This is a hidden diamond on the outskirts of Bastrop on Highway 21 going toward The City of Cardwell. From the outside, this looks just like an old burger joint outside but once you get inside you would be amazed by the memorabilia and the wonderful customer service. I preview the menu before I arrived and I did not see any pictures of the ribeye steak so I took it upon myself to order the ribeye steak and asked for it to be cooked medium-rare. To my surprise when the steak came out it was cooked perfectly and smelled divine I've had a lot of steaks in many cities in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, but in the small town of Bastrop, I was completely amazed by the flavor of the ribeye steak that I was cutting into and enjoying. A 12-ounce ribeye steak is hard to cook medium rare because it's not a stick is a 16-ounce steak, but this steak was cooked beautifully I was very pleased by the flavor the seasoning of the steak this would have to be one of my top 10 places in Texas to get a good Ribeye steak. The salad was freshly made you could tell by the crispy salad and the wonderful dressing. The steak came with fries that were well seasoned and very nicely cooked. Raven our waitress was very on the spot with the fresh unsweetened Ice Tea. She was also very knowledgeable about all the menu items. This is a wonderful restaurant and a very surprising establishment to have a delicious ribeye steak. Plenty of parking. Walk-in and seat yourself. Not meant for large groups. A lot of 2 and 4 tables. When they are busy expect a wait. Order drinks and food at the same time bc the waiters are running and working hard. Hubby and I shared the burger (everything but the kitchen sink) fries and a beer. We both got full. What a gem! Fairly priced too! We started with fried pickle spears, loads of dill-and I love dill. My husband got the jalapeño cream cheese burger. He had the jalapeño's grilled. It was amazing! I got the mushroom Swiss burger, it was gone-clean plate club! I didn't realize I needed a burger until we sat down, follow your stomachs folks, this place didn't disappoint! Such a cute place. We went at lunch time. It was definitely full and the poor waitress was working so hard. But she had it handled. We did have to wait a little while longer then usual but I can't blame anyone for it, when you are short staffed your short staffed. The food as always was amazing. 4.3 STARS! It's been awhile since I stopped in for a burger here. I've had a few more awesome burgers so it was time to see how l Roadhouse compared again. The burgers are good. They lack a little seasoning but you won't complain. They are never over cooked and always topped with a tasty bun. The famous jalapeño cream cheese burger was super hot. I didn't use the whole slab of cream cheese it came with. It wasn't as juicy as last time but still worth the stop. The kids hot dog is a giant sausage dog. The fries are standard frozen regular cut fries so nothing different. Service was super nice and fast. I would say that I'll be back in another year for another try. Enjoy! The Queso had some good heat so the kids wouldn't touch it. I liked it. The green chili pork fries were soggy other then the top level. The pork had heat too. That's the great thing about their heat. I give the Bastrop Roadhouse five stars! I visited the Bastrop Roadhouse again last Friday, and it was as great as it always is! Not many people know that they serve a special on Friday-Beer battered Shiner Bock fried fish! I love the way they make this fish, and it pairs wonderfully with the best sweet potato fries I have ever had. On top of that, I had an old gift certificate, and they honored it! The service was really top notch, and the owner came by several times to make sure we were happy with our meals. The other item ordered was "the Destruction Burger." While I loved the fish, the Destruction Burger was simply delicious, and when I go back, that is what I am having. Be sure to check out the new buidling they just opened next to the original building. It is quieter and cooler, much more spacious. I live in Bastrop, but wherever you are, this is worth the drive. read more

We came here on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch. It is casual, you seat yourself and a server will bring you menus. We received great service and our server was very friendly. Two people in our party ordered a chicken dinner that also comes with a salad (not pictured) they both loved their meals and said the chicken was delicious and cooked perfectly. They said the potatoes reminded them of their grandmas cooking. Someone else ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich and they said the flavor was good but they didn't finish the meal because they said it was too bready. I got their mushroom Swiss burger because this is a burger joint and I wanted to try what they are known for. The burgers are huge. It tasted like a burger I could make at home but it was still delicious and pretty fairly priced. Overall, we had a positive experience. read more

I've eaten here many times. However, I was there yesterday, and got my usual meal. Wgen I got the bill I was shocked.​ I had ordered a Ceasar salad with chicjen and ice tea. The price had gone up $4.00 for a total of $24. Come on guys, this was not an artisibal salad or an organic salad. It was just lettuce, grated cheese, bread crumbs and chicken. To add chicken was $9. I can go a quarter of a mile to Chappala and get really good bar-b-que ribs and all tge free chips and salsa i want for the same price. It was an average salad. I won't be back. We recently visited Roadhouse on our way to Canyon Lake. The service was fast and friendly, the vibe was rustic with outside seating. The food was really good and had a some unique options. We all enjoyed the taste of the food and it was delivered very quickly and was hot and fresh. My only complaint was that I ordered a glass of Cabernet, and it was horrible. I couldn't even finish it. Ok. I'm super torn on this review. My burger was cold. And I didn't get the bun I ordered. BUT there was a huge wreck in the parking lot. Super scary. Thank God no one was walking across the parking lot! But once everything settled down, we ordered the loaded fries from the appetizers. So good! Great queso!! We actually saved the left over to put on our burgers. The service was great, once we got seated. I'm thinking they were short handed like everyone else. But those girls hustle!! This was our second visit. The fries are really good for being frozen. Not sure why restaurants just won't serve homemade fries. 5 Guys is fast food and they do it. ‍ but the fries are still good. This is definitely one of the better establishments in Bastrop. Great service, a bit crowded, but also a bit loud being right by Highway 21. You can bring your pupper which is a plus, and it's a killer stop after a long hike or bike ride. The food is steady, and there are lots of fun options for a burger joint. Located on Highway 21 on the east side of Bastrop and about a mile north of the Bucee's on Highway 71, the Roadhouse is certainly worth a few minutes of side trip. This is a country Roadhouse with all the ambiance, friendly service, music, and great burgers and comfort food. It is a small structure with a few tables for those that like the fresh air of the country. Don't forget about the beer selection, this is pure Texas. Prices are very reasonable. I strongly encourage you to ignore the food restaurant chains, get off the main highway just a bit, and take in the atmosphere of the country. read more

What a cool little spot off the side of the highway! Fried pickles were hand breaded and very crispy and warm. I got the bean patty burger and I think they make that there too.
