A new Phoenix/Scottsdale favorite. Came in for happy hour (arrive at opening time 4, it fills up fast with locals). Excellent food/drink prices. Wife got the Huckleberry Margarita $8 (wow!) and chicken flatbread $12 (huge). Both were fantastic. I had a gin and tonic and chicken tinga tacos $13 (delicious but spicy). Let me start by saying I used to eat at Roaring Fork quite often but no longer. when it's good, it's great but if there is a problem with food or service, the follow up and customer service is non-existent. My most recent experience was order placed and delivered by Uber eats. The queso was non-edible. It came out like water and had to be thrown out. I called and spoke with the manager, Mark. His dismissive comment was that he had corrected the situation in the kitchen and if I had a problem with my order to contact, Uber eats not the roaring Fork. The order came from his kitchen at the very least I would have expected an offer to come get a replacement order. He was abrupt, dismissive and offered no apology or solution. In a service industry, this is an utter fail. read more

All entrees & cocktails deserve a ten IMO, but a 5 will have to do for this yelp rating. Dining for the first time here was truly exceptional, thank you fellow yelpers! Service was stellar. The perfectly made green chili pork stew appetizer is a must, and included on their HH menu. Amazing flavor with just the right amount of heat served with warm flour tortillas. I would kill for this recipe - enjoyed every bite. The frozen huckleberry margarita (included in their happy hour) is their signature drink for a reason - not overly sweet - perfect in every way. The happy hour 4-6pm offered here is fabulous, as both appetizers & cocktails are exceptional and a fabulous value these days. Even the old-fashioned we ordered was terrific served with its high end Luxardo cherry; our bartender was friendly & his expertise was appreciated. Dinner: the rainbow trout with almonds & capers, simply perfection, even the green beans on the plate were ultra flavorful. The fried chicken entree was tasty, the mashed wonderful; however, the pecan pie dessert was disappointing, way too sweet with chocolate chips? It did not belong in the same category as everything else we tried tonight, owould not order it again. This restaurant is going to be included on our permanent rotation when visiting Scottsdale. We love this restaurant and dine here often. The food is always excellent, and the servers are efficient and friendly, which makes dining here a pleasure. The only area that could be improved is the hostess station--check-in often feels disorganized, and the hostesses rarely interact with you, almost as if guests are an inconvenience. Located in Portales Corporate Center. Roaring Fork is the American Old West served in a stylish but comfortable environment. The restaurant is a little dark inside at the tables with the rich woods and dim lighting. They do also offer outdoor patio dining for those pleasant Arizona nights. The food served is high quality using local ingredients wherever possible. The Mixed Green Salad was fresh and delightful, perfectly dressed with a tasty cranberry vinaigrette. The 22 oz bone-in ribeye was wood flame grilled to the perfect medium rare temperature. The meat was extremely tender and very flavorful. The sides of Mexican street corn and spinach with onions were nice accompliments to the ribeye steak. Their specialty carrot cake was the only slight disappointment. It tasted more like a drier spice cake than a traditional moist carrot cake. Service was excellent. Our server, Jake, and the service staff were friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable for decent portions. Overall, it was an absolutely wonderful dining experience and I would certainly recommend Roaring Fork for that special occasion or simply a casual fun evening out. read more

I was shocked that I had never seen this place because WOW I was blown away!! Gorgeous palm trees outside the restaurant and when you walk in it's dimly lit with antlers on the walls and super cool light fixtures. I loved the steak salad, there was a very generous amount of steak and it was cooked perfectly. Dessert was OUT OF THIS WORLD- I'm not a big pecan pie person but WOW it was amazing!! We went to Roaring Fork on a whim and we were so glad we did. We didn't have a reservation (something I highly recommend having), and because of a cancellation we were able to get a table on the patio. Lucky us!!! Everything from service to cocktails, appetizers to steaks, and finally dessert...delicious! The wood grilled steaks may take a bit longer but are cooked to perfection. Things have gone downhill at Roaring Fork, sad to say (written in March 2025). They no longer have their super delicious cornbread and jalapeno mini muffins (these used to be on the table, in the way other restaurants serve chips, and they were so good, we genuinely came back JUST for the mini muffins). Crazy that they eliminated the best thing they ever made, but they did sort of "replace" them with an appetizer called Skillet Cornbread. Not as good - the mini muffins were flavor bombs, and the skillet cornbread is not very memorable in comparison. Such a loss. The ambiance is stuffy and loud, with many booths located near the kitchen, so patrons feel a constant wave of heat emanating toward them (not to mention adding the clatter of the crew to the too-close voices of fellow diners). There are really no inside booths that give you a sense of privacy or noise reduction. The service is friendly and minimally competent, but they no longer take the time to note if you marked your reservation with a special note, like "birthday," etc. On to the cocktails. Every single one was served in the wrong glass! Glassware is so important to the experience and flavor of a cocktail... surprised their bar game is so poor. We ordered a Huckleberry Margarita that was much too sweet and watered down, and an "Escalade", which was too añejo-forward to be enjoyed as a margarita (especially not in a Collins glass - should have been a small sipper). No reposado margarita on the menu - odd for a restaurant that is focused on Tex-Mex. The Green Chili Pork Stew has always been a crowd pleaser, but I wish they would serve it without the thick layer of flavorless fatty cheese on top (does nothing to enhance the dish), and with corn tortillas instead of flour. The Chilean Sea Bass had good flavor and was cooked well, but at $48 market price, served over a few stalks of thick asparagus (no rice or potato), the ahi tuna or the salmon may have been a better choice. Overall, with the unfortunate quality of the cocktails, the mediocrity of the meal, and the grievous loss of the mini muffins, we won't likely return. There are so many better restaurants in Scottsdale and beyond. It's a shame because they used to be much better. read more

6 of my friends and I were at Happy Hour tonight. Busy time on April 1! Our server, Richard, did an amazing job of serving us all, creating suggestions, and making sure we were all happy! Happy Hour is a busy time but he never ceased to smile and took photos of our group. We live next door but some of our friends will be leaving soon for the season. Thanks for a wonderful time. How do I start.....I eat out often and don't consider myself a fussy or demanding customer, but my party of 4 had 1 way overcooked NY Strip steak (wanted M/Rare, got Medium), 1 overcooked Halibut (hard to cut with a knife), and 1 slightly overcooked NY Strip steak (wanted M/Well but got Well). The short rib dish was the only good meal in the group. The meal took about 40 min to get the main dish which was a long time. We all ordered from the 3 course menu option that included a desert. Now comes desert...3 of us wanted the cheesecake then later told they were out of cheesecake. We didn't want the other options and asked if they could substitute a desert from the regular menu in place of the cheesecake. We were told no. Our very young server should have tried to get some accommodation from his manager but did not. The 3 of us reluctantly took the Pecan Pie. 2 of us got the pie right away but the 3rd had to wait 5 minutes because it was not readily available. The whole experience was a let down throughout the meal. All 4 of us, myself being local and our friends being visitors was our first time at this place. After a let down experience, the bill came and with tip, we were over $400. I never mind paying money for a decent meal, but this was by far not worth the overpriced meal we experienced. I strongly would not recommend nor will we return to this restaurant. I do hope a manager or someone within the company reads this review. For reference, we had reservations at 6:30PM on a Friday night. I went at length to post this review because a bad meal is one thing but paying $400 for it makes it intolerable. read more

My wife and I came last night to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately my experience was not a good one. Which is a real shame because we love this restaurant. Our reservation was at 7:45, and we were stated without issue next to the kitchen serving area. After a few minutes of looking at the menu we decided on 2 glasses of wine, along with the guacamole for an app, green chili pork and ribeye for entrees, and a side of the beets. Our waitress seemed very disassociated with our table as her taking our order was essentially the only time we saw her. Not only that, but my steak was extremely tough and fatty, and I was not given a steak knife so I was trying to hack away at this with a butter knife! I could only eat a portion of it. The beets were amazing, and so was the green chili pork. At the end, we waited for our waitress to ask us how we liked the meal, did we want dessert? But nothing, we watched her have a long conversation with the table behind us, and that table even received their food before we had to ask someone for a check. When we did get the check, it did not come with a customer copy OR a merchant copy, so we had nowhere to sign or leave a tip. They also never cleaned the table until we got up. We went to the front to talk about this, and the staff there was more than apologetic, giving us a discount, offering to get us dessert for my birthday and even getting me a little 'squish present'. I really hope to come back in the future as I love this restaurant, but last night was not the experience I was hoping for. read more

Busy place but we managed to get a spot 'outside' with a reservation. Their patio is quite enclosed at night with a roaring fireplace, so no worries abut being cold. Our server was awesome. She was helpful with menu ideas as this was our first visit. I chose the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. It was so good. I loved the corn topping it was as served with. So good. Even the bacon was crispy which often is not the case with bacon wrapped meals. Husband had the filet mignon. It was cooked perfectly. It's served a la carte so we also ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes. They were creamy and tasty. I liked their dessert menu that had the headings Forked and Forkless options. My husband & I have been wanting to come here for the longest time. We finally made it happen. Our service was wonderful the food was good. It was a Thursday night & not too packed during restaurant week. We opted to just try the traditional menu. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken & mashed potatoes which I kept stealing bites of perfect comfort food. I ordered the duck, I'm very particular about duck & this did not disappoint! It paired perfectly with the thin, crispy, flakey Brussels sprouts. We then saw they had a huckleberry cheesecake so I had to give that a try. The cheesecake was not what I was hoping for. But to be fair I also think that's because we also ordered the pecan pie. That was the true star of the night & just couldn't compare. If had it on my own it probably would have been fine. But the pecan pie had me wanting more even the next morning I'm still thinking about it. I'm excited because at Thanksgiving they sell whole pies. So check that off your list for Thanksgiving you will not be disappointed I promise! The slices are small so I do recommend not sharing just get your own slice. Don't judge me just enjoy ;) I'm excited and already planning our return to try some of their famous green chili Mac & a huckleberry margaritas which I didn't realize they had till after dinner. Stayed out in Mesa area for a golf trip and one of our guys saw this online so we went. Killer drinks. Decent prices too compared to where I'm from. Wings were really good, tender and awesome flavor. We also split the guacamole and I'm not a big guac guy but this was on point. I ate the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin over poblano grits and was very satisfied. Grits were done right. Roaring Fork is a classic American restaurant located in a business center - which means lots of parking!! My fiancé and I came during restaurant week (so sorry for the late review) and we loved our experience. We had made reservations through open table and were seated immediately. And the food was delicious. We both got different salads and enjoyed them both. We then of course wanted the filet mignon as our entree. The filet was cooked perfectly to our specifications and the mashed potatoes were creamy and paired so well with the meat. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate torte. It was delicious but nothing can beat the pecan pie that my fiancé had ordered (and unfortunately not pictured). I'm always a lover of chocolate but that pecan pie really made me question my decision. If you decide to come to this restaurant, definitely save some room for the pecan pie!! read more

Spent a late birthday dinner at Roaring Fork a few weeks back. I'm always skeptical about restaurants attached to "other things" - like office buildings. Don't let this dissuade you. It is a lovely restaurant with a great patio that is temperature controlled year round. Everything we had was great. But what absolutely knocked my socks off and has given me fever dreams since is the pot of green pork chili with warm tortillas. My husband and I visited Roaring Fork during Arizona Restaurant Week. We made reservations before the week using OpenTable. I'm glad I made the reservation, and the restaurant was busy. Our table was ready when we arrived 10 minutes early. If coming to Roaring Fork for a special occasions, even a date night, I would recommend asking for a table away from the kitchen. Our table was adjacent to the pass through window. There was a lot of activity there throughout our meal. As the servers were in a constant buzz of activity, it made it hard to relax through our meal. Our server did check on us often. I ordered my steak medium rare. What I received was closer to rare. (See pictures.) While I do not order steak often, for the most part, restaurants tend to overcook steaks. It was surprising to receive a steak underdone. The filet had great flavor. Protien came with three spears of asparagus, and a serving of mashed potatoes. Mixed green salad was sweet. Lettuce was tender. My husband ordered the duck. He found the green chili mac and cheese that the duck was served with to be mildly spicy. Our meals were finished with the chocolate chili torte and the berry cheesecake. Torte had deep, rich flavors. Cheesecake was rich and creamy. The cheesecake was our favorite part of the meal. Decor at Roaring Fork is that of a southwestern steakhouse. Even though the restaurant is housed in an office building, once inside, dinners are immediately transported away from an office setting. Away from the windows, the restaurant has a darker, more romantic feel. The front patio is bright, sunny, and still has an office building feel. The back patio is shaded in the late afternoon to evening, and has a more casual and modern feel. We visited on a Sunday. There was ample parking. Went here a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is right in Old Town Scottsdale with tons of parking, although we walked there from the hotel. Absolutely beautiful place inside with a nice patio. Wife had an expresso martini (or two) and I had some great Bordeaux (two or three). She had planked salmon with grilled asparagus, and I had a giant NY steak (like I needed it) which I couldn't finish served with some grilled veggies. What a great atmosphere and fantastic service!! Val was excellent as our server. The food was tremendous, green chili pork app is usually enough to savor, but the ribeye that came later??? Wow!
