I asked him what he was doing in the apartment and he said in very broken English, something about the sink. I asked why he came into the bathroom though the door was shut and I yelled I was in there. He then got extremely rude, swore at me in Spanish and was irate. There is no way this was acceptable. As I told him, "you did not announce herself upon entering the apartment and you entered a bathroom that was occupied and I yelled I was in there." He continued to be rude and unprofessional. I asked for his supervisors information and he said I don't have to give it to you and I don't have to deal with you bitch and then he ran out of the apartment like a horrible coward. After nearly a decade of using Robby's Rooter, we had the hot water line in our kitchen faucet give out and Robby's Rooter came out. We were told it would be $180 because it was a Saturday. Turns out we needed a new faucet, we went and purchased one ourselves and Robby's Rooter installed it. The plumber who fixed it would not take any money and said it would be the price they quoted: $180. We were leaving town and called them to see how much it was going to be so we could send them a check and were told it was now over $400, $320 labor for just the 35 minute sink install. We mailed them the amount but also enclosed a letter asking for an itemized receipt and expressing our displeasure at the jump in price for no reason. They cashed our check and we never heard from them (nor did they send us the receipt). We phoned them this afternoon, got a very belligerent woman on the phone who said nobody read the letter and nobody would respond and basically they can charge whatever they want and they do not care that we will never use them again. So, buyers beware, their customer service is the pits, they are overpriced and there are plenty of other rooter companies in town. read more

He arrived on time and worked fast. He said the drains were fine.... so he did not charge me for a service that was not needed. I recommend Robby's Rooter to my clients because they provide more service during a sewer inspection than other plumbers/sewer inspectors I have come across.
