I have personally witnessed the owner become rude and nasty with customers while there are other customers in the store. The pizza isn't bad the dough can sometimes be soft but it's the service that brings customers back. They have to get better with their service. I won't be returning. Food: I did a cheese slice again this time, a wild improvement! Great cheese to sauce ratio, and full of flavor. I like that it's brick oven-- took a point off overall because even though it's crispy it's still got the little brunt taste on parts of the crust. I am leaving this review because I want people, particularly people of color, to understand my experience before deciding whether to patronize this establishment. I asked the owner a simple question about the frosting on a cake because I wanted to understand the ingredients for allergy reasons. The cakes are personally made by the owner, so there is no packaged bakery label that I could simply look at. I was asking a reasonable question about food I was considering giving my child. Instead of simply answering my question, the owner became extremely rude and belittling toward me and went off on me in front of my young son and other people in the restaurant. During the interaction, the owner told me herself how stressful and difficult it was to be behind the counter and run the establishment as she was short handed because her staff keeps quitting. I genuinely tried to be supportive. I told her that I wanted women to win, regardless of their shade, and I offered to help her stock her shelves for free because I wasn't busy. She declined and said she did not need my help. Before that, however, she had asked me what I did for a living and what companies I worked for. She then told me that what I do for a living was nothing compared to what she does. That interaction was deeply disrespectful. She had no idea who I was, what my professional background was, or what I could contribute, yet she made assumptions about me and diminished my work after questioning me about it. As a Brown woman, I experienced the way I was treated as racially motivated. I cannot speak to what was in her mind, but I can speak to what happened to me and how I experienced it. What happened afterward made the experience even more concerning. The owner sent me a private message attacking my character, calling me "strange," dismissing my professional experience, and telling me that I needed therapy for my "stress and anger issues." She also criticized the way I supposedly speak to my child and used that to make judgments about my character. That accusation is particularly disturbing because she did not witness me speaking to my child in the inappropriate manner she described. That did not happen. She made an assumption about my parenting and presented it as though she had witnessed something inappropriate when she did not. There is also a contradiction in her comments about stress. During our interaction, she was the one who told me that running the business and being behind the counter was stressful and difficult. Rather than responding to my feedback about how I experienced her behavior, she later used "stress and anger issues" to attack me personally. I am sharing this review because I believe people deserve to know the full context of my experience. Customers should be able to ask reasonable questions about ingredients, especially when allergies are involved, without being belittled, questioned about their profession, having their work diminished, or being personally attacked. I came into this establishment willing to support another woman-owned business. I left feeling deeply disrespected and, as a Brown woman, concerned about how I was treated. I can't remember when but it was over a year ago maybe a year and a half we had a Sicilian pie. It was the best pizza the crust was fluffy like it was made in a bakery. The sauce was nice and garlicky! Then we got a few pies for my son's bday party in June 2025 it looked flat and soggy. We didn't even complain about it. It was nothing like the pie I had the first time. Over a year later I ordered a pie today. I asked for the pizza to be not burnt but when I opened the pie it was flat and not cooked throughout. I called back and the lady that answered said well you asked for light no I asked for it to not be burnt I didn't know that meant the dough would not be fully cooked. Now they were nice when I ordered the pizza and when I picked up but when I called back she just said you asked for it light. And said next time you can do it regular. She didn't really offer a solution for today. I asked her if I put it in my oven would it come out right. It's currently in my oven. I'm so mad I could have gotten a pizza from vinnies for less but wanted to see if the pizza would be like the first time. Well pizza dough still looks raw After cooking . Will never event shop at this place again. When I was handed the pizza today she even said oh this is a heavy one. It was heavy bc the dough was not cooked . 30 dollars down the drain. No solution was offered for today it was like she was in a rush to get me off the phone with no solution it was my fault for asking for a pizza that wasn't burnt. I have worked in customer service and this is not the way you handle anything in the food service industry. She literally said next time just ask for it regular. What about this time. The only reason I'm giving two stars is bc the first time pizza was so good like the best pizza I ever had. I know customers can be annoying but the way this was handled was not right. I recently ordered delivery to the Heights (Yay!) and tried Pompei Pizza's pasta dishes and cheesy garlic bread. I had the rigatoni vodka, added basil to it, and it was so good! Pompei is going to be my new go-to for lazy pasta nights. My fella had the spaghetti meatballs and loved it. We both had enough food for two meals, and prices were good, would have been way better if I had picked up to avoid Slice's delivery fee. They don't sell garlic bread, but rather cheesey garlic bread which we tried and was good but not my favorite. read more

So, I restarted going back to Pompei once I heard the business had new owners. I'm pleased to say the pizza is still fantastic and now they have their own baked goods!! the space is still open and welcoming, the staff is super friendly and always a pleasure interacting with . The pizza is thin but crunchy and super tasty. Two slices came out to $5.50! I gotta tell you their pizza is fantastic . I need to buy some of their baked goods next time I'm in there. We were sad when Pompei closed down, but ever since it reopened under new management it's been even better. The pizza is delicious, the wings are great (the naked ones are better than the breaded), the tira misu is amazing, and the cannolis are also very good. The owner is great and the staff are all friendly. Went to a wine pairing event here, January 2024. I remember this pizza spot a million years ago when I lived in the area, nice folk, nice vibe, consistent quality, and they kept it all simple and reasonable. Lo and behold, the new owners understand that. They reopened with the same vibe and attitude, respectful to the area, and the quality. Yay! The tasting felt like going to someone's grandma's house. She was gonna give you lil samples, but you were still gonna leave stuffed & boozed. The wine was flowing, matched perfectly by Notes INTL, and everyone warmed up and mingled in anticipation. I had a Cacio e Pepe risotto ball filled with creamy ricotta... lawd... it was heavenly-ly crispy edged with soft wonderful cheesey insides, a dollop of tomato sauce to rest on, and a lil shredded cheese to let you know they cared. I knew from this taste of tomato sauce the rest was gonna be excellent. Someone spent time on that sauce. A Winter Slice (pancetta, preserved fig, caramelized onion. And this is what's gonna make me get off a bus to get a pie and get a rideshare home. The crust on their pizza is perfection. Not so thick to make you guilty about the cardio you should of done, but crispy enough to work with any topping and not dominate the toppings. I had a piece of focaccia earlier with the lil plate of charcuterie at the start of the event that was dreamy. It was then I realized it wass gonna be a great nite. Spicy Lumache. Pasta looked simple, sprinkled cheese, a ll basil. But the sauce?! not only had a perfectly leveled kick, (calabrian chili) but was Kick-Ass! The lil scoopy shape of that pasta gave great mouthfuls of dynamite sauce. I wanted a spoon and a sofa seat. I looked around for a chef to hug. Now granted, some of this stuff may not be on the menu when you go, this was a special event. But that sauce? that crust? that attention to flavor?! This is handily the best pizza place in the Lincoln Park / Mcginley square region - a title previously held by 'no award' due to lack of acceptable nominees. Pies are thin crust style, though I do see they have a square pie which will have to be tried on a future order. Standouts are the mushroom thyme white pie, and their meatballs which often go overlooked and underappreciated as a topping. This location appears to have turned over to new management, so if you were previously having issues with both with the food and their bizarre hours and random closures that is now resolved. The new owner also seems to do a lot of baked goods and desserts which I have yet to sample, but hopefully that takes hold as the closest bakery I'm aware of is at least another twenty minute walk away and has issues of its own. read more

This is by far my favorite place for pizza in JC. The shop itself has a great vibe. First time going in to dine after the pool this summer they were playing Martin on the TV and a great mix of Sade, Prince, classic hip hop and deep grooves/rare soul in the background. I just moved to Mcginley Square from Manhattan and i just ordered my 1st pizza from this restaurant to pick up. When i walked in the place owner was making the pizza and she didnt see me at first. She was using gloves and everywhere were pretty clean. I care hygiene as much as the taste of pizza so they already passed that! Pizza was very really good and dough was really crusty. i loved it! This place is under new ownership as of Fall 2023. The pizza is great! Best quality in the neighborhood. So glad to have them in West Side/Lincoln Park area. Horrible customer service! Asked for a X-Large pie crispy it came out soggy. Pizza was all over the place and yes I know it's the drivers fault. But honestly I've never had a problem ordering before but you guys lost a customer. The young lady on the phone has poor customer service skills and instead of saying what you want me to do about it how about you learn how to use customer service skills. I pretty much agree with some other people that this is just the standard pizza. If you have like $8 and you want a few slices of pizza to tide you over because you're hungry, and there isn't a lot of choice regarding food options on the block, it will definitely make due. However, the cheese didn't seem to have much taste and the sauce wasn't flavored well, so the residual taste in my mouth that was always left over was just from the doughy bread. read more
