First time coming to this clinic this year. Went in for throat and nasal issues I'd been having for years. I was prescribed nasal spray. I was told I'd have an over the phone follow up. They never mentioned a fee if you miss appointment which is odd because I was told a follow up to see if the spray was working or not which doesn't seem like I was taking space for anyone else walking in. No voicemail was left. I am a medi-cal patient. $50 is a lot for me to pay all for a "missed appointment" that I was not informed about. I was told to send a letter stating what I am stating here and got no response. Just a recurring reminder in the mail. Will not recommend this place. read more

Terrible service...waited months for a new patient appointment for me and my husband only to have Dr Yoshpe cancel it, by email, 3 weeks prior to the appt date. I called and spoke to friendly person who promised to see if he could find an opening to reschedule my appt. Waited a few days and when I didn't hear back from him, I called the office and got a very unfriendly person who made it clear that she wasn't going to help me (seriously couldn't care less). My son was Dr Yoshpe's patient as a child. She was the best Dr. So patient and explained why he had discomfort before he came to her. The first visit was miraculous for him. She cleared/cleaned out his ears. She made him feel comfortable through his appointments and gave him ear tubes which stopped the numerous ear infections he experienced before coming to her. Dr. Yoshpe herself is a great woman. The audiologist who used to work here is no longer working here. And her replacement is just terrible! I've now had two separate instances where the doctor has been VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I drove an hour to an appointment, when I noticed I was going to be late I called (4 min late) no response, left a voicemail. Showed up 10 min late, waited 5 min to be told because of how late I was she would not help me! So thankful this office has another audiologist and not just the one at the Long Beach location.Willing to drive further to HB/ Los Al to not deal with her ever again. read more

There's a huge breakdown in their front office and how they handle business. I'm appalled by what I go through every time I deal with this office. The calls are not answered, if they are you wait for 20mins for someone to answer a 5 seconds question. Sometimes they hang up on you after the prolonged wait. There's zero professionalism when you actually get someone on the line. The doctors come so highly recommended but it makes you wonder why the office is so poorly managed. I don't give 5 stars easily, but in this case I wish I could give 6. We went to Dr. Yoshpe in Los Alamitos for a second opinion regarding ear tubes for my infant son. The visit between Dr. Yoshpe and another well-known OC pediatric ENT was night and day! First of all, have you ever had a specialist MD hold your baby, not because it was part of the exam, but simply because she likes children? ME NEITHER. Seriously, it happened. I couldn't believe it. Dr. Yoshpe was thorough and knowledgeable. She has an amazing bedside manner. When we went to another pediatric ENT for an ear cleaning, he didn't tell us that the procedure would be traumatic for the baby (as in, baby crying so much the paper sheet on the examining table is soaked). Dr. Yoshpe let me know up front (although I already knew by this point) that ear cleaning seriously upsets babies (she was the one who used the word "traumatic"). I appreciated the warning and even more so, I appreciated that she offered an alternative to it (ear drops and a follow up visit). In fact, she laid out three options and explained them, all of which were reasonable. We were only given one option at the other ENT (which was get ear tubes in 1-2 weeks). Even if Dr. Yoshpe had told me my son needed the tubes right away, I would have still given her the same rating. What made the difference was her attitude, her knowledge and her well-run office. I saw that some people had to wait a long time - this was not my experience. I arrived on time and was seen promptly (although at the other ENT I did wait 2 hours, so maybe the nature of these appts cause them to run late?). I was in and out of the office within an hour, despite being a new patient, filling out forms, asking many questions and rescheduling a follow up afterwards. Lastly, Dr. Yoshpe's credentials are fantastic. She's part of the craniofacial/cleft team at Miller Childrens Hospital in LB (I believe she heads one of the departments there) and she is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (there are lots of great ENTs, but not all of them are members of AAP). read more

She put tubes in and out of my daughter's ears who is now 28, BUT, most recently removed my husband's tonsils, ads and also gave him a septoplasty!! While Dr. Yoshpe is wonderful, be aware that this office is an administrative mess. They just referred me to a collections agency for a $10 co-pay I have already paid two times. Have to think there are other equally great ENTs out there that wouldn't make you go through these headaches. read more

For the Long Beach and Los Alamitos offices: I was referred to Dr Yoshpe by a friend (who is a nurse) and was told the following: "You will wait a long time regardless of your appointment time, and you will hate the front office staff, but you will have a knowledgeable and respected doctor who knows what she's doing." And you know what? My nurse-friend was right. Every time that I have gone to an appointment I have waited 45 minutes up to 90 minutes to be seen. Appointment times are like weather forecasts at this office. They are predicted, they are put in writing, and then you just kind of wait and see what happens. As far as the front office staff, all I'm going to say is, get used to this kind of medical office "professionalism", because the "career college" insta-graduate seems to be the new standard. HOWEVER, I have nothing but good things to say about the doctors themselves. Dr. Yoshpe knows her shit. She may not come across as the most personable person, but just accept her gruffness and move on. She's a good doctor, is known in the field and is respected in the hospital. With Dr. Yoshpe, you're in good hands. Dr. Yu is also very good. She is more personable -- dare I call her friendly and warm -- and also seems to know her stuff. The biggest hurtles you have to get over are waiting to be seen and dealing with the front office staff. If you can do that, you're fine. I'm giving two stars due to the wait time to be seen and the crappy front office people who give you attitude for asking them a question. If I was basing this rating on the doctors themselves, it would be four stars. read more

We were referred here by our pediatrician during our 2 day old appointment due to a severe tongue. I called around noon for an appointment and was told they were available either at 3:45pm today or not available for another week. I took the today as it's best to get the snipping done as early as possible. Upon arrival, you notice the parking lot is very small and it was busy so be cautious about parking available and size of your vehicle. We arrived at 3:30 for our 3:45 appointment, and had the first time paperwork filled out before appointment time but wasn't called back until a little after 4 to be placed in a room until doctor arrived at 4:10. She evaluated and said nurse would come in with consent paperwork. Procedure was done at at 4:20 and 4:22 they said they would be back in five to check bleeding which turned into 11 minutes. The only reason for the high score is the doctor and front staff was very nice. However, the wait time and the outdated building really left a sour taste. read more

Came here because I've had occasional vertigo, my doctor recommended I see a specialist, and my insurance sent me here. I've been here 3 times. First time was the only time I saw Dr. Yoshpe, she was thorough and had a great bedside manner. Although I came here for vertigo she noticed that my allergies were bad and recommended a prescription which has been nothing short of life changing (it's amazing how much I couldn't breathe before!). My next 2 visits were nowhere near as good. For one appointment I waited over an hour only to have them (not Dr. Yoshpe) tell me 1) come back when im dizzy and 2) incorrect information about my dizziness. If I needed to be dizzy why did they make me an appointment? I sent them an email explaining that I was very upset and included links to three scientific studies which proved what they said was wrong. Never got a reply. Emailed them again a week later. No reply. My last visit was a drop-in since I woke up with vertigo. Despite the fact that it was VERY obvious that I was really dizzy and very uncomfortable there was no hustle on their part. They made no effort to try and "squeeze me in" and even though I showed up at 8 I was not seen until 1130. They were supposed to send in an rx at 130. Then at 230. Then at 430. Then at 5 (whoops now they're closed!) They did finally send in that rx. To the wrong pharmacy. After the pharmacy had closed. No worries guys, feeling like you've played dizzy bat for 9 hours straight is fun. Don't rush yourselves. Tl;dr - Dr. Yoshpe seemed great but everyone else there seems to not give a crap. I have been suffering from vertigo since February. I finally get a referral in late March to see Dr. Yoshpe. When I called to make an appointment, the earliest to get in was May 1st. (And only for a hearing test, not even to test for vertigo) I have called numerous times to see if there has been any cancelation (which there has been none). I get a call yesterday April 28th that the hearing machine is broken so they have to reschedule me. The earliest is June 1st. I told them I have had this appointment for over a month. They said there is nothing they can do. They won't bump anyone. I ask them if there was another place I can go and they said no. They should make room for those they had to cancel on. Dr. Yoshpe is a tremeondous and caring doctor who takes a consservative approach which we like. Our 5 year old son and 2.5 year old doctor both suffered from constant sinus infections. Some surgeons might have considered them chronic and taken them to surgery but Dr. Yoshpe took all measures to avoid and make sinus surgery the very, very last option before many other options inclduing just letting time take its course. Before she would take them to surgery, she introduced us to a less invasive produre called Balloon Sinuplasty by Johnson and Johnson. Its a balloon that opens up sinuses and is then immediately removed. Even then, she held off, in order to allow a different medication to do its work. Luckily, it did and as of this writing, our children's infections have cleared up. She has a great bedisde manner and takes the time to answer all our questions. After being referred to Dr. Yoshpe by my primary, I too took the leap and dealt with the distant appointment booking, long wait, and unfriendly staff. All because I had hoped Dr. Yoshpe would be above the rest. She was terrible. Unfriendly. Gruff. Sharp tongued. Interrupts constantly. Rude. Fast forward to my lab bill - which was insane and I found out after the fact that the lab wasn't even necessary. As another Yelper stated "highway robber". Reason for meeting with Dr. Yoshpe: ENT services My 6 year old daughter had major breathing problems at night due to swollen tonsils. After trying allergy meds and amoxicillin for her swollen tonsils the final decision was to remove her tonsils all together. BEST DECISION WE COULD HAVE MADE! Description of overall experience: Dr. Yoshpe was extremely helpful and informative throughout the process. I felt my daughter was safe in Dr. Yoshpe's hands. The procedure was very quick and within 45 minutes I was able to be right by my daughter's side as the anesthesia began to wear off. Dr. Yoshpe checked in on my daughter and myself within the hour after the surgery and the very next day I received a phone call as well with her checking in on my daughter's progress. To me that spoke volumes! Doctors/Surgeons who go out of their way to make house calls checking in on their patients are very rare these days. In this day and age professionals tend to be impersonal, so to find a doctor who reaches out to a patient out of pure genuine care and concern is truly meaningful. I appreciate everything Dr. Yoshpe has done for my daughter. Ever since her surgery she no longer struggles to breath at night, she has had less "allergy induced" cold symptoms and she has not snored one bit since her tonsils have been removed. I got sent to this Dr. by my insurance, called to schedule an appointment and the person who answer was very rude and with no type of customer service what so ever! Next she said, " for new patients our next available appointment is July 20th at 9:00am". I'm calling April 6th!!! I said, "that ridiculous". She answer, " you can call your physician and request another specialist". My answer, " I already did, but with my insurance". Nothing to do with the Dr. Because didn't even get to meet her but seriously the receptionist is the face of the clinic and did a horrible job representing Dr. Yoshpe. I felt like like she really knew what she was doing and I had every confidence in her treatment plan. Their clinic is clean and they work hard. After 4 visits, 1 Ct, 2 MRI's, 2 hearing tests and blood work, I was told that I had an unexplained hearing loss and should consider hearing aids (could have gotten that diagnoses from Costco). On my last visit, (after my hearing test) Dr. Yoshpe noticed that one ear had a large amount of wax buildup. So before I knew it, she went in with an instrument and pulled out a large piece of ear wax. I'm no doctor but shouldn't the ear wax have been removed prior to the hearing test? Still that didn't stop them from charging me $60 dollars to pull out the wax. After I complained about the charge for the ear wax removal, I was offered a 10% ($6) discount on the charge. Apparently they must need the money more than I. So I figure it will be more beneficial in the long run, to pay the fee and find a more reasonable ENT. read more

It was my first time at the office. Went in for vertigo and was seen by the Kristie the PA. She was very informative and her personality made me feel comfortable. Went in a few days later for a complete hearing test and spoke to me after about my results, in addition to educating me on vertigo. I had a great experience on both visits. read more

As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Yoshpe saved my son's life. She is a fantastic doctor and an amazing women! Sometimes you will wait and wait and wait, but isn't the well being of your child worth it? Once we waited over three hours to see her, but that's OK because sometimes she has to drop everything for an emergency (such as the case with my son). We have been with her for the past seven years through many surgeries and illnesses and she has always been there for us. I was referred to SCENT by my co-worker who said his son went here. Admittedly, my co-worker is not really what I'd consider an astute individual, so I suppose this was partially my fault for even listening to him. At any rate, I needed to see an ENT for sinus issues and he recommended SCENT, so I scheduled an appointment. I scheduled an appointment with one of the doctor's from the practice (not Nina) at the Los Alamitos location. First off the Los Alamitos location is a dirty old building that charges for parking. The inside just looked very very old. If they try and schedule you at the Los Alamitos location, prepare to either get an early appointment or you will pay for parking on the surface lot next to the old building. Try and park on the street. I just shook my head watching the line of people try and pay for parking as I walked in. Then like everyone else, the doctor was running late, so my appointment did not even start until 45 min past my scheduled time. The consultation, went normal, we discussed issues going on. Overall pretty standard. Quite frankly, I did not feel like the doctor really offered any unique expertise despite their resume/bio on the site. I went to this practice on "allegedly" good expertise...which I didn't get the impression of. In the end, I was out my co-pay and wasted my time which is what I get for listening to my mediocre co-worker's advice. I got my surgery here in Orange County instead by a much better regarded ENT doctor that I felt good about. There's a lot of expert ENT doctors here in SoCal. Dr.Yoshpe was highly recommended to us by a good friend and her reviews online were very good. However, we had several issues that I believe were the fault of her staff. First of all, when I made the appointment for my husband, I made it with the doctor only to find out when we were leaving the office that the person we saw was the PA not the doctor! The receptionist just poo poohed our concern. Then when we saw the doctor she was very apologetic. After examining my husband, she prescribed a diuretic for liquid in this ears and a!MRI. When we went to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription the pharmacist told us the medication was for high blood pressure with a diuretic. My husband does not have high blood pressure, therefore I asked the pharmacist if it was possible to get a diuretic without blood pressure medication. She said yes and she also said that it was weird that the doctor prescribed this for him. Anyway, I looked up the medication and it stated it shouldn't be taken if allergic to Sulfa drugs. The antibiotic the PA prescribed was in the Salfa family. He broke out in a bad rash after 8 days on the antibiotic! When talking to Dr. Yoshpe about my concern, she said not to take it. She then said to be sure to get the blood test before the MRI. First time anyone mentioned a blood test! We rushed to get it done before the scheduled MRI. We waited a week to get the results. She told us she wanted to put him on another antibiotic and wanted to know what he had taken already. She said she'd call our other doctor and asked me to be patient. I decided to call myself and got the info. in 5 minutes. I gave the information about the antibiotics to Dr. Yoshpe's office. After over a week we haven't heard back from her! We've been extremely patient! BUT WE ARE DO DONE WITH DR. YOSHPE AND HER OFFICE STAFF! Worst experience ever! (Sorry this is so long!) read more

This is not against Dr Kathy Yu-Sken. I had been going to her for a couple years because of some problems that I was having in my mouth. I April I called about making an appoitment. I was having pain and an infection in my mouth. I was told that I was unable to get an appoitment until June. I said that I was having pain and had an infection. So the operator asked if I would like to make an appoitment for June. I told the person that was not acceptable. I guess that they do not care about the patient. read more

I walked into S.C.E.N.T. to see the doctor and I was pleasantly surprised about how friendly the front desk staff was. After signing in, I think I waited 15 minutes (which was fine because I was 10 minutes early for my appointment). They walked me to my room and I was impressed with how large and how clean the office was. I waited in my room for about 5 minutes then Dr. Yoshpe walked in with the biggest smile and all my nerves about being at a doctors office were laid to rest. She was so personable and kind. She spent a fair amount of time talking with me about my aches and pains as well as my family and my hobbies. So sweet. I felt so comfortable. Once I was done with my appointment, I took the samples that Dr. Yoshpe gave to me and went up front to check out. The girls up front were able to make my next appointment for me very quickly and I was out the door. The whole time spent there was about 30 minutes, an overall wonderful experience. I came back for my follow up and saw Dr. Willner that time. My last experience was repeated. what another wonderful doctor they have over there. He was just as nice and approachable as Dr. Yoshpe. I don't care how good this doctor's s reputation is - NEVER again. I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes and then they told me that they had a room available, however, it would be another 30 minutes at least. This is the third time!! I think it is very unprofessional to overbook your appointments to this degree. The only reason I returned today was that the fact that she had all my medical records. I don't mind waiting up to 50 minutes - you never know what emergencies might come up. I have talked to various people (including the frustrated patients in the waiting room) and this is definitely the norm with her!! Many of the waiting patients went to the desk and were told "sorry, we'll be with you as soon as we can". There was no explanation or announcement that they were running up to 2 hours late. Avoid this doctor at all cost! I spent 2.5 hours in their offices for a total of maybe 5 mins with a nurse and 5 mins with the doctor. Her bill was close to $1000 for this visit! We have been bringing our 3 children to Dr. Yoshpe for the last 5 years. She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, conservative in her treatment approach, and wonderful with children. I would highly recommend Dr. Yoshpe to any parent looking for high quality medical care for their child.
