The audiological evaluation was the most thorough I have ever had, and they even measured my tinnitus level -- something no one had done for me before. They recommended a tinnitus masking device, and it has worked wonderfully. It masks the ringing to the point where I can barely notice it, and it has helped me feel much more relaxed and reduced my anxiety. Beyond their expertise, they were incredibly kind, patient, and took the time to listen to all my questions and concerns. My baby was transferred to this hospital's NICU shortly after I gave birth. The hospital I gave…read morebirth at didn't discharge me so we were at separate hospitals. The doctor's at Long Beach Memorial called me constantly to make decisions for my baby even though her father was at her bedside and one of male doctors called me an "absent parent" over the phone. Shortly after, I discharged myself from my hospital, against my hospitals advice, and went to the NICU to make informed decisions about my daughter's health. We were in the NICU for about 3 months and I asked each doctor on the Gastroenterology team questions so I could make informed decisions. There were two Dr. Chou's on the G.I. team, the older Dr. Chou would talk over the resident I was questioning for more information. Later I found out that he was the doctor that advocated for an oral steroid to improve my daughter's breathing when I requested for her to be intubated. My daughter was there for three days, but after receiving the oral steroid he suggested my daughter started coughing up blood and had to be intubated for over a month. I had the unfortunate experience of having Dr. Sonia K. Michail on my daughter's G.I. Team. She has a temper and takes that anger out on her patients. I didn't want to go along with one of her suggestions and she forcefully injected fluid into my daughter's G.I. tube causing my baby to gag. I also refused a drug she suggested that caused my daughter to vomit shortly after each dose called omeprazole (that I later found out she was on the clinical research team for) and she tried to weaponize the DCFS system against me. Before we were able to receive our daughter's discharge papers, we had to get a primary care doctor. We would schedule appointments and notify the staff at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, but the external offices would keep canceling our appointments. We were blacklisted from one office, but when I called to ask why I was transferred to the office manager who said, "talk to the doctors at Long Beach Memorial Hospital." I was able to find an office that would accept my daughter and the appointment didn't get canceled because the doctors had left for the day. When we received our discharge papers that night, no one wanted to sign off on the document. Long Beach Memorial has great staff, but there are a few bad apples in the bunch. If you or a family member receives services from this hospital please take notes, timestamp them, and have a witness. Use their MyChart feature to see what drugs they're administering and who approved it in real time (screenshot the names as soon a they're available because they can change this information)! You can ask for specific nurses to be on your primary care team just so you can see a familiar face and have someone that's familiar with you/ your loved one's circumstance. Check your billing statements to make sure your insurance is being charged for services they actually provided. I hope this helps.

Even after explaining the side effects I am experiencing due to the delay, I still have not received the support I need. When I spoke with Jeanette, she kept changing the reasons why my medication hadn't been refilled or why I hadn't received a call back from the doctor. At one point, she told me my insurance was not valid--without even having my file pulled up. I contacted my insurance company myself, and they confirmed there are no issues. Despite this, the office failed to set up my appointment the four different times I reached out. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with a manager, Jeanette transferred me back to the main line instead of connecting me with anyone who could actually help. This level of negligence is unacceptable, especially in healthcare where people's lives and well-being are at stake. Since they do not want to help me , I will be taking the next step of reporting this office. Patients deserve staff who take their health seriously, follow through, and provide accurate information.

My biggest concern was the lack of communication when I was experiencing a serious and frightening issue. I began having hallucinations and reached out by both phone and email because I was scared and needed guidance. I did not receive a response. I also experienced repeated problems with prescriptions. There were times when prescriptions were not sent to the pharmacy or approvals were not completed, and I had to follow up myself. When you are already struggling with your mental health, having to repeatedly worry about getting your medication adds even more stress. I was also trying to pursue TMS treatment and needed help finding a provider whose schedule would work with my job. I did not feel that I received the support I needed in navigating that process. I understand that medical providers are busy and that mistakes can happen. However, after multiple communication and prescription issues--and particularly receiving no response when I reported hallucinations--I no longer felt comfortable relying on this practice for my psychiatric care. I have since found another psychiatrist. I am sharing my experience because I believe communication, responsiveness, and reliable medication management are extremely important when someone is seeking mental health treatment. I sincerely hope these areas improve for future patients.
