Roaming Rooster is a nice little spot for lunch. This was my first time at roaming rooster and I wanted to see how they compare to other chicken sandwich spots around the area. Their chicken comes out very hot and fresh. The batter has a nice crisp. The honey butter sandwich I chose had nice flavor and the cheese you can taste. I chose medium spicy and it wasn't really spicy at all to me. The fries are also good and remind me of Five Guys fries but less oily. It was fairly quiet inside on a weekday for lunch. The chicken here is spot on, and you may not get the levels of heats at Dave, but the chicken you bite into is so juicy. The fries here are excellent too, very comparable to five guys. Starting on a positive Roaming Roosters makes one of my favorite chicken sandwiches, but sadly every time I order from the Tyson's location I am disappointed. I always order the honey butter sandwich with no heat. The spice is usually intense (for someone who doesn't like spicy), my husband always gets mild heat and they taste almost the same. The real issue I am having is the sandwich is completely dry. No honey butter, no sauce, nothing EVERY SINGLE TIME. If I wanted a plan boring sandwich I would go to any other shop and actually get what I am ordering. I love this business and their food, but this location puts a bad name on their amazing sandwiches. I will make the extra drive to the Burke location, everything about that location is so much better. From location, to service and most importantly THE FOOD QUALITY! Way back in 2015, Roaming Rooster launched as DC area Food Truck...and quickly escalated to one of the busiest and most popular wherever it would ve on a given day. Well, by default, it comes with two plump, seasoned and battered fried fillets - not one slim fillet like most chicken sandwiches. Always made to perfection with a balance of juiciness and crispiness, then comes a slice of sharp cheddar that really compliments the chicken. Laid out on a soft bun, the last step is a slathering of honey butter love. In today's case, I added thick-cut bacon to give the sandwich some extra protein and salty goodness. Now, by its nature, Honey Butter melts...so makes for a messy sandwich. But, you may have a better, less sticky experience if you ask for the honey butter on the side and use as a dipping sauce. I actually recommend that for those who are trying for the first time. If you also get a side of sriracha mayo, you can have the goodness of two sandwiches in one! To accompany my sandwich, it's hard to not recommend the highly addictive twice-fried fries. So good! Now, many rave about the Nashville Hot Sandwich, but despite the temptation to try, thus far I've stuck with my standard staple of the HB Chicken Sandwich. Maybe one day I'll get that Nashville groove, but not today! Having been a patron of their food truck in NOMA for years, it was one of the meals I missed the most when COVID hit. I'm so glad they were able to open up brick and mortar stores, and finally got a chance to try the Tyson's one. It lived up to the great chicken sandwich I remembered- that spicy crispy chicken is still just as delicious. The heat and flavor was all there liked I had hoped. The service was friendly and fast. My only complaint would be the parking is not great- limited street parking and a confusing garage situation. But this is still one if the best fried chicken sandwiches in the area. read more

When my parents went to Virginia recently, they brought some back for me. I deconstructed it to warm up the chicken in the air fryer and didn't realize how much meat they give! I've been hearing so much hype about Roaming Rooster that it was about time I check them out! I've only ever had Wooboi hot chicken sandwiches. Their sandwiches kind of remind me of the Popeyes sandwiches, very big and crispy, but I do have to say, if you have really good spice tolerance, definitely go for the Hot or Extra Hot Spice levels. Medium at Wooboi was my limit, but the Medium at Roaming Rooster wasn't spicy to me at all! The fries were very similar to the Five Guys style fries, cajun seasone. Just like most of the people here, I didn't have a great experience. Heard so many good things about their other location and I just never had the chance to head out there so I was glad they came closer. Highly disappointed. We came right when they opened so I thought the food would be good and fresh! Boy I was wrong. I am a huge huge fan of Wooboi and compare everything to them. At least this location has absolutely nothing on Wooboi or even Popeyes. The chicken didn't have any flavor, what happened to a little salt and pepper? The ranch really made it flavorful but that's it. Even the kids didn't eat their tenders and I knew there was an issue from that since it's their favorite. Is it supposed to be crispy at least? It was just flattened chicken. No crispy, no flavor, no anything. A wasted cheat meal. Also the chicken in the sandwich was basically 3 flattened tenders. Unlike the Wooboi or even Hot Lola's that give you a big, meaty, crispy piece of chicken. Fries at least were decent but nothing special. Soo disappointed but I think it was worse that people hyped up how good this place is and it turned out to be tasteless. Order: 1buffalo chicken sandwich 6 regular nuggets with ranch Large lemonade Total with 15% tip was around $20. Yes, it's a little pricey but I'm glad I didn't let that deter me. I had no idea the sandwich was going to come with 2 chicken fried chicken filets. I was pleasantly surprised. Each filet was well seasoned and fried just right. The Buffalo sauce had great flavor and a nice kick with out the spice being overwhelming. I believe I got the mild since this was my first time giving them a try . The nuggets were made with real chicken, seasoned and fried. Tasty Lemonade was refreshing and did not taste like it was made from a powder (thankfully). The only negative part about our experience was that both bathrooms were out of order. There was very little interaction with staff since we used the kiosk to place our order. I have been to the Roaming Rooster location on Bladensburg Road in NE DC, compaled to my experience in DC, this Roaming Rooster left me at a loss for words. The OG Nashville Sandwich had no flavor, no heat and definitely no soul. Popeyes Spicy Chicken Sandwich is far superior o the OG Nashville Sandwich at this outpost of Roaming Rooster. I am not sure if the difference in the sandwich between DC and Tysons is due to trying to expand to new locations too fast, training of the staff or some other reason. One thing i do know this sandwich was not good. The fries were pedestrian and the atmosphere was stark and cold. Next time I crave an OG Nashville Sandwich, i will skip the Tysons location and head over to Fort Lincoln area of DC. read more

Usually pull up to this area to do my grocery shopping at Walmart. I noticed this unfamiliar restaurant. Turns out it's brand new. So I knew I definitely had to check it out. Inside it looked like a nice fast food spot. The workers were very friendly in assisting me with my order. I think I went back and forth 5 times in my order and she was very patient. Oh my god. This was AMAZINGGG. BANGER. Definitely better than Chik Fil As chicken sandwich and Popeyes chicken sandwich. The sauce they put was sooo unique. The sweetness went really well with the spicy chicken. Furthermore there was a melted cheese that fit right along. I know mcdonald's chicken sandwich has a piece of cheese which in my opinion does not fit well with the sandwich. However in this case the flavor of the cheese matched the sauce and the chicken. Honestly this place surpassed my expectations. I am a big fan of fried chicken sandwiches and I am glad I found one that beats the main contenders. Located right outside next to the Walmart in Tysons, this place is the perfect spot to stop by and grab some dinner after grocery shopping. The staff are super nice and chill. It was my first time trying Roaming Rooster and I got the Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich which was sooooo good! The sweetness of the honey butter was melted all over the chicken which complimented well with the medium fire sauce. The sandwich itself consisted of two giant pieces of chicken making it super filling and definitely worth the price. I wish they had combinations but the French fries were also pretty good for the price. It reminds me of Five Guys French fries, well seasoned but without the Cajun. I had heard good things about Roaming Rooster but was disappointed to find their chicken falling a bit flat. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I was expecting more oomph. The honey butter fried chicken sandwich was a bit bland, and the bun reminded me a bit of McDonald's buns. I was hoping for a bit more sweetness, and also a bulkier piece of chicken with less breading. While less bland, I have a similar report for the Nashville hot chicken-- it would benefit from thicker pieces of chicken and less breading too. I might give the DC location a shot too. read more

Decided to come here with the bf once we found out there would be a closer location out in Tysons. Neither of us are fans of driving around DC, so this was the perfect opportunity to try the Roaming Rooster, considering all the great things we heard about it on social media. My boyfriend got the OG Nashville sandwich hot level. With his first initial bite, there was no heat. It wasn't until his third bite that it finally came through and he could finally taste it. For him, this was slightly disappointing as a spicy lover. He did however like the vinaigrette coleslaw that came with his sandwich and said that it was tasty and complemented the heat and the crispiness of the chicken well. I ordered the honey butter sandwich medium level, just in case it was too spicy (it wasn't). The sandwich was good enough, but not to the extent that a flavor bomb went off in my mouth. We also got a side of fries. Fries reminded me of Five Guy's just a touch saltier so not much to note there. Something I also noticed was that the portion of chicken here was on the smaller side. Like half a size smaller. The chicken sandwiches at Wooboi's are priced around the same, but their portion of chicken definitely runs on the larger side in comparison. As in, I'm usually only capable of getting through half of it at most larger (just to give you an idea). In the end, we weren't all that impressed. If anything, sandwich was decent at best. Would I come back here? Not likely unless I'm in the area and this is the closest option nearby. Although to be fair, bf and I were speculating that it might just be the location, and that we may have to bite the bullet and try out the original spot in DC instead. Cutting straight to the point, the chicken sandwich is decent. I think it is on par or slightly not as good as Popeyes or Chick-fil-A. I ordered the Honey butter sandwich (mild) and the OG Nashville (mild). What's nice is there was plenty of chicken to bread ratio but I found the chicken meat to be dry. When it comes to the sauces and seasoning I think they were pretty good. By ordering Mild, i expected it to have a mild kick but it was hot! The honey butter was decently coated over the chicken and was tasty. I had never had Nashville hot chicken but based off pictures and videos i expected it to be with some oil and spice. This location opened right across from the nail salon I go to and while I typically go and enjoy dinner and cocktails after my mani and pedi, yesterday was a super casual day so I decided to change it up and grab a quick bite from Roaming Rooster. While the menu is limited, I think they stick to what they do best which is chicken. There were about 4 different chicken sandwich options and I went with the OG Nashville Sandwich which the cashier highly recommend. You can select your heat factor which ranges from 1-4 I believe, and it also comes dressed with a vinaigrette slaw and pickles... oh and you can pick a dipping sauce to accompany the sandwich too but I opted not to have one so I could taste the sandwich in its pure state. They cook each order fresh and there's nothing premade which means there's a little wait for your food which is cool, but when I tell you IT IS WORTH THE WAIT .... BAAAABBBBYYYY! This dang sandwich SLAPPED! I planned to take it home and eat it but once I peeked in that box the plan changed and I had to eat that bad boy IN THE CAR!!! Every single element of this sandwich was PERFECTION! The chicken was perfectly seasoned and golden fried ... the pickles were thick and tangy with a bite .... the slaw wasn't overpowering but offered the right crunch factor and the bread was soft and pillowy and had to be a potato bun! I was soooo tempted to prance right back in and order another but I had to remember my "summer body", UGH!
