    Plain slice
    David Y.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon while I was in Jersey City. I wanted a quick bite and found this place via Yelp. Read the reviews and saw the pics and wanted to give it a shot and glad I did. Once you enter, there is a bakery in the front and in the back is where the pizza area is at. The place is bright and has an old school bakery vibe to it. Got a plain slice ($3.50) and was surprised how big it was. Pizza was really good and for the price, you cannot beat it. Looking back at the reviews, a slice was $2.75!? The server at the pizza station was very nice. If your in the mood for great pizza for a great price, this is the spot! I will be back for sure to try the cannolis. * indoor dining with several tables * street parking * bathroom available

I really like this place! No frills, very authentic. I heard them speaking Italian. Bakery at the front and then you can walk in the back and order pizza, you can ask for any toppings. $3.50 a cheese dice. They are huge and thin and crispy and delicious. I got the Italian cheesecake slice too, $5. Pretty good, I liked the texture and not too sweet. It was a little too lemony though. I can't wait to try the leaf cookies and rainbow cookies I got. There are a couple of tables to eat in there too. I will definitely come back

(Tookout 12/20/21 MO @ 6:00pm): Sure... they had a bakery, but so much more Italian goodies could be found here! My first night in Jersey City having just landed in the early morning, I asked my friend to show me around the neighborhood during the day and settled on Rizzo's Bakery which was a few minutes walking distance from my friend's place. She kept raving about the pizza in the area, and because of that I stopped eating pizza for nearly two months so I was prepared for some exploration of this 5th food group. How would my first official pizza in Jersey City be!? PURCHASE Large 16" Vegetable Pizza ($20.00): This 8-slice pie loaded with green, orange, and red bell peppers along with mushroom, spinach, tomato, white onion, mozzarella cheese, and marinara sauce, this was a fabulous pie made with joy and love by the gentleman behind the order counter in front of the pizza oven. All the ingredients were fresh and homemade. As simple a pie this was (and still tasted great days later after a brief moment in the microwave), it was a tasty meal https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=e8yT2tENf9pvOLjIRLKz0A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Eggplant Parmigiana Hot Sandwich ($6.50): A go-to whenever I ordered food from an Italian restaurant, I simply loved this item if done right. Again, everything seemed to be homemade from the flaky light bread, excessive mozzarella cheese, and light marinara sauce. The eggplant was meaty, plentiful, and seemed to have a slight rosemary seasoning. Obviously, this was a meal on its own, but we devoured this along with large pizza slices https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=41euQOwNWhW5l_qZ3e6s6A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. 6pc Mozzarella Sticks ($6.50): Another one of my go-tos when I ordered food from an Italian restaurant, I found these standard and nothing that stood out. However, the dipping sauce appeared to be homemade which I liked albeit a bit on the thin side https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=DRxWz20TzUj8C1ONk8HPdA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Cannoli ($2.50 x2): This simple Italian pastry filled only with creamy sweet ricotta, this was pure dessert bliss and could've eaten more. I wondered if they had other varieties https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=A6UAWjhw0fQQuSoOUxYTYg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw!? Bauli Il Panettone Classico ($3.25): Come on... who didn't love panettone https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=SACWEMaP9FnSx4D5OYQXQw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw!? SERVICE Greeted by a very kind but only Siciian-speaking grandma, she guided us towards the back of the store to place our order with a young woman. We went next door to the liquor store as we waited for our order. About 20 minutes later, we returned and chatted with the friendly man who baked our pizza and put together our order. Soon enough, we had our order and on our way to indulge - ciao! PARKING (FREE; N/A in this instance) We walked, so parking wasn't an issue. Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of spots along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A quaint space with a bakery counter at the front, a deli display case https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ol2DdUnogyLQzgQUtaojpw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and grocery shelves https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=AOv8wZR4eyGO2-mDv6wywQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw in the middle, and then a couple chairs/tables and a refrigerated cooler towards the back https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0HGTAnfil3ECTMrLxLNJ8A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. This was a no-frills establishment. Decent natural lighting came through the large front glass windows and soul-sucking fluorescent electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There was one TV but no background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uMia665dRF83EuWNldqEpw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Temperatures were in the 30s, so I was bundled-up from head-to-toe. Otherwise, this place was totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Rizzo's Bakery was another winner in my book for the neighborhood locally known as "The Heights". From the time we entered to when we left, there was a sense of family for all customers that came in. Everything and everyone was wonderful from the food, prices, and service. And, it was always a pleasure to support small local mom & pop businesses like this one... which apparently has been in business since 1983. I found total value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $43.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

PURCHASE [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($5.00): A large container filled with oddly similarly-sized rings, these were hot, medium-browned, semi-crunchy, and didn't have a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) stayed intact. All of the pizzas were already sitting out on the counter, and they just warm up whatever you pick in the oven. We ended up getting 5 different flavors to try out. To wrap it up: this was my first-ever "New York slice." It was good, but not great, and definitely didn't live up to the Instagram hype.
