I hadn't been here in at least 15 years. So I thought I would give it a try and I must say I was a little disappointed. First off the place is beautiful! When I walked in, there's a beautiful roaring fire. I sat at the bar and received excellent service. I think the Bartender's name was Tony And he was really awesome. I started with the chicken tortilla soup. Let's just say I've had better. I actually make better chicken tortilla soup, but that's another story. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest. It needed to be a little warmer, but I still enjoyed it. I decided to order the duck off of Tony's recommendation. The flavor of the duck was really good, but the skin was not crispy at all. In fact, the skin was very rubbery, which was a great disappointment. However, Toni was awesome and he decided to take the soup off of my bill since I was not happy with the Duck. He did say something interesting to me, though. He said that they see the duck in the afternoon and then I guess they cook it according to order. That seemed weird, but that could also explain why the skin was rubbery. It's kind of hard to heat up anything that seared without compromising the crust. I cook a lot so I expect a lot from restaurants. I probably would go back and try the big ass burger because I heard that's very very good! Overall, a nice place good service but they need to work on cooking duck properly!. Oh, I almost forgot! I ordered the smoked wings and brought them home to my husband. Now he is a wings official and he said the wings were extremely dry. He actually ended up throwing away the wings, which is something that he has never in his life done ! I haven't been here in several years, pre yelp elite days. Today they are going to get their accolades as deserved. Firstly, I am a Happy Hour honk for this place. We got their early, because we know the deal. The bar area fills up due to it's popularity. When you walk in, you are greated with a pleasant smoky smell. The place is a steak/seafood grill type restaurant. The decor is very southwest and fancyish. Don't come here looking like a bum. Food wise, I was here for the Green Chili Pork and the burger, on the happy hour menu. Green Chili Pork, I have tried to duplicate at home, but could not seem to get it right. The flavor, the tender meat, the cheesy goodness, it ticks all my big back boxes. The burger is a good hunk of meat and will fill up the heartiest of appetites. The sleeper were the wings. Holy portion and they were just delicious. Must get with the other items. The wine is good for a deal. The wife had the red blend and it was pleasure for any tastes. I didn't take any food pics, because I was starving, but there are plenty of examples of what I spoke on already. Val was our server, and was friendly and attentive. Let me start by saying I used to eat at Roaring Fork quite often but no longer. when it's good, it's great but if there is a problem with food or service, the follow up and customer service is non-existent. My most recent experience was order placed and delivered by Uber eats. The queso was non-edible. It came out like water and had to be thrown out. I called and spoke with the manager, Mark. His dismissive comment was that he had corrected the situation in the kitchen and if I had a problem with my order to contact, Uber eats not the roaring Fork. The order came from his kitchen at the very least I would have expected an offer to come get a replacement order. He was abrupt, dismissive and offered no apology or solution. All entrees & cocktails deserve a ten IMO, but a 5 will have to do for this yelp rating. Dining for the first time here was truly exceptional, thank you fellow yelpers! Service was stellar. The perfectly made green chili pork stew appetizer is a must, and included on their HH menu. Amazing flavor with just the right amount of heat served with warm flour tortillas. I would kill for this recipe - enjoyed every bite. The frozen huckleberry margarita (included in their happy hour) is their signature drink for a reason - not overly sweet - perfect in every way. The happy hour 4-6pm offered here is fabulous, as both appetizers & cocktails are exceptional and a fabulous value these days. Even the old-fashioned we ordered was terrific served with its high end Luxardo cherry; our bartender was friendly & his expertise was appreciated. Dinner: the rainbow trout with almonds & capers, simply perfection, even the green beans on the plate were ultra flavorful. The fried chicken entree was tasty, the mashed wonderful; however, the pecan pie dessert was disappointing, way too sweet with chocolate chips? I have been at the Roaring Fork several times and I liked the food. I ordered the pork and the waiter had the wrong meal, it was fish. Everybody were eating their food. I waited 45 min and no food. I got up and talked to the waitress as to my food. She started yelling at me out loud and I couldn't believe she was talking to me like that. I went to sit down. The place was packed when we came in for dinner on a weekday. After being seated we found out that they actually have a happy hour from open until close all summer long until Labor Day so I'm looking forward to coming back for that! Now for the food review... I forgot the name of the stew that my son ordered but it was an appetizer and a Mexican dish with flour tortillas, I ordered the BL T lettuce wedge which was huge and delicious, we ordered the chicken wings and I normally don't eat any of those but they looked and tasted great so I had a couple. It was a huge plate of wings. For dinner, I ordered the trout which was delicious, my son and his girlfriend had the fried chicken and hamburger. My daughter had the shrimp and grits. The dessert menu looked great but we felt ready to explode after all that food and huge portions. I will definitely be back and I would recommend this restaurant. You may have to GPS in order to actually get to it because every time I would go to the mall I would see it below the bridge and wasn't sure how to get there. Finally figured it out. I went here while in town for work and was looking for a good spot for a large group. I made a reservation which I highly recommend because it was busy. It's located next to a bunch of office building so I questioned how good it would be. To start, the service was excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. For apps, we had the cornbread and smoked chicken wings. The wings were good but the cornbread was out of this world! It's a must try. For my entree, I had the trout amandine. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS 4800 N Scottsdale Road Scottsdale, AZ 85251 I've been a restaurant critic for more than 19 years. I take this very seriously and try to be as objective as possible in my reviews. Three of us went to dinner during Restaurant Week. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. Our server Alyssa kept asking if "we" wanted this and that. I had no idea that she was part of our party. We all ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and all started off with the Caesar Salad. Unfortunately, it was washed but not dried and as a result was swimming in watered down dressing. For main course, companion #1 ordered the 8 oz Filet medium and was brought rare. After sending it back the same meat was cooked again and brought back. Companion #2 and I both ordered the Duck Breast. We were both served over cooked breasts with almost raw shaved Brussel Sprouts. The sour cherry glaze was non-existent, and the Green Chile Mac & Cheese was a bland green gummy blob that neither of us could get down. On to desserts. Companion #1 ordered Pecan Pie and was brought a inch thick slice of what was purported to be pecan pie but was like no other pecan pie any of us had ever seen. Devoid of flavor and lacking the most basic of fillings. Companion #2 ordered the Ancho Chocolate Torte. While that this was Ancho Chocolate was beyond doubt, there was an underlying flavor that just could not be covered up. For myself, I ordered the Huckleberry Cheesecake on a Graham Cracker Crust. I was brought a frozen disk of what looked like Safeway Cheesecake that was nigh on impossible to cut into. As for the huckleberries, I never found them. Sanitation - The restroom was a mess with cleaning supplies out in the open and a can of drano in the handicap stall. Black light inspection revealed stains or urine on the seat and floor. Service - Our wait person did a horrible job of table waiting. She was more interested in putting the food on the table as fast as possible than anything else. Turning tables is important but not at the expense of eating guests. We were seated near the door to the outside dining area and the door was propped open allowing flies to dine at their leisure on customers' food. This restaurant...We originally had reservations to a "tourist trap" $$$$$$$$ rated price wise restaurant, which I am sure would be good food? Instead, I looked for a restaurant that was known for great service, a Southwestern American flare, a variety of dishes in an accesible area. After looking at about 20+ restaurants (you know what I mean...many tabs open on browser of a myriad of suggested restaurants, looking at and comparing menus and reviews...), I settled on Roaring Fork. Located in a corporate/ business setting, pretentious was NOT the style of this restaurant: rather, great service and friendliness was!!! **(ABOUT THE ACTUAL RESTAURANT AND NOT THE BORING PRETEXT!!)** We sat on the outside porch area, because it was so nice outside, even though we were originally reserved for an in dining room table (I WILL get to food!!). Super easy and no problem to go outside. We started with the skillet cornbread and queso con puerco. Okay. If I were to be stuck on a desert island, I would choose these two dishes to live off for eons. The cornbread was airy, with a good texture of the corn, and not dense or overly drying when eating. Beautiful! Art from their heart, so I definitely ate it!! The queso con puerco...neither my sister nor brother in law eat pork..but they were scooping up the dish and fighting for the last morsel. Creamy, well balanced and with a nice "kick" and acidity to balance out with the green chili and salsa verde. I got the Shrimps and grits (legit after the wonderfully patient server waited for me to debate and decide between the many great choices!!!!). The shrimp was perfectly cooked, and grits were smooth enough with that "texture" to accompany the smooth, sweet corn butter with chorizo oil. My brother in law raved about the Prime bone-in ribeye (he would not let us try...and he is one of the most food generous peoples I know!). My sister got the Buttermilk chicken. Again, I was not allowed to try, since she gobbled it up! Server was EXTREMELY knowledgable about the menu and dishes, and it was a great dinner out. So why not 5 Stars? Because I reserve 5 stars for truly unique "you could not get this anywhere else but this restaurant" dishes. I had been here once before, but i wasn't aware they have a happy hour on the weekend. The happy hour menu is limited, but there are a few options. We ordered the queso con puerco which was delicious. Normally we don't order appetizers but I thought the entrees would be smaller since it's the happy hour menu, but I was wrong. I ordered the steak salad which was huge and really tasty. My boyfriend ordered burger which he enjoyed. The restaurant was busy and I suggest making reservations. However you do not need to make reservations to be seated in the bar area and enjoy the happy hour menu. I will definitely be back. read more

the moment we walked in the door unbeknownst to us, Lena laid in wait to ensure our dining experience was top tier. We visited for a birthday dinner. Once we were seated, Kaylee our server immediately greeted us with glasses of ice water. Our party had tons of questions about the menu in which she answered with an ease and confidence that you would think they were her recipes. The birthday boy who had been engaged with Lena was in awe when complimentary food items began arriving at our table. We enjoyed, truffle fries a delicious wood plank salmon (pictured) and a delectable pork chop. The only non issue I had was although delicious, my Manhattan had a tad bit too much ice. W The salad was fresh, the main course was Braised short ribs with Mashed potatoes (while flavored well, this came out lukewarm with more bone and fat than mea). Decided to go out for dinner in Scottsdale and have had pretty good experiences with going to parties at The Roaring Fork. It was a weeknight so we receded immediately and decided to sit outside. They do have a fairly nice patio on the side of the building. The service was very good the restaurant was clean Little on the expensive side but the food was well prepared and worth it. Roaring fork has a really popular happy hour. Think people waiting in line for it to open on a Saturday. Salads are delicious and a bargain at $7. Their house cab is Bogle and their red blend is 19 crimes - $6 on happy hour. The skillet cornbread (not happy hour) is also tasty. We went for a filet and New York for entrees. We both had just the shallot butter, which was really good. Staff is polite and had good recommendations. We had a comfortable booth in the bar. Nice comfortable overall ambience. read more

Wife got the Huckleberry Margarita $8 (wow!) and chicken flatbread $12 (huge). Both were fantastic. I had a gin and tonic and chicken tinga tacos $13 (delicious but spicy). How do I start.....I eat out often and don't consider myself a fussy or demanding customer, but my party of 4 had 1 way overcooked NY Strip steak (wanted M/Rare, got Medium), 1 overcooked Halibut (hard to cut with a knife), and 1 slightly overcooked NY Strip steak (wanted M/Well but got Well). The short rib dish was the only good meal in the group. The meal took about 40 min to get the main dish which was a long time. We all ordered from the 3 course menu option that included a desert. Now comes desert...3 of us wanted the cheesecake then later told they were out of cheesecake. We didn't want the other options and asked if they could substitute a desert from the regular menu in place of the cheesecake. We were told no. Our very young server should have tried to get some accommodation from his manager but did not. The 3 of us reluctantly took the Pecan Pie. 2 of us got the pie right away but the 3rd had to wait 5 minutes because it was not readily available. The whole experience was a let down throughout the meal. All 4 of us, myself being local and our friends being visitors was our first time at this place. After a let down experience, the bill came and with tip, we were over $400. I never mind paying money for a decent meal, but this was by far not worth the overpriced meal we experienced. I strongly would not recommend nor will we return to this restaurant. I do hope a manager or someone within the company reads this review. For reference, we had reservations at 6:30PM on a Friday night. I went at length to post this review because a bad meal is one thing but paying $400 for it makes it intolerable. read more

Excellent dishes with gourmet presentation. Absolutely everything that we tried was five stars - from the appetizers to main dishes to dessert. The service was incredible and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. This is definitely the place for a nice dinner in an upscale, but relaxed establishment. Heads up: The only way I'd avoid Roaring Fork is if I were taking out someone elderly or lacking mobility, as the men's room is about a 40 yard walk down a back hallway of the restaurant. read more

This was an unexpected 5-star meal at such a great steakhouse. As soon as you walk in you can instantly feel the warmth from the fire and smell the amazing wood burning from the kitchen. The Caesar salad had the best croutons I've had in a long time. The filet could practically be cut with a fork. The salmon was delicious. We ordered the mashed potatoes which were also so good we ordered another side of them. Dessert didn't disappoint either when we shared the berry cheesecake. My friend and I haven't been back here in a few years. Meeting friends, they wanted to meet for "happy hour." First reaction was ugggg, because I've read of the popularity of the happy hour, great drinks and food, it is gets crowded fast... so get in line, wait and hope you get a spot. We met up the Friday of the start of July 4th weekend at 3:30 p.m. (as I was told to by our friends). When I went inside the hostess said "Hello you're first" LOL. I asked "do lines of aggressive customer really form out the door for HH?" and she replied laughingly a "YES!" As the lines were forming and waiting for the 4:00 opening bell, I noticed there were a lot of people. We secure a high top table for 4, Val was our server who was wonderful throughout our HH there. Now I know and can confirm why it gets so crowded. Service and food were excellent for the HH prices... no skimping here. I did wish they had more of a selection of craft cocktails.
